Chapter 1319: Chapter 1319: Of Course I’m Willing
When Autumn York called, the four members of the Taylor Family had just finished dinner and hadn’t even gotten up from the dining room table yet. Hearing that Autumn was looking for Evelyn Taylor, Harriet White instinctively glanced at her daughter, who was about to stand up and leave. "She’s at home. What’s wrong? Do you need something from her?"
As she asked, she used her other hand to point at her daughter, signaling for her to wait a bit before leaving.
Seeing her mom point at her, Evelyn knew the person on the other end of the call must be looking for her. As for who it actually was, she had already guessed.
"I want to ask Evelyn something," Autumn stated honestly, explaining the reason for her call.
"Hold on a second." Harriet took the phone away from her ear and handed it over to Evelyn. "Your Aunt Autumn wants to talk to you."
With that, she shoved the phone into her daughter’s hand.
Evelyn had already guessed the call was from Autumn. Seeing the phone her mom stuffed into her hand, she wasn’t surprised at all, just faintly puzzled and a little on edge.
"Hello, Auntie." She pressed the phone to her ear, a little nervous, and after greeting her, quietly waited for the person on the other end to speak.
"Evelyn! You’re at home?" No sooner had she asked than Autumn felt the question was completely redundant, so she quickly added, "Um, I wanted to invite you over to our place as a guest. I don’t know if you’d be willing?"
She’d originally wanted to ask how things were going between Evelyn and Thomas Fisher, but when the words reached her lips, she swallowed them back down, and what finally came out of her mouth turned into this.
Hearing Autumn say that, Evelyn was a bit surprised. Before picking up, she’d thought the other party wanted to ask about how her "relationship" with Thomas was going. She hadn’t expected to be invited over as a guest instead.
What on earth was going on? Why was his mom suddenly inviting her over to his house? There hadn’t been any sign at all beforehand. He hadn’t given her the slightest heads-up.
Could this be something his mom decided on the spur of the moment? That had to be it, otherwise he wouldn’t have failed to mention it to her in advance.
So should she agree or not? She’d been to the Fisher Family home a few times before; going again now shouldn’t feel awkward, right? Everyone was already so familiar with each other anyway.
But the situation was different now. She was his girlfriend in name, and both sets of parents thought the two of them were actually dating. Would it be a bit... inappropriate for her to go over like this?
Just as Evelyn was still tangled up over whether to go, Autumn’s voice came through the phone again. "Evelyn! Are you listening to me?"
Not hearing any response for quite a while, Autumn on the other end was quite puzzled. She had no idea what exactly was happening over there.
"I’m here, Auntie. I’m listening." Hearing Autumn speak to her again, Evelyn hurriedly put away her inner turmoil and carefully responded to the person on the phone.
Because she couldn’t see her through the phone, Autumn had no idea what was going on over there, nor could she tell whether the person on this end was happy or upset. She could only rely on instinct. "Just now I mentioned inviting you over to our place. Would you be willing to come?"
She asked the same question again, this time with her voice raised a little, just wanting the person on this end to take the matter seriously.
"Of course I’d be willing, it’s just—"
"That’s wonderful! Evelyn, I’m so happy you’re willing to come over," Autumn cut in, delighted, the moment she heard Evelyn agree. She completely failed to notice that Evelyn hadn’t finished her sentence.
