Chapter 628: Chapter 628: Answer the Video Call, Let Me See You

"You really have a big mouth. Keep spouting this nonsense, and see if I don’t cut your tongue out."

As Daniel Hayes listened, his expression darkened, and he threatened her menacingly.

But Sunny Reed looked at him defiantly. "I do know what the antidote is," she said. "Are you still going to kill me now?"

At her words, Daniel Hayes’s expression turned completely grim.

Just then, Chloe Reed tugged on Daniel Hayes’s sleeve.

Daniel Hayes looked at her. "Chloe, what is it?"

Chloe Reed turned and walked right out of the room. Without giving Sunny Reed another glance, Daniel Hayes followed her.

Chloe Reed stood outside the room and typed on her phone.

—She doesn’t know the antidote.

Daniel Hayes read the message and paused, taken aback. "How do you know?" he asked, puzzled.

—If she knew the antidote, she wouldn’t be acting like this.

Chloe Reed showed him her phone.

Daniel Hayes considered it for a moment, then nodded. ’She’s right.’ Sunny Reed was an insatiably greedy woman. If she really knew the antidote, she would have already made a long list of demands, not acted so vague.

Chloe Reed turned and walked toward her own room.

Daniel Hayes asked, "So if she’s useless now, what are your plans for her?"

Chloe Reed didn’t react. It was only after she returned to her room that she typed out her reply: "Don’t let her wounds heal. Don’t give her a full meal. Let her live in agony!"

After reading it, Daniel Hayes nodded. "Letting her die would be letting her off too easy. A fate worse than death is the best ending for her."

With that, he turned and left the room.

Chloe Reed walked to the window. Staring out at the pitch-black night, her heart sank deeper and deeper.

She touched her throat. Her thoughts turned to Walker Grant’s condition, and she closed her eyes.

’Vera Holloway could come at any time. How many more days do I have left to live?’

"..."

When dinner was delivered, Chloe Reed only took a few bites.

Seeing this, Dylan Finch couldn’t help but speak up. "Mrs. Grant, please eat a little more. It’ll help you recover faster. If Mr. Grant finds out you haven’t been eating properly, he’ll definitely punish me."

He paused, then added with a woeful expression, "I can’t afford another pay cut. I’m trying to save up to get married!"

His words made her laugh. She picked up her chopsticks and took a few more bites.

Seeing this, Dylan Finch breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

’As long as she’s eating, that’s what matters.’

「The next day.」

Chloe Reed had regained some of her strength, though she still couldn’t speak. She went straight to the ICU to check on Walker Grant.

Bodyguards stood guard at the entrance, and Dylan Finch was periodically checking with the doctor.

"Mr. Grant isn’t out of danger yet."

Dylan Finch’s expression was grave. "Mr. Grant was hit with two different poisons. Whether or not he can pull through is up to him now."

Chloe Reed bit her lip, her gaze lowered. Standing in the doorway, a slight tremor ran through her slender frame.

Seeing her like this, Dylan Finch couldn’t help but say, "Mrs. Grant, please don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault. It’s Sunny Reed’s fault, and the fault of whoever hurt you."

Chloe Reed still didn’t react.

Seeing this, Dylan Finch didn’t know what else to say.

Just then, Chloe Reed’s phone started ringing. She finally showed a reaction, pulling it out to see a video call from her grandmother.

Her pupils constricted, and she hurriedly declined the call.

’Grandma must be worried, that’s why she’s video calling—to check on me.’

Chloe Reed texted back: "Grandma, I’m out right now. What’s up?"

A voice message came back from her grandmother: "Answer the video. I don’t care if the connection is bad, just let me see you."
