Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Is He Using Me?
Ding Ning seemed to have thought of something; she reached out and pointed at Tuantuan.
Tuantuan froze, and the stream of voices constantly emerging in Jiang Che’s mind abruptly ceased. She tilted her head, her steps halted.
"From now on, you need to initiate communication with her before she’ll know what you’re trying to say," Ding Ning said quietly.
Jiang Che nodded vigorously, "Okay."
They really were a family. He hadn’t even told his wife about his little secret with Tuantuan, but she knew it all so clearly.
Tuantuan seemed absent-minded. Why?
Though she couldn’t comprehend those messy, disjointed thoughts in Jiang Che’s head, was there anything she shouldn’t be allowed to know?
"Dad, what’s a Ferris wheel?" She asked right away.
Jiang Che flushed. He knew it!
Ever since they’d formed the heart-to-heart ability, he often sensed what Tuantuan was thinking, and likewise, Tuantuan definitely knew his thoughts too.
Just now, in a flash, he’d thought of countless ways to cover up his deepest inner thoughts.
Thank goodness he managed to hide them!
"The Ferris wheel..." Jiang Che was a bit dazed by the question. He’d been so anxious,he’d thought of a lot of things he hadn’t even registered himself.
"It’s a kind of..." Jiang Che didn’t know how to describe it to Tuantuan. All these years in the hospital, he’d only occasionally overheard nurses mention amusement park Ferris wheels when he was little. Later, those nurses mostly talked about things like supernatural entities, items, skills, strategies.
Nobody mentioned it anymore, yet he’d always kept it deep in his heart.
He’d recalled it involuntarily just now, but now that he was asked, he really didn’t know what a Ferris wheel was.
"I don’t know either, but I heard you can sit and fly really high, it’s beautiful, romantic, exciting..." He struggled to describe it for Tuantuan, not knowing where to begin.
Now Tuantuan and Ding Ning both silently sensed Jiang Che’s confusion.
Ding Ning suddenly frowned, because that feeling of being watched surged up again in an instant.
She’d had this sensation before, but couldn’t pinpoint where it came from.
It was just like the feeling she got when surveying a domain with the Crystal Ball, only this time, she was the one being observed.
When the exit was revealed and Jiang Che led the others away, the voyeuristic feeling disappeared.
But just now, it suddenly surged up again.
Earlier, viewers in Jiang Che’s live stream did switch to see other Survivors, but after watching for a long time, they realized the others couldn’t even find the exit–wandering like headless chickens in the castle’s grounds.
No one even approached the spot where Ya was buried, let alone dug out the exit.
Some unlucky folks even encountered supernatural entities patrolling the dungeon and were hunted down.
Seeing that no one had a chance to escape, viewers switched back to watch what Jiang Che was doing.
This glimpse was startling—they saw Jiang Che like he’d entered a spider’s lair, holding a thin female supernatural entity in his arms, and the Little Demon Tuantuan clinging to his sleeve, following along.
[Seriously, everyone’s searching for the exit, and this guy...]
[These two entities must be addicted to playing with him. Honestly, he’s pretty pitiful—probably his self-consciousness is completely controlled now.]
[Like a puppet. But right now, he’s the only one who knows where the exit is.]
[And that’s why those two entities are controlling him to leave. They must be laughing—humans searching everywhere, while the only one who knows the exact spot gets led away.]
...
Ding Ning frowned, that feeling of being watched was getting stronger and stronger.
And it didn’t feel like the usual dungeon surveillance from humans, but from outside.
No wonder she was the boss of Dungeon 9—just a hint of perception and she could analyze where the surveillance came from.
Ding Ning frowned. Was humanity watching them from the outside?
She didn’t know how humans were doing it, but as she thought, her mind stirred, and the Crystal Ball in her hand quietly disappeared.
The next moment, a blinding light flared at the site of Ya’s corpse.
She awakened several supernatural entities from her domain to guard the exit, while she herself felt that hidden voyeurism suddenly vanish completely.
Those entities were only a bit weaker than Ding Ning herself.
Dungeon 9 was known as an SSS-rank dungeon—even if Ding Ning wasn’t guarding the exit herself, ordinary humans wouldn’t have the slightest chance of escaping.
As the explosion of light marked the exit, Ding Ning felt the voyeurism instantly disappear.
She immediately confirmed it was from humans.
Apart from humans, no one else cared about the exit.
Just as viewers poured into Jiang Che’s live stream, they instantly withdrew,
[Shit, it’s open!]
[How did it just open all of a sudden?]
[It’s like a seal—once it’s opened, you can’t hide it anymore, right?]
[A little dirt won’t hide it, come on.]
...
The viewers flooded out of Jiang Che’s stream, rushing to the perspective of those closest to the exit to check views.
Tuantuan watched Ding Ning with confusion. They’d walked so far—was the exit still set over there?
The exit of Dungeon 9 was never fixed—it depended on wherever Ding Ning’s Crystal Ball was placed.
"Next time, we’ll go together," Ding Ning smiled at Jiang Che, feeling his longing for this spot.
He was as lost about human things as she was.
Jiang Che nodded hard, feeling moved and joyful. In the past, he’d never miss any happiness with family, "Okay, we’ll go have fun together next time!"
He looked up at the ruined wasteland ahead, where a single small building stood in the center.
"That, is where my parents are."
The single-story building was striking—among the burned wasteland, it was the most intact structure.
Tuantuan and Ding Ning gazed toward the area ahead, their eyes fluttering.
Jiang Che’s parents were really bold!
But as the saying goes, "under the lamp it’s darkest"—the closer something is, the harder it is to discover or notice.
No one expected Jiang Che’s parents, relying on something that resembled a doctor’s coat to mask their human scent, would hide right where the Blood Slaughter Couple lived.
Ding Ning let out a sigh of relief; these two really were clever.
Fortunately they hid that way—if she went to ask for them, the Blood Slaughter Couple would probably show her some respect and let them go.
Suddenly, she looked sharply at Jiang Che. Did he recognize her?
Was he only treating her well to use her to save his parents?
For a moment, Ding Ning’s mind was in chaos. All along, she’d leaned on Jiang Che’s chest, feeling that sincere and searing heart.
This human let her feel emotions she’d never known; she enjoyed that burning warmth.
And now, reality was gradually shattering her illusions.
Was he only using her?
Thoughts scrambled—Ding Ning didn’t speak for a moment.
Jiang Che openly held her and walked to the door of the single building, knocking hard.
"Mom, Dad, I’m home."
