Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Pitiful, Helpless, but a Big Eater

Especially Gu Xulin.

"Let the child go!" The special ops officer aimed his gun at Gu Xulin.

Gu Xulin’s mind went blank for a second, but he quickly recovered. "My name is Gu Xulin, and she’s my little sister! I’m a celebrity—you can find our information online."

"Those guys over there are the poachers!" Gu Xulin pointed at the men ensnared by the large snakes.

The special ops team felt their worldviews shatter. What were they even seeing?!!

Snakes were wrapped around the poachers! And a group of other animals was sitting obediently to the side!

"Captain, I’d like to request a psych evaluation after this mission is complete! I think my brain is broken." A team member swallowed hard.

The captain shot him a glare, then verified the authenticity of Gu Xulin’s claim. After confirming he wasn’t lying, he looked at Gu Xulin. "Can you get them to let go?"

Before Gu Xulin could say anything, Gu Zhao’s eyes snapped open. "Quitting time!"

The moment they heard that, the animals immediately scattered!

’Bath time, bath time! Bath! Bath!’

The snake family, in particular, was unbelievably fast.

The special ops captain’s eyes narrowed.

He then ordered several officers to quickly cuff the poachers, search their clothes, and after confirming they had no hidden weapons, escort them out of the woods to be handed over to the police.

The little lynx scrambled down from a wolf’s head and rushed anxiously to Gu Zhao’s side. "MEOW... Big Sis, my mommy is in there!"

It rubbed its head against Gu Zhao’s hand and cried out toward the truck’s cargo bed.

Meanwhile, Ye Zuiyi was still crying and shouting nonstop.

The special ops officers rescued them, but they were clearly not in a good state of mind, insisting to the officers that Gu Zhao was in league with the poachers.

"She can understand animals! And she wouldn’t untie us. She must be one of the poachers’ accomplices!"

When the special ops officers asked who Gu Zhao was, they pointed at her.

The special ops officers: ’A five-year-old kid??’

The hostages were mentally unstable. The captain immediately decided to assign two more people to escort them out of the forest.

Zhong Siqi and the others also left the forest first.

Gu Zhao requested to stay. "I can calm the animals in the cargo bed."

The captain hesitated, but then he thought about the scene where Gu Zhao made the animals "clock out," and what the hostages had just said... After a moment, he decided to let her stay.

’We’ll see if she’s an accomplice once we put her to the test.’

As her guardian, Gu Xulin also requested to stay.

Captain Zhang Hong looked at Gu Zhao and Gu Xulin with a serious expression. "You can stay, but you must remain behind us and follow my orders for all actions."

Gu Xulin put his arm around Gu Zhao’s shoulder. "Understood."

The little lynx at Gu Zhao’s feet was getting anxious.

The wolf pack hadn’t left either. Worried about frightening someone, they hid further back, whining anxiously.

Zhang Hong opened the door himself. The officers behind him watched the cargo bed vigilantly, their guns at the ready.

"Stand back," Zhang Hong said in a low voice. Then he took a deep breath and pulled the door open.

Inside was a large, dark cloth. Zhang Hong ripped it away, revealing dozens of iron cages. Different animals were locked inside, but the contents of the largest one were a startling sight.

A black tiger! It had several golden-yellow stripes on its body, giving the entire tiger an exceptionally majestic appearance.

"Holy crap!" Gu Xulin subconsciously gulped.

Zhang Hong’s expression darkened. The severity of the situation had just increased.

"Is that a real black tiger?" The special ops officers were also stunned.

"Damn, its fur is all-natural, not dyed!"

The black-and-gold-striped tiger struggled to open its eyes. Seeing the guns—the same ones it had seen when it was captured—it let out an angry roar.

"ROAR! You deceitful humans!"

But because it was so weak, its roar wasn’t even as loud as the little lynx’s cry.

The little lynx scrambled anxiously into the truck, calling out to one of the cages. Inside, a large lynx lay motionless.

