Chapter 2173: Chapter 2076: Apparitions
However, what the entire crowd couldn’t foresee was that this time, after hearing Holman’s words, the big BOSS surprisingly didn’t get angry. He lifted his head to glance at Holman, nodded with approval, and gave a slight "mm" sound.
After that, he took out his phone and made a call to someone, though it was unclear who.
About an hour later, the sound of helicopter engines was heard outside the base, followed by a burst of static on Holman’s walkie-talkie:
"Captain, a few police officers are here outside, saying they’re looking for our boss!"
Holman was stunned. Tranleva, who had already heard, waved his hand directly, saying, "I called them, let them in."
Soon, five or six fully armed police officers hurried over.
Leading the group was a police officer who was none other than the Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. After receiving the news, the Deputy Director rushed over with his team. Upon seeing Tranleva, he approached with a respectful tremble:
"Mr. Tranleva, I didn’t listen carefully on the phone earlier, what exactly happened?"
Tranleva glanced at the Deputy Director, turned around, and pointed to the warehouse behind him, saying, "Go in and see for yourself. I don’t know who is so bold as to target me. I’m at a loss here, see if you can find a way to catch this gang of thieves."
The Deputy Director nodded quickly in acknowledgment:
"Rest assured, sir. After receiving your call, I came over with our people. These are the finest agents from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, highly experienced in tracking criminals, especially adept at following the slightest clues. With them here, even the sharpest international thieves won’t escape their eyes!"
With that, the Deputy Director motioned to the few police officers behind him, who immediately understood and spread out, starting to investigate the entire warehouse with their tools.
"Mr. Tranleva, could you and your team please leave the scene? There are too many people here, which could compromise the evidence, making it difficult for us to collect samples."
A youthful policewoman stepped forward, speaking politely to Tranleva.
Tranleva looked at the gaping hole in the wall, confirmed the safe wouldn’t grow back, and despite his anger and frustration, had no choice but to nod and leave the warehouse.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director and several detectives began a thorough investigation inside the warehouse, leaving no trace unchecked. Yet, the more they investigated, the more puzzled the detectives became.
The value of the stolen goods was not their primary concern, and en route, the Deputy Director had warned them not to ask unnecessary questions, even if irregularities were found, not to dig too deeply.
Thus, during the investigation, upon discovering the drugs and research instruments in the warehouse, none of the detectives dared to ask questions. Their primary focus was on how the theft of these various items from the warehouse occurred.
Based on the traces they investigated and the reports from Tranleva on lost items, the items stolen from this warehouse amounted to astronomical figures, and these items varied in size, some large, some small.
However, what astonished them was that the only possible entry point for thieves to access the warehouse’s interior appeared to be at the back under a rack—a hole cut with a laser.
This hole was only human-sized, barely allowing an adult to pass through.
The hole led to the base’s sewage system, where the pipes were just large enough for an adult to crawl through slowly.
This posed a problem: How did these thieves manage to stealthily transport those various large and small items out of the warehouse?
Ignoring other items, just the safe emphasized by Mr. Tranleva, dug out from the wall by the thieves, was a sizable piece.
The detectives measured it with a ruler, and judging by the dimensions of the wall cavity that now revealed the large hole, the safe was at least one meter square. Such a large item couldn’t possibly fit through the laser-cut entry point, let alone be carried out via the sewage pipes.
To confirm their measurements, a detective even sought confirmation from Tranleva, who called the person who had custom-made the safe for him, obtaining precise dimensions. These data clearly indicated that transporting a safe through the sewage pipe was an utterly impossible task.
One detective speculated that since the thieves used a laser cutter to create an entry point at the warehouse’s base, they might have similarly cut the safe into pieces to carry it away.
Even though this explanation seemed far-fetched, and nobody could explain why the thieves, after cutting open the safe and taking the valuables, would also remove the damaged safe’s broken pieces, it couldn’t entirely be ruled out. Perhaps the thieves had peculiar interests or another purpose for needing the safe’s fragments.
But setting aside the safe, this warehouse also housed several luxury cars. When the detectives investigated them, they discovered that the valuable components inside these cars, including several super-power systems, were completely emptied by the thieves, leaving the cars as mere shells, aesthetically pleasing but entirely useless!
At this point, the detectives were flabbergasted.
With the safe, they could explain it away with a laser cutter, but the engines of those luxury cars—they couldn’t seriously suggest cutting them into pieces with a cutter for removal, could they? That’s ludicrous; if the engines were cut into many pieces, could they still be functional?
The group of detectives looked at each other in dismay, with no one able to explain what exactly was going on.
Particularly after a policeman personally experienced the sewage pipes and returned with news that only two worthless footprints were found inside—these thieves had an extremely high anti-detection awareness, leaving no fingerprints or footprints inside the warehouse or even at the sewer exit.
This plunged the entire investigation into a deadlock, yet the Deputy Director believed that since the thieves stole so many items, they must have used a vehicle, and it had to be a large one. Thus, efforts were quickly made to investigate any suspicious vehicles exiting the Sierra Madre Mountains.
However, after several hours of investigation, this lead yielded absolutely nothing. The thieves appeared like phantoms, coming suddenly, leaving silently, with not a trace to follow.
