Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Humanity in Peril!
Originally, Jiang Che had planned to go to Xiong Jie’s house with him and help him deal with his so-called family matters.
His nephew’s information had already been sent to his email by the Flying Tiger people.
On the road, they hailed a taxi. Sitting in the back seat, Jiang Che spent the whole ride learning from Xiong Jie how to use a cellphone.
The moment he figured out the phone, Jiang Che started watching previous dungeon guides and replays.
He wanted to understand what dungeons actually looked like.
On the hour-long drive, he watched for a full hour.
The more he watched, the deeper his frown became.
Because dungeons didn’t seem to be what he had imagined.
Xiong Jie didn’t stop him. This was a stage he had to get through sooner or later.
When Xiong Jie went to handle his own matters, Jiang Che stayed in the car. He made no attempt to drag Jiang Che along for family business.
Half an hour later, Xiong Jie came out of the house, water stains still wet on his hands, a flash of blood in his eyes.
Back in the car, he saw Jiang Che sitting in the back seat, looking out the window, his phone set aside. He was no longer watching those so-called dungeon guides.
"Uncle Xiong, let’s join Flying Tiger," Jiang Che said to him with a smile.
"Alright, I’m fine with whatever."
He glanced at Jiang Che a few times, not knowing what Jiang Che had been thinking in the past half hour. There was a new layer of determination in his eyes.
He pulled out his phone to contact someone in the Flying Tiger Squad, but as soon as he took it out, a call came in from Flying Tiger.
"Where are you?" Flying Tiger’s voice sounded urgent.
"Is there something going on?" Xiong Jie paused for a moment. He had just finished handling business, and now Flying Tiger was calling—wasn’t this clearly tracking their movements?
"Let’s hurry and meet up. This time, things are a bit unusual." There was panic in Flying Tiger’s voice. "The supernatural has invaded reality, and the interval seems to be shortening."
Xiong Jie put the call on speaker; he meant for Jiang Che to listen. Jiang Che hadn’t even reacted yet, but the taxi driver was so frightened he slammed on the brakes.
"Alright, tell us a spot and we’ll see you soon," Xiong Jie said, then hung up.
"Boss, I know you’re big shots. You have to save me." The driver was motionless, pleading as he looked at Xiong Jie.
"Me?" Xiong Jie pointed at his own nose. "I’m just an ordinary Tier Two, I can barely keep myself safe."
He turned and looked at Jiang Che. "Young boss, I watched your livestreams—your luck is absolutely insane, you’re definitely not a normal person. Can you save me?"
"I... how exactly am I supposed to save you?" Jiang Che asked seriously.
The driver was stunned by his reply, because from his perspective, Jiang Che’s luck couldn’t protect anyone—everyone around him had died.
"Go home and get yourself ready. It’s just going from ten days down to nine days. However you made it through before, you’ll make it again," Xiong Jie said indifferently. Even for him, hearing the ten-day cycle become nine was a surprise, but he accepted it quickly.
Ever since humanity started interacting with the supernatural world, nothing that happens seems all that strange anymore.
They arrived at the place arranged by Flying Tiger—a villa on the outskirts, away from downtown.
As soon as they got there, Jiang Che saw a bunch of unfamiliar faces.
"All big names," Xiong Jie whispered to Jiang Che.
The two headed inside, all the way through without obstacle.
Inside the villa, a butler stepped up politely and led them to the parlor, serving them tea.
"Miss is in a meeting right now. This situation is severe, and all the major organizations are searching for solutions. You two can wait here patiently. If you need anything, just let us know."
"If you have any questions, feel free to ask—I’ll answer everything I know."
"Is it really that serious?" Xiong Jie said casually.
In the world as it is now, isn’t anything that happens normal?
The butler patiently explained, "Miss said, maybe this change seems ordinary to most people—ten days becomes nine."
"But what if it keeps on changing?"
"Nine days? Eight? Then three, two, one?"
"Until finally, the supernatural can fully descend into this world. Then, will humanity stand a chance?"
The butler’s expression was solemn. He’d been told by Miss that Jiang Che didn’t understand much yet, so he needed to explain in detail.
Xiong Jie furrowed his brow, not daring to look at Jiang Che.
Because his first reaction was: the supernatural entities shortening their arrival intervals—could it be because of Jiang Che?
If it were before, he’d definitely panic, but after learning about Jiang Che’s ties with the supernatural, he was sure the issue had some other cause.
Seeing they had no other requests, the butler quickly withdrew, leaving the place to Xiong Jie and Jiang Che.
The parlor was scented with pleasant incense. Jiang Che wasn’t stupid. He had only just begun to grasp humanity’s and the evil spirits’ predicament.
He could guarantee the evil spirits wouldn’t kill him—but what about everyone else?
He knew the evil spirits descending meant a bloody massacre for humanity.
At the same time, he realized that his hope for humans and spirits to coexist peacefully was nothing but an unrealistic fantasy.
They didn’t have to wait long. Flying Tiger came out of the conference room, face dark.
Seeing Jiang Che, she wasn’t in the mood for jokes; she simply told the two to stick around the villa and not leave on their own.
The original supernatural arrival scheduled in three days had suddenly moved up to two, and the day was almost over. Rest one more day, and then the entities would descend.
"Will this be announced to the public?" Jiang Che asked, looking at Flying Tiger’s back.
Those previous secrets—they used to say not telling the public wouldn’t matter. Are they saying it now?
"It’s already announced. You can check online for updates."
Jiang Che sat on the sofa, pulled out his phone and tapped open the Flying Tiger app. Sure enough, the whole screen was flooded with pop-up notices.
Red alert text burned his eyes.
[Urgent Intelligence!!]
[According to the latest data, the next supernatural descent will be in two days; from now on, the ten-day cycle is reduced to nine.]
He opened the alert to find nothing but endless online discussions below.
’Nine days!’
’Will it drop to eight days soon? Seven? ...’
’Definitely possible. The evil spirits are taking over humanity’s world bit by bit! This is just a small step for them.’
’Didn’t people already say it? Humanity should actively join dungeons, find survival strategies, and grow. Otherwise, when the spirits fully descend, everyone will be slaughtered like sheep.’
’I just want a quiet life—is that too much to ask?’
’This is the real apocalypse—Humanity is in danger!’