"Mommy, Mommy, WAHHH... Big Sis, my mommy isn’t moving, WAHHH." The little lynx was sobbing its heart out, tears welling up in its eyes as it looked pleadingly at Gu Zhao.

"They’re just asleep," Gu Zhao soothed. "Sleeping peacefully, without any pain."

"Really?" The little lynx stopped crying. After getting Gu Zhao’s definitive answer, it even turned its butt toward its mom and farted.

"HMPH! See if Mom dares to use my head to wipe her paws again!" Like a small child, the little lynx’s emotions came and went quickly. Once it knew its mom was okay, it started dancing around.

It ran from here to there, then leaped onto a special ops officer’s head.

The officer froze, terrified of letting the Class II protected animal fall.

"ROAR ROAR ROAR!!!" The tiger kept roaring, its voice hoarse and weak.

An idea struck Zhang Hong, and he looked toward Gu Zhao. "Little one, I hear you can understand animals. Can you tell us what it’s saying?"

Gu Zhao sneezed and rubbed her nose. ’Ye Zuiyi must be cursing me out!’ she thought.

Gu Zhao translated: "It’s cursing you out."

’Well, it’s not cursing me out. And even if it were, I wouldn’t admit it.’

"It says you’re all deceitful villains—wow, what a cultured tiger. It’s also cursing you to never eat meat again and be forced to chew on grass roots every day." ’What a vicious curse!’ Gu Zhao thought.

"ROAR ROAR ROAR ROAR ROAR!" Seeing that this two-legged cub could actually understand it, the tiger roared with even more excitement.

"ROAR ROAR ROAR!"

"That’s because you’re an idiot!" Gu Zhao said with disgust after listening for a moment.

"Bull-wolf-shit! Those two-leggers said they were taking Tiger to get food! You two-leggers are the bad ones! Not only did you lie to Tiger, you locked Tiger up! Tiger is starving! Starving!!!" the tiger howled in its tiny cage.

"You bad two-leggers! You lied to Tiger and didn’t even give Tiger food! And you captured other animals!"

"ROAR! And most importantly, they didn’t want to drink water! You bad two-leggers used those long things to stick them and feed them, but Tiger is starving to death, and you won’t give Tiger a single drop of water!! They’re asleep, but Tiger is about to faint from hunger!!" the tiger complained aggrievedly.

"Tiger wants to eat! Tiger wants to drink water!!"

Gu Xulin curiously whispered to Gu Zhao, "What’s up with this tiger?"

Everyone else pricked up their ears to listen.

Gu Zhao: "It’s a bit of a good-for-nothing and couldn’t catch any prey. It was starving, so the poachers tricked it by saying they’d take it for a nice meal. It believed them, but then the poachers didn’t feed it and just locked it up to starve."

"The big idiot thought the poachers using tranquilizer darts on the other animals was them forcing the animals to drink water... It even thinks the poachers were isolating it by not giving it a shot..."

Everyone fell silent.

’Was this tiger so harmless in the poachers’ eyes that they didn’t even need to tranquilize it?’

’And also! Have scams now reached the animal kingdom?!’

"Roar roar roar..." the tiger grumbled, each sound weak and listless.

"Hungry hungry hungry hungry hungry..."

Gu Zhao tentatively suggested, "How about we let it out and feed it something first?"

The special ops captain considered it for a moment, then requested permission from his superiors. In the end, he decided they would feed it first.

Just then, the wolves dragged over a wild sheep. "Here, human, give this to it. It’s so noisy."

The tiger didn’t feel looked down upon in the slightest. On the contrary, it started drooling.

"Give to Tiger~ Please give it to Tiger!" The tiger, having learned it from who-knows-where, was practically speaking in a cutesy, wheedling voice.

Everyone: "..."

’This tiger... doesn’t seem very bright.’

’Pitiful and helpless, but man, can it eat...’

The entire sheep disappeared into its stomach.
