Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Classmate, It’s a Pleasure to Meet You
Wu Yun held a finger to his lips for silence. Once the room quieted down, he continued, "Alright, let’s get serious! I’m really glad we’re all in the same class and will be spending the next four years together."
"The other day, when I asked the class monitor to tell you all to form a cheer squad for me... that was just a joke."
Seeing everyone looking at him with curiosity, Wu Yun went on, "My idea was simple: now that military training is over and none of us have much going on, I thought it would be a good time for us all to get a meal together."
"My second reason is that after training, none of us really know each other well, aside from our own roommates. That’s why I had the idea to randomize the seating. And hey, if my little stunt helps a couple or two get together in our class, wouldn’t that be even better? We’ve got to keep the good stuff in the family, right?"
Wu Yun’s humorous words made everyone laugh. For some of the students with nothing to do after military training, his words sparked a bit of romance in their hearts, and they began glancing at the classmates of the opposite sex around them.
Of course, Wu Yun drew the most looks.
"Alright, everyone worked hard during military training! Eat your hearts out today and make sure you get your five hundred per person’s worth! After this, the after-party is at a nearby KTV! I’ve already sent the location to the group chat. It’s voluntary, so no pressure!"
After he finished speaking, Wu Yun waved over the three girls at his table to go grab some food with him.
Since he’d eaten here many times before, Wu Yun just grabbed some prepared dishes and some seafood for the mini hot pot.
When he got back to his seat, the three girls from his table still hadn’t returned.
Wu Yun didn’t feel right starting to chow down by himself, so he simply added the ingredients like shrimp and crab into the pot.
While he waited, Wu Yun observed the girls in his class. Many of them went for the sashimi and seafood first—things they rarely got to eat.
Naturally, there was also the obligatory photo-taking.
’The fact that most people had dressed up for the occasion doesn’t faze me in the slightest.’
’In my past life, I knew exactly what all these female classmates looked like. I even knew how many boyfriends some of them had gone through.’
A fragrant scent wafted past him as a slim, lightly dressed figure squeezed through the gap between tables and sat down opposite him.
She set the several plates she was carrying down on the table.
"Witch Commander, how come you only got this little?" Li Nian asked, a little surprised to see the few dishes in front of Wu Yun. Of course, she was also looking for an excuse to start a conversation.
Wu Yun refrained from the humblebrag about having eaten here several times. Instead, he just teased, "I’m just lazy. I prefer to eat what other people bring me."
With that, he plucked a piece of salmon from one of Li Nian’s plates and popped it into his mouth.
Li Nian wasn’t offended by Wu Yun’s action at all. In fact, she pushed the plate closer to him, secretly pleased. ’Go on, eat up! We can eat together! I’ll go get more when it’s gone. He’s such a young master!’
"I’m really curious, Witch Commander. How did you get so good at singing and dancing? Did your family get you teachers when you were little?"
Wu Yun said smugly, "Haven’t you heard of people called geniuses? Well, you’re looking at one—a man who learns everything fast!"
"Oh, right! I believe you! You’re a genius!" Li Nian said, muffling a laugh. ’I really appreciate his sense of humor.’ Inevitably, she found herself comparing him to her ex-boyfriend. The result was a foregone conclusion: her ex was utterly crushed.
He and Li Nian chatted a bit more about high school, then Wu Yun brought the other two girls at the table into the conversation. Thanks to his constant joking and banter, the initially awkward atmosphere quickly warmed up, and they all started chatting about things that interested them.
Of course, their favorite topic was Wu Yun himself. They were dying to gossip about everything from his personal life to his girlfriend.
"WOAH, WOAH! LINK ARMS! YOU HAVE TO LINK ARMS AND DRINK!" a loud shout came from behind them.
Wu Yun turned to see two tables behind him making a ruckus.
Li Shiming was raising his glass, shouting at the neighboring table.
At that table, Pang Guang was blushing beet red, looking awkwardly at the girl beside him.
From where Wu Yun was sitting, he had a clear view of the girl’s face.
She was a girl named Huang Ying, dressed like a well-behaved student who still had a bit of a high-school air about her.
’Wu Yun remembered. Before his rebirth, back when they first started college, he’d heard Pang Guang mention during some idle dorm chat that he was kind of into Huang Ying.’
’But after that, nothing ever happened between them. It was like their lives were two parallel lines that never crossed.’
’After all, with Pang Guang’s personality, asking him to make the first move was just too much.’
’I never expected that fate would intervene and have them draw each other’s names for the seating arrangement today.’
’Even though I haven’t been on campus lately, I’ve kept up with the conversations in our dorm’s group chat.’
’Everyone wanted to help Pang Guang break out of his shell a bit.’
’I just hadn’t expected Li Shiming to be the first one to take action, but then again, it fit his shameless personality perfectly.’
Pang Guang held up his glass, which was filled with a colorful cocktail. He mumbled, the words he wanted to say getting stuck in his throat, "Huang Ying, I..."
Huang Ying, on the other hand, was perfectly composed. Amidst Li Shiming’s catcalls, she had already figured out what was going on. After all, no one here was an idiot.
Their glasses clinked together, making a crisp sound.
"Pang Guang, it’s nice to meet you!"
Watching this, Li Shiming covered his face and howled in anguish, "Oh my god! Pang Guang, you’re going to make yourself sick bottling everything up like that! Keep this up, and your only option will be to rely on your own handiwork!"
"Huang Ying, it’s a pleasure to meet you!"
At that, Wu Yun picked up his drink, stood up, and said in a loud voice, "Everyone, I’m Wu Yun. It’s great to meet all of you! Cheers!"
"Cheers!"
Pang Guang felt his heart hammering in his chest, as if it were about to leap into his throat.
’He shot a grateful look at Wu Yun’s back. He did have feelings for Huang Ying—she was his type—but they had all just met. If he had acted the way Li Shiming was pushing him to, it would have felt like burning his bridges.’
’He just didn’t have that kind of courage.’
Spurred on by the incident with Pang Guang, some of the bolder guys began to stand up, and soon, calls of "Hey, it’s great to meet you!" were echoing all around the room.
Wu Yun had just sat down when Li Nian raised her yogurt, grinning. "Wu Yun, it’s a pleasure to meet you!"
...
Standing in a small plaza, Wu Yun and his large group of vibrant, energetic students couldn’t help but draw the eyes of passing pedestrians and drivers.
Zhao Yuqing called out, "For those not going to karaoke, please be safe on your way back! Whether you’re heading back to the dorms or home, post in the group chat to let us know you’re safe! And it’s best if you travel in groups!"
After all the students who were leaving had gone, only Zhao Yuqing and her three roommates were left with him.
The rest had already taken the bus to the KTV that had been booked. Wu Yun asked Liu Yongheng to help get things started, saying he and the class monitor would be there soon.
"Let’s go. We’ll drive."
"Witch Commander, doesn’t your car only have room for one more person?" Zhao Yuqing asked, confused.
Aside from Li Nian, who was always on Tieba and knew Wu Yun had bought another car, everyone else’s knowledge was limited to his Big Black Bull.
"Oh! I bought an SUV for Senior Sister Wen Meng. So now we can take turns driving them!"
