Chapter 629: Chapter 629: So Laggy?
Chloe Reed’s eyelid twitched violently.
’If I make another excuse, the Old Madam will definitely get suspicious.’
’What should I do?’
Dylan Finch noticed the panicked look on her face and asked with concern, "Ma’am, what’s wrong?"
Chloe Reed played the Old Madam’s voice message for him.
Dylan Finch thought for a moment, then said, "That’s simple."
He then told Chloe Reed what to do.
Chloe Reed nodded after listening. ’His idea is brilliant!’
With that, Chloe Reed sent a message back to the Old Madam.
Chloe Reed: [Hold on, let me find a place with a better signal.]
They went straight to the hospital’s rear courtyard and found a wall to use as a backdrop. Then, taking a deep breath, she started a video call with the Old Madam.
The call connected quickly. The Old Madam’s wrinkled face appeared on the screen, her cloudy eyes instantly locking onto Chloe.
"Chloe, where have you been traveling these past few days?"
The Old Madam’s kind voice came through the phone.
Following Dylan Finch’s instructions, Chloe Reed started to move in short, jerky motions, mimicking a lagging video feed.
She opened and closed her mouth slowly, then sped up at random intervals.
Seeing this, the Old Madam frowned. "What’s happening? Can you talk?"
From the Old Madam’s perspective, Chloe Reed on the screen would freeze for a moment, then move again in slow motion.
Aunt Woods, who was taking care of her, was right there. Seeing the screen, she said, "Old Madam, it looks like Miss Chloe’s signal is bad. The video keeps freezing."
"Is that so?" The Old Madam glanced at her before looking back at the phone screen. "Chloe? Chloe?"
On the other end of the call, Chloe Reed continued to freeze and stutter.
Frustrated, the Old Madam had no choice but to hang up. She sent a voice message instead. "I knew the signal was bad over there, but I didn’t think it would be *this* bad. Stay there for a few days and then find a place with a better connection. A bad signal isn’t safe, you know?"
The moment the call disconnected, Chloe Reed let out a sigh of relief and rubbed her stiff face. Listening to the Old Madam’s voice message, a warmth spread through her heart, but it was quickly followed by a pang of sorrow that filled her chest.
Chloe Reed: [Okay, I understand. I’ll send you a video when my signal gets better.]
Chloe Reed: [In the meantime, take a look at these photos.]

She sent a few selfies to dispel any suspicion from the Old Madam.
The Old Madam didn’t reply, so Chloe put her phone away.
Dylan Finch was standing nearby. As she walked over, he asked, "The Old Madam wasn’t suspicious, was she?"
Chloe Reed shook her head and gave him a thumbs-up.
Dylan Finch smiled faintly. "When you work for Mr. Grant, you have to be ready to solve any kind of problem at a moment’s notice. I’ve been well-trained."
Chloe Reed smiled, and they walked back to the inpatient wing together.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, a bodyguard rushed over. "Ma’am, Assistant Finch, Mr. Grant is awake!"
Dylan Finch was overjoyed. "Really? How is he doing now?"
The bodyguard replied, "He’s undergoing some tests. Once they confirm everything is okay, he can be moved to a regular room."
Dylan Finch nodded, then turned to Chloe Reed. "Ma’am, please don’t worry. I’m sure Mr. Grant will be fine."
Chloe Reed looked a little dazed. She followed Dylan Finch straight to the doctor’s office.
Walker Grant was still being examined. The wait was agonizing. As she sat in her chair, every second felt like an eternity.
Two hours later, the bodyguard’s voice was heard again. "Mr. Grant has been moved to a regular room."
