Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Mom, This Isn’t the Bus to Kindergarten

When the four of them took the elevator up to Shangyan, they found that some of their classmates were already waiting at the entrance.

Wu Yun asked curiously, "What’s up? How come none of you are going in? Are you waiting for someone?"

Someone laughed and joked, "You’re the man of the hour. How could we dare go in before you’ve arrived?"

"Exactly! We were all waiting for the Witch Commander to lead us in."

...

The receptionist had noticed the students gathering at the entrance for a while now. She recalled her manager’s instructions from earlier: a party of forty was coming for dinner tonight, and the staff was not to treat them poorly.

The receptionist had already approached to ask, but the students all said they were still waiting for people.

Seeing the man of the hour arrive, the receptionist smiled and stepped forward. "Excuse me, are you Mr. Wu Yun?"

Wu Yun nodded calmly, then gestured to his classmates. "Please take us to our reserved tables."

With so many people, the sound quickly became a clamor, even if each person was speaking softly.

The hall, which had been playing soft music, instantly grew boisterous. Some early-arriving customers frowned at the noisy scene, but once they saw it was a group of young people who looked like students, they didn’t pay it much more mind.

The tables Wu Yun had booked were in the main hall, but the entire large section was reserved for them. This way, their noise wouldn’t be too likely to affect the dining experience of other patrons.

"Everyone, this is a buffet, so don’t be shy! Eat to your heart’s content! Those of you who are here can go ahead and tell the server what kind of broth you want for your personal hot pot. We’ll all dig in together once everyone arrives!"

Wu Yun then turned to Liu Yongheng. "Yongheng, help me get our classmates settled. I’m going to see why our esteemed class monitor isn’t here yet."

Just as he reached the entrance, Wu Yun bumped into Zhao Yuqing and three others, who were being led by a server.

"Class Monitor, the deal was you organize, I pay! Why are you so late? Trying to make a grand entrance just in time to eat?" Wu Yun complained jokingly. "I’m already paying, and now I have to do all the work, too!"

"Witch Commander! Eldest Young Master Wu! We rushed over here from school as soon as we were ready! Who asked you to book a place so far away? We had to come all the way from the suburbs and cross half of Rongcheng to get here. You think it’s easy for us car-less folk to get a free meal out of you?!" Zhao Yuqing cried in mock complaint.

"If I’d just booked that chicken pot place outside campus, you probably would’ve been too lazy to even show up. Anyway, enough of this pointless chatter! Class Monitor, don’t you think we need to do something about the seating? If everyone just sits with their own dorm mates, what kind of class gathering is that?"

Wu Yun had noticed on his way over that his classmates had all sat down with their roommates. That’s when he’d gotten the idea to mix everyone up.

"What do you have in mind, Witch Commander?" Zhao Yuqing asked.

Meanwhile, Li Nian and the other two were sizing up Wu Yun, especially Li Nian. In the car on the way over, she had seen an update to the pinned post about Wu Yun on the school forums, as well as some new threads about him.

’This tall, rich, handsome guy got a new car again. I’d love to ride in his passenger seat, but it’s a shame he wouldn’t be interested in someone with average looks like me. Then again, by ’average,’ I mean compared to that sexy upperclassman of his.’

"There are exactly forty of us, so we can have ten tables of four—three girls and one guy each! We’ll ask the front desk for some paper, number slips from 1 to 40, and have the guys draw the numbers that are multiples of four: 4, 8, 12, and so on. The girls will draw from the remaining numbers." Wu Yun said smugly, rubbing the light stubble on his chin.

Zhao Yuqing and the other three immediately agreed when they heard the idea.

They had already discovered that college life revolved around one’s dorm. The tight-knit class spirit of high school was nonexistent in college, because without a fixed classroom for everyone, it was hard to build that same sense of unity.

Wu Yun’s proposal created a sense of anticipation, like a lottery—you had no idea who you’d end up sitting with.

With that, Zhao Yuqing turned and walked toward the front desk.

Wu Yun led Li Nian and the other two girls back into the dining hall, explaining his idea to everyone as he went. He received unanimous approval.

Even Pang Guang was on board. He was actually a little excited as he started sizing up the female students around him.

And as he looked, he noticed something out of the ordinary.

Now that they were out of their baggy military training uniforms, many of the girls had changed into what they considered their prettiest outfits. Some had even put on makeup, creating a refreshingly new sight.

Having just graduated from high school and completed a half-month of military training, everyone still had a good sense of punctuality. By around six o’clock, the entire class had arrived on time at Shangyan.

"...And those are the rules. Now, can the guys please line up to draw your numbers!" After explaining the rules, Zhao Yuqing had the ten male students draw first.

Wu Yun was first in line. He picked up a folded slip of paper, opened it, and saw the number "8." He announced loudly, "Number 8!"

Several girls instantly grew excited, whispering to each other that they had heaven-defying luck.

’If Wu Yun heard them,’ he thought, ’he’d probably have to hold himself back from retorting. Just look at you. Do you really have the face of someone with that kind of luck?’

Soon, the guys had all drawn their numbers and, under Zhao Yuqing’s direction, took their assigned seats.

The girls’ turn to draw was much more troublesome and chaotic, mainly due to the noise. There’s a saying that three women are enough to put on a play; with thirty of them, they were about to tear the whole stage down.

Li Nian drew number 7, which put her right across the table from Wu Yun.

The normally cool and composed Li Nian was suddenly nervous and shy sitting in front of Wu Yun. She could only pretend to watch the other students find their seats to hide her anxiety.

Amidst the chaos, everyone finally got settled in their seats.

Only then did a few of the bewildered-looking servers come over with notepads and pens to take down everyone’s broth preferences.

Thankfully, having assigned numbers for everyone made the process a little easier to record.

Zhao Yuqing stood up and clapped her hands. "Everyone, can I have your attention, please! Let’s have a few words from our generous sponsor for the evening, Wu Yun! Let’s give him a round of applause."

Instantly, applause and cheers erupted.

Wu Yun smiled, stood, and nodded, then said calmly, "Hello, everyone! Your impression of me probably isn’t that strong, since I ditched military training after the first day!"

Wu Yun’s first sentence made everyone roar with laughter. One bold girl even shouted, "What do you mean not strong? The night you danced, I even dreamed about you!"

Another girl catcalled, "Jiali, no wonder I saw you washing your underwear the next morning!"

"Hahaha~"

"What does that mean?" some innocent soul asked.

Wu Yun’s mouth twitched. He never expected that when girls started talking this dirty, the guys would be completely outmatched.

Wu Yun cleared his throat and said with a laugh, "Ahem, Miss Liu Jiali and Miss Li Ruixi, please mind your words. There are ten innocent boys here, don’t lead us astray!"

Wu Yun’s words immediately won the support of all the other guys.

"What were they just talking about? I don’t get it."

"What do dreams have to do with washing underwear?"

"Mommy, this isn’t the bus to kindergarten!"

That childish-sounding voice made the whole room burst into laughter, and both Liu Jiali and Li Ruixi’s faces turned bright red with embarrassment.
