Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Textbook Teaching!
The first question left him sweating buckets, the next made him completely flustered.
What else?
The middle-aged fat guy’s mind was totally blank. What what? What was he talking about?
Seeing his lack of reaction, Blood Slaughter snorted coldly again, but was afraid he’d scare this human in front of him, "I mean, is there anything tastier?"
When he heard the detailed explanation, the middle-aged fat guy was dumbfounded. He looked at the dazzling array of food in front of him—being a rich guy, he knew what was expensive, what was cheap, what tasted good, and what was mediocre.
First, he ruled out the instant mini hotpot bought from the supermarket; this was the food the regular hospital caregivers had prepared for themselves. Some wanted a decent meal, but others weren’t thinking about that—they just wanted to survive and get out alive.
If you can’t escape the dungeon alive, eating well is pointless.
He carefully picked two items, buried his head, and raised them high above his head.
He kept his eyes shut, not daring to look at the evil spirits in front of him. His mind was a mess, his body numb—he couldn’t think at all about what to do next.
This scene was way beyond his comprehension.
’The people outside watching my live stream must be freaking out! Evil spirits actually like human food!’ At this moment, he wasn’t worrying about life or death—there was no point, he just couldn’t escape anyway.
All he was thinking about was being on TV, how his live stream must be exploding right now.
Damn it! Getting famous before I die—worth it!
He thought about lifting his head, wanting to give himself one last glorious image in life.
I’m on TV now—I should die with dignity, right?
’This is the most badass moment in Xiong Jie’s whole life!’ Holding onto that idea, he raised his head.
When he looked at the two evil spirits, he saw them holding the three chosen foods, standing by the dining table, examining them carefully.
The two evil spirits—neither of them looked at him!
"Should we...ask the human again?" Blood Slaughter turned his face, still totally clueless.
The food chosen by this human didn’t have production dates, but everything inside looked pretty fancy—a little clear box, individually wrapped items inside, a small water bag and some other stuff.
Blood Nurse snorted and headed toward the middle-aged fat guy.
Xiong Jie had wanted to die heroically, but when Blood Nurse approached him with that cold face, he chickened out and immediately lowered his head. He’d definitely overrated his own courage.
He lowered his head and tried to hide, and in the next second, felt himself being lifted right off the ground.
Shit!
He felt a chill inside, and made no resistance as he was picked up—he’d heard Blood Slaughter’s favorite hobby was torture.
The more prey fought back, the louder they screamed, the more it fired up the hunter’s urge to kill.
"You, come over here and fix these." He was dumped onto a chair beside the table. He stared blankly at the two evil spirits, who didn’t seem interested in hurting him.
"You have only ten minutes," Blood Nurse said coldly, "Besides these three on the table, pick ten more and prepare them all together."
She glanced at the instant meals—most required ten minutes to cook.
Calculating that Jiang Che would be back in half an hour—ten minutes prepping, ten minutes waiting for them to be ready, a few more minutes left over—she worked in some leeway.
"Get moving, don’t waste time." Blood Slaughter’s icy voice rang in his ears again.
Xiong Jie jolted in terror and immediately started tearing open the packages on the table.
Then he realized—the Blood Slaughter Couple really hadn’t laid a finger on him. They even left the kitchen, probably afraid of making him nervous and lowering his efficiency.
Xiong Jie didn’t dare stop his hands for a second. Looking at the food in his grip, all he felt was sheer absurdity.
Evil spirits actually really liked human food!
He thought about his stream viewers—everyone must be totally shocked now.
He could almost picture himself being surrounded by countless people, watching him.
He never imagined, one day, he’d become a textbook case for dungeons!
Xiong Jie had no idea that right now, his live stream was already empty. The viewers had left after thinking he was doomed, not hesitating for a second.
Comebacks from the brink only happen to main characters, not random nobodies like him.
On another road, Jiang Che’s livestream had no viewers either.
Once he moved away from the exit, the audience vanished quickly.
The ’Haunted House Family Play’ channel no longer attracted anyone.
People wanted to see life-and-death strategies based on family play; when Jiang Che abandoned a perfectly good chance, everyone realized—this nutcase really is stupid!
His brain is genuinely broken.
Ding Ning was nestled in Jiang Che’s arms. She unconsciously pressed her face to his chest, feeling his strong heart pounding rapidly.
She knew—the heart, it’s a human weakness. Hit it once and a human’s life ends.
But now, that weakness was beating in a rhythm she’d never felt before, and his body temperature was scorching hot.
Jiang Che’s cheeks turned a little red, even his ears were hot—from the moment he set Tuantuan down, he’d been princess-carrying Ding Ning. With her ear pressed against his chest, his palms were sweating.
"Are you very tired?" Ding Ning looked at him puzzled—it was just a short walk, and yet he was sweating like crazy.
Jiang Che quickly shook his head, "No..."
"Why so much sweat?" Ding Ning reached out and wiped the beads of sweat from his face.
From what she knew about humans, people only sweat for three reasons: first is exhaustion, second is heat, third is cold sweat from fear.
The dungeon’s temperature was strange, but with Jiang Che by her side, she felt it was perfectly pleasant.
She ruled out heat right off the bat, and couldn’t sense fear in Jiang Che’s emotions, so cold sweat was out too.
So only one option was left—tired.
Her fingers touched Jiang Che’s cheek, feeling a heat even hotter than his body.
"No...not really." Ding Ning’s icy fingertips sent electric currents through Jiang Che’s body. "I’m just...happy, excited... blessed."
"And a bit..." He couldn’t really say it in front of his daughter—knowing Tuantuan could read most of his thoughts, he was desperately suppressing the content in his mind.
He kept forcing himself to think about their future family life, how they’d live happily together.
"...Got it." Ding Ning withdrew her hand. She’d studied humans—she instantly understood what Jiang Che was thinking.
"What are you two talking about?" Tuantuan poked her head over, confused. Whatever they said, she just couldn’t get it.
She frowned and tried reading Jiang Che’s thoughts—so many ideas, chaotic, swirling everywhere,
’Buy Tuantuan a bike...’
’Buy wife pretty clothes, can’t forget the jewelry...’
’Wife is so gorgeous, daughter so cute...’
’Mom’s cooking yesterday was amazing...’
’Happiest moment of my whole life...’
’Heard about the Huangpu River, but never taken wife and daughter to see it. Next time, go ride the Ferris wheel together...’
...
What the heck? Why is his brain suddenly filled with all this random junk?
