Chapter 626: Chapter 626: Temporarily Sparing Her

Hearing the man’s words, the woman’s eyes flickered. She then smiled and said, "Brother, you’re always so busy with work. I shouldn’t trouble you with my little problems."

The man stood in the doorway, watching her intently. After a moment, the corner of his mouth curved into a faint smile. "Vera," he said, "Dad has always doted on you, and he’s entrusted you with some of the Group’s business. You absolutely cannot let him down."

Vera Holloway’s eyes flickered. "Don’t worry, Brother. I won’t let Dad or any of you down."

"Good." The man nodded. "Then stop fooling around and get focused. The shareholders’ meeting is in two months. You need to achieve some impressive results before then to shut those shareholders up. Understand?"

"Yes, I understand," Vera Holloway nodded obediently.

The man turned and left, pulling the door shut behind him.

The obedient smile on Vera Holloway’s face vanished in an instant, replaced by a dark expression. She walked over, redialed her subordinate’s number, and said coldly, "Hold off for now. Don’t make any rash moves. We’ll revisit this in a few months!"

"Yes, Miss."

Vera Holloway hung up. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths to calm herself.

’Damn it!’

’So what if Dad gave me a few projects?’

’And now every single one of them is watching me, waiting for me to make the tiniest mistake so they can pounce.’

’And I’m their sister!’

’I really can’t make another move against Chloe Reed. If they find out who she really is... I’ll be finished...’

...

Chloe Reed lay in her hospital bed all day, completely unresponsive, her vacant gaze fixed on the world outside her window.

As night fell, Daniel Hayes entered the room. Seeing that she was still staring blankly out the window, he asked gently, "Chloe, how are you feeling?"

At the sound of his voice, Chloe Reed’s gaze stirred. She looked over at him, hesitated for a long moment, then took out her phone and began to type.

"I’m fine, Daniel. You don’t need to worry about me."

Daniel Hayes sighed and pulled a chair over to sit down. "How could I not worry? The state you’re in is very concerning. Chloe, please don’t let your imagination run wild. Your voice is gone because you were poisoned. As soon as we find the antidote, it will come back. I’m sure it won’t be a permanent problem."

Chloe Reed’s long lashes trembled. She held her phone with both hands and continued to type.

"But what if we can’t find the antidote?"

"That won’t happen!" Daniel Hayes said immediately upon reading her message. "It’s a big world. There has to be someone out there who can neutralize this poison. We have time, we have resources—we’ll definitely find the antidote!"

Chloe Reed managed a wan smile for him.

Daniel Hayes scrambled for topics to talk about, trying to lift her spirits. After a while, he said, "Oh, by the way, maybe Sunny Reed knows where to find the antidote. She hasn’t woken up yet, but when she does, we’ll question her thoroughly."

At the mention of that name, a cold glint appeared in Chloe Reed’s eyes. She gripped her phone tightly and typed.

"She’s not dead?"

Daniel Hayes shook his head. "She’s hanging on by a thread. We’re keeping her alive so we can ask her about the antidote, right?"

Suddenly, Chloe Reed threw off the blankets and got out of bed.

Seeing this, Daniel Hayes quickly shot to his feet. "Whoa, where are you going?"

Chloe Reed, however, had already put on her shoes and was heading for the door. She took a few steps, then stopped, turned around, and pulled him out of the room with her.
