Chapter 35: Showdown!

Savant’s body burned with a sizzling rage as he moved slowly towards the forest, his dark tank top was completely melted off his body by the time he approached the trees.

He looked noticeably different, sinisterly so. The left side off his body had turned into a mess of volcanic-like molten lava and his eyes glowed a deep crimson. Jacob leaned on the tree behind him and watched as the man transformed into what could only be classified as a human corrupted with hell-fire.

Savant growled with rage unlike anything the boy had ever seen or heard, "You do not belong here. You do not belong here." The man kept repeating over and over, sending Jacob into confusion as to what he meant.

"What do you mean I don’t belong here?" Jacob yelled, flexing a cramped wrist, then straightening his hands out.

"I knew it, I frickin’ knew it. The day you were born. I felt your goddamned presence, a child with all abilities..." Savant spat onto the floor, "It goes against everything that is normal in this world. It defies the notion of our existence. YOU must be eliminated."

Jacob, upon realizing that Savant wasn’t the one speaking, lowered his gaze and steadied his breathing, "I never asked to be reincarnated, I never asked for another life, I was granted one, by someone who thought I was worthy of it. You will not take that away from me."

’Nethermancer?’ Jacob thought as he slowly observed the stat inspection screen.

<Yes host! Opponent is a forbidden caster empowered by abyssal forces.

’How unpleasant,’ Jacob thought, a frown appearing on his face as he braced himself.

"Die!!" Corrupted Savant yelled and immediately opened its mouth, spewing a gigantic blast of red fire that instantly melted the trees that stood in its way, thereby causing a devastatingly huge blow to the forest that stood between them.

<Opponent has used skill: Blazing Burn>

Jacob watched as the blast zoomed towards him, he pulled Excalibur out of Kalgin immediately and blocked it, the blade split the fire in half and sent it jolting past him on both sides.

He pushed forward slowly as the fire burned past him. His word slowly began to turn red from the effect of the fire, from the corner of his eye, he could spot the translucent blue screen again. This time with a notification that he had never seen before.

<Hidden Quest:

Defeat and Kill the corrupted human.

Reward: Teleportation skill

Penalty for failure would be decided by The Regulator>

Jacob chuckled "What the hell, this old ass entity is still playing games with me." He shook his head and stood his ground, the majority of the forest behind him was ablaze now.

Corrupted Savant began muttering some words in the same language that Jaran had used, a language that Jacob knew all too well now that he had their memories. Before long, a handful of mid-tier demonic beasts emerged from the ground.

One Horned Demon Ape, two Shadow Panthers and one Fire Python. These beasts were around mid to low tier after his appraisal, but they all possessed some kind of sinister aura.

The Horned Ape stood well over 7 feet tall on its hind legs, its heavily muscled torso covered in matted, crimson-streaked fur. The Shadow Panthers gave a low growl, their red eyes resembled laser beams as they stayed locked onto Jacob. The Fire Python had scales resembling glowing embers, its presence calm but very dangerous.

Within a split second all these creeatures launched themselves towards Jacob, roaring loudly. The Ape went for his top half, while the Panthers focused on his lower half.

Just as these creatures were about to connect their attacks.

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

In three very quick slices, Jacob had beheaded the three monsters, their heads dropped onto the floor and rolled until they tuned into dust.

Corrupted Savant maintained his distance, moving his fingers in a way that Jacob found strange. The python stared at Jacob and slithered from side to side, its attack sequence still unpredictable.

It coiled itself into a spring-like shape and lunged at Jacob, but just as he was about to dodge and slice the beast in half...

TUG! TUG!

He couldn’t move, he was stuck in place. He remembered the movement that Corrupted Savant had been doing with his hands and he suddenly noticed tiny threads that filled the whole forest, these strings had tightly wound themselves around his body and suspended him in place.

<Opponent has used skill: Thread Manipulation>

Just then the python opened its mouth and spat a ball of fire onto Jacob’s body, covering him in its venomous flames from head to toe.

"Insolent child! I told you, none of your useless party tricks will have any effect here... this is the end of your journey." Corrupted Savant spoke, a smirk tugged at his lips.

"There is something you all fail to learn about me...!" Jacob spoke from within the fire, warranting a look of half confusion from Savant. "I adapt really quickly."

<Host is now impervious to all future attacks containing the fire element>

A pale, uninjured hand emerged from the fire and grabbed the python’s neck. Another hand stretched forth and ripped the beast in two, the beast immediately vanished into thin air.

The flame slowly began to die, his top slightly burnt as he gazed at corrupted Savant, his head slightly lowered, a serious expression on his face.

Most of his body was still entrapped in the threads, he released a pulse of blue lightning into the atmosphere, causing the threads to illuminate in a radiant blue color.

"Found them," he muttered under his breath.

He then opened his palms and created a series of compressed wind currents all over his body, ultimately freeing himself from the threads. He hovered above ground now, his gaze still locked on corrupted Savant, who had begun to twitch and writhe in pain.

"G...gahh! I’m not done with you yet!"
