Chapter 148: Chapter 148: My Sister-in-Law Really Doesn’t Look Like a Local

Standing at the mouth of that black halo, he turned back for another glance behind him.

Xiong Jie gazed at the exit, his heart ablaze.

This time, after leaving the Dungeon, he’d have two SSS-level clear records. Though neither was the first clear, he was already satisfied.

Surviving is enough—why bother thinking too much?

Xiong Jie stopped walking; he didn’t even plan to rush towards the door.

If he did rush, he’d snag a first-clear slot, but his life would end there.

Jiang Che turned back once more. This time, at the hallway’s end, he saw a familiar silhouette sprinting towards him.

Jiang Che opened his arms and ran toward her too.

"Che, thank goodness I wasn’t late." Ding Ning pressed her head to Jiang Che’s chest.

A strong heartbeat thumped again and again; the girl shut her eyes tightly, her arms locked around Jiang Che’s waist.

"Sorry, I didn’t manage to do it." Her voice was soft, pressed against Jiang Che’s chest.

The faint sound traveled to Jiang Che’s mind through the bones.

"Sorry, I couldn’t stop the two worlds from merging." Ding Ning let out a sigh; now, she didn’t even know what the human world would be like after the breach.

The change wouldn’t be fast, but it wouldn’t be slow either.

"It’s okay. I never cared about that," Jiang Che threaded his fingers through her soft hair, his head buried in Ding Ning’s neck and shoulder.

A pleasant scent floated around his nose, ethereal somehow; Jiang Che sniffed deeply again and again.

"But I wanted you to see those things."

"While the world is still here, go travel and take a look when you get back!" Ding Ning cupped Jiang Che’s face.

Jiang Che didn’t speak, only nodded. "I will."

"Next time, when we arrive, I’ll go with you."

"You can scout the route first, okay?" Ding Ning giggled.

Jiang Che nodded. "I’ll plan it all out—then we’ll go exploring together." He pressed his forehead against Ding Ning’s.

Just as he thought, a voice suddenly popped up in Jiang Che’s mind.

"Have you ever seen your wife’s true form?"

"Do you want to see your wife’s true form?"

Jiang Che hugged Ding Ning tight, ignoring the speaking voice in his head.

The voice felt strange; he had never heard it before.

When the voice appeared, Ding Ning heard it too.

Or rather, the voice made no secret of itself, clearly speaking for both. This was an overt move.

What would happen if Jiang Che saw her true form?

Seeing Jiang Che remain silent, never mentioning it, Ding Ning felt a bit disappointed. She feared he’d bring it up, but also feared he wouldn’t.

"Che, do you want to see?" In the end, Ding Ning couldn’t resist; she looked at Jiang Che, her gaze a little shy.

Ding Ning almost wanted to laugh—she knew she was falling so hard.

She used to never care if humans were scared of her appearance, but now, she was genuinely scared of Jiang Che’s reaction to her true form.

Jiang Che wouldn’t, but she couldn’t help herself.

"I don’t want to see." Jiang Che shook his head. "But I kind of do."

Ding Ning kept quiet.

"If you want me to, I’ll look. If you don’t, then forget it." Jiang Che never cared about these things.

"I’m just scared..." Ding Ning shook her head.

"Me too." Jiang Che pulled her hand and walked over to the steps. The two sat side by side, whispering quietly.

"You’re scared too..." Ding Ning grew silent, realizing Jiang Che was genuinely sincere.

Was he scared of seeing her true form?

"Yeah, we’re different. I’m afraid you won’t like how I look." Jiang Che covered his face. "When I went to the Dungeon, I found the gap between evil spirits and humans was so big—my parents liked decorating the house in bloody style."

"I’m also scared my appearance doesn’t fit your evil spirit aesthetics." Jiang Che sighed.

He hadn’t noticed at first; but after realizing the racial difference, he truly feared it.

"Pfft!" Ding Ning burst out laughing. Jiang Che’s words instantly dispelled her unease.

"What I love is you, no matter how you look." she whispered.

Ever since she first met Jiang Che, she’d liked him.

That pure, blazing heart made her want to stay close.

"Me too!" Jiang Che said loudly.

Hearing that firm voice, everyone couldn’t help but glance their way.

"Sister-in-law definitely doesn’t look like a local," Zhou Ang couldn’t see Ding Ning clearly—he only saw her shrouded in mist.

His words instantly caught Hua’s eye.

"No, bro, get clear on where you are." Hua flicked her finger, and a vine lifted Zhou Ang and dangled him in midair.

"What’s a local anyway? We’re the locals here; you’re all outsiders!"

"Your house? You shameless foreigners!"

...

Suspended in the air, Zhou Ang spun round and round, retching noises echoed above.

On top, Zhou Ang’s stammered voice drifted down at intervals.

"Sister Hua, maybe... you, eat me, that’s fine, I guess."

Feihu looked on enviously; gray-black dust floated everywhere in the Dungeon. There was no scent of blood—she wondered why it had vanished.

The world was empty, with not a single view; in the distance, the black forest towered into the sky.

Looking way out gave her a dizzy feeling.

Where she stood, one side was forest.

On the other, she gazed afar—at the foot of the mountain was a huge ruined city, completely black.

This Dungeon’s style was unlike anything she’d seen before.

Looking back the other way, Tuantuan watched Zhou Ang spinning in circles and clapped, laughing out loud.

Zhou Ang, the human, was snatched up and twirled by Hua, the evil spirit. But instead of begging, he asked her to eat him.

What kind of weird logic was that?

If he gets eaten, wouldn’t his life be over?

She looked at Xiong Jie sitting quietly at the side; he just watched, not saying a single word.

"You..."

"Me? I’m just the one who’s truly lucky—lucky to survive, lucky to clear." Xiong Jie shrugged; in front of Feihu, he couldn’t bring himself to admit he was a slave.

He didn’t mind being a slave; for survival and power, he’d do anything.

But he hated Zhou Ang. Latecomers overtaking him was fine, but why hadn’t Zhou Ang been treated like a slave?

Feihu was silent; she realized she was like Xiong Jie, now one of those lucky souls who cleared an SSS-level Dungeon.

She turned her gaze to Jiang Che and Ding Ning, sitting side by side.

She couldn’t see Ding Ning’s face.

Must be a beautiful evil spirit—Feihu started fantasizing about Ding Ning’s looks.

Definitely a woman both gentle and gorgeous.

Slim waist, long legs; hopefully with a tender beauty mark at the corner of her eye.
