Chapter 2174: Chapter 2077: An Insider?
The people at the Criminal Investigation Bureau didn’t come up empty-handed either. At the very least, after analyzing all the video footage from the main control room frame by frame, they discovered that something was off with the footage shortly after midnight.
"Rewind it, quickly rewind it, Janice, here! Did you notice anything strange?" a criminal investigation officer urgently shouted.
Janice stared intently at the screen again and then hesitated:
"This is spliced. This segment of video should have been edited from another time period and spliced here, so just now, the video flickered, and there’s an obvious difference in color between the two frames. The previous frame is slightly brighter, and the next frame is a bit darker. Although the difference isn’t very obvious, you can see the issue immediately when you compare them."
That criminal investigator clapped his hands suddenly, enlightened by Janice’s reminder: "That’s right, someone tampered with this video!"
Upon hearing this, Jess and Bregg, who were initially responsible for the monitoring room, immediately turned pale. Both of them looked frantically and tensely towards Tranleva:
"It wasn’t... it wasn’t me who did this, I didn’t touch the video footage!"
The two monitoring room staff members, explaining and gesturing nervously, turned pale as ashes, knowing what a miserable fate would await them if they were to be blamed for this crime.
Tranleva glanced at the two expressionlessly, as if looking at ants, and casually waved his hand to the side, where immediately someone pulled out a gun and aimed it at the two staff members.
"Speak up, who sent you, which of you is the spy, properly explain this, and I can give you a quick end, otherwise..."
Tranleva had calmed down by this moment, having always considered his base impenetrable, never thinking that this time someone could slip through such an opening. Tranleva highly suspected that among the people he employed, there were informants for those thieves, otherwise how could those thieves have entered the base so smoothly and could pilfer so many things without any obstruction?
Thinking about the safe that had been taken, Tranleva felt his heart bleeding. With the mentality of rather killing a thousand wrongly than letting one escape, he had harbored murderous intentions in his mind—to arrest all those who were on duty that night in the base and press them for a confession.
However, in front of so many criminal investigation officers, he still restrained himself, not daring to act rashly.
Although he had restrained himself, upon seeing someone daring to pull out a gun in front of the police, the faces of those few criminal investigators also didn’t look very good. Only the Deputy Director looked indifferent, with a complete attitude of "none of my business."
At this moment, the beautiful and alluring female detective Janice, who was sitting in front of the monitoring room computer manipulating the video, suddenly spoke, with a trace of displeasure flashing in her eyes:
"Mr. Tranleva, I think you shouldn’t rush to conclusions. As for this matter, I believe it’s unlikely that the problem originated from your side and seems unrelated to the two monitoring room staff members."
Tranleva was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, looking instinctively towards the female detective: "What evidence do you have?"
Janice pointed to the display in front of her: "I’ve reviewed it, your base’s server was hacked last night, this hacker is very professional, and after the intrusion, all traces were cleared, so it’s impossible to backtrack this hacker. But through the server’s system logs, you can see modification marks, indicating that indeed someone was here last night."
"And this person was the one who cut and spliced the video inside the monitoring room last night. He is also one of the accomplices of those thieves."
"If these two monitoring room staff were indeed in cahoots with the thieves, then the thieves wouldn’t need to go to all this trouble to create a spliced video; they could have just walked in grandly, and at that time, the staff could easily cover up the video footage with a little manipulation. So why leave such a significant loophole?"
At this point, Janice smiled and looked up at Tranleva: "People say Mr. Tranleva is bold and detailed; it seems you aren’t someone who kills the innocent indiscriminately, right? You wouldn’t vent your anger on unrelated people just because of a theft incident, would you?"
Tranleva was somewhat surprised, but then he laughed. He didn’t expect that among these detectives, there was such a bold woman, but he had to admit that the reasons this woman analyzed indeed made some sense.
He nodded and said: "What you say is indeed reasonable. These two monitoring staff members shouldn’t have much to do with those thieves. However, the theft at my warehouse was entirely due to their negligence. If they hadn’t been derelict in their duties, failed to discover the video manipulation, and reported the issue in time, my warehouse might still be intact. Therefore, although they can escape the death penalty, they cannot escape punishment. If I don’t teach them a lesson, they might think I’m too soft-hearted to take seriously!"
With that, Tranleva gave a signal with his eyes to the two men beside him. The next second, there were two "bang bang" gunshots. Each of the two staff members let out a scream, one clutching his wounded right arm, the other his wounded thigh, both collapsing on the ground as blood gushed out.
"Noisy!" Regarding the plight of the two staff members, Tranleva showed no sympathy, only saying blandly.
Seeing that Tranleva was annoyed by the cries of the two staff members, the security team immediately came forward and dragged them away as if dragging two rags.
From start to finish, no one raised any objections, only those few criminal investigators showed faces of unease. The female detective named Janice had a few grievances in her eyes, but considering the fact that she was deep in the den of villains, she dared not confront the ringleader in front of her, so she had to suppress that surge of anger.
Tranleva happened to notice the oddity in Janice’s expression long ago, and not only did he not restrain but instead smirked and asked:
"Miss Janice, do you think my handling was appropriate?"
Janice’s expression froze, and after a while, she pulled the corners of her mouth and said: "Mr. Tranleva is truly a generous person."
The word "generous" was stressed by Janice with deliberate sarcasm, apparently mocking Tranleva as too petty.
Tranleva seemed not to understand at all, laughing heartily, and not only did he not get angry but found Janice’s attitude very refreshing.
