Chapter 105: Chapter 105: This Is the Trend of the Times!
One comment stood out more than the others.
[Everyone says if the sky falls, the tall ones will hold it up. But right now, humanity doesn’t seem to have anyone tall enough to carry the world.]
"That’s just the way things are now." Xiong Jie glanced at Jiang Che.
Xiong Jie figured Jiang Che was just a small part of it; after all, Dungeon 9 was just one of the SSS-level dungeons.
Even without Jiang Che, the conflict between humanity and the evil spirits would only escalate.
A day wasn’t hard to wait through. In fact, they just slept, and there was the sun hanging overhead again.
The villa was busy. There were always experts coming and going, all arranged by Fei Hu’s father to protect his daughter.
"So if the A-level dungeon never shows up, are you just not going to participate?" Jiang Che asked Fei Hu at dinner, puzzled.
Fei Hu had said before that she was capable of passing an A-level dungeon, but just hadn’t found the opportunity yet.
"That was my plan before, but after what happened, I’m considering B-level dungeons too now." Fei Hu didn’t hide her intentions.
"That’s why I really envy you, and I hope you can join Fei Hu." She poked her chopsticks into the food in her bowl.
"Whenever something this bizarre happens, it’s a matter of life and death for me." She spread her hands—entering a dungeon as an ordinary person was always a gamble for survival.
The sudden change left her with no time to wait for another chance—growing stronger now mattered more than starting potential.
"How do we get stronger?" Jiang Che asked in confusion.
"If you come out of the dungeon alive, you can absorb the dungeon’s essence and strengthen yourself."
"Do you get bonus experience for killing evil spirits?" Xiong Jie suddenly spoke up.
"I wish you could, but this isn’t some kill-to-level-up game. Battling evil spirits might hone your fighting skills, but it does nothing for your rank."
"So if that’s true, does that mean humans don’t actually need to kill evil spirits? They just have to clear dungeons to grow strong. Then why do we have to keep fighting evil spirits?"
"Sometimes I really envy you, how innocent you are—kids nowadays all have to keep their hearts pure." Fei Hu propped her chin and looked at Jiang Che; right now, he truly looked like a patch of untouched clean earth.
She liked being around Jiang Che, and not just because of his potential—it was more about that gentle peace he radiated.
She didn’t want to stay with him just for his talent, but more for that clean, calm soul.
"You just stick with me when the time comes. You hardly have any real combat experience yet, one dungeon isn’t enough to make you anything."
Jiang Che stayed silent, but Xiong Jie knew Jiang Che wouldn’t follow Fei Hu forever. Both of them had their own tasks and missions.
"Miss, if you spoil geniuses like this they’ll turn useless. Jiang Che and I will stick nearby, and if things get dangerous we’ll run to you. Even if killing monsters doesn’t make us stronger, we still need basic combat experience, right?" Xiong Jie started giving himself and Jiang Che reasons to leave.
"Fine, stick to the area nearby then. If you run into trouble you can’t handle, come find us." She looked at Jiang Che seriously.
Jiang Che looked at his phone. He’d thought changing from ten days to nine would throw everyone into chaos, but instead, online, people had already teamed up and handled everything that needed doing in just a day.
"Humanity’s not as fragile as you think. After so many years of these bizarre events, we’ve adapted."
"Things only get messy when the warnings go out, mostly so people have a day to write a new will."
After dinner, Jiang Che and Xiong Jie went outside. They put up a tent in the wilderness—not far from Fei Hu and the others—so if anything happened, they could hurry back fast.
Xiong Jie wasn’t just looking for shelter anymore.
He’d never had the ability before, but now he did, he wanted to get even stronger.
Just like everyone envied: being at tier two peak right from the start, he was already a genius in many people’s eyes.
"Did you ask your old master or them if they’re coming this time?"
Night fell. The two of them sat in front of the tent; Xiong Jie had a stick in hand, poking at the campfire built before them.
"Nothing was said." Jiang Che shook his head. He’d asked Tuantuan if she’d come find him, but she only replied that it was a secret.
Xiong Jie didn’t mind either way.
As long as no evil spirits came looking for trouble, he wouldn’t go looking for them either.
He believed, with his double-agent status, there was no way he’d die, and neither would Jiang Che.
Their real reason for leaving Fei Hu’s area was that if they weren’t attacked by any evil spirits, it would have been a pain to explain.
Time ticked by. Bored, the two of them started browsing the net. Streamers had already started, showing how they’d battle evil spirits live.
Not all regions would be marked as a hunting ground, and there were always experts actively hunting evil spirits. Ordinary people just needed to lay low.
As soon as midnight hit, the moon overhead grew rounder and bigger.
Until that moon, several times larger than usual, took up nearly half the sky. Everyone who looked up could see that massive, white moon.
That’s when they knew—the supernatural had arrived.
Jiang Che and Xiong Jie stayed out in the wild.
There wasn’t a trace of danger around them, nor could they sense any presence of evil spirits.
No evil spirits drew near the two.
"Uncle Xiong? Has it started?" Jiang Che didn’t feel any difference from before.
"It has. Anyone who can see this moon is within the event’s area." Xiong Jie looked up at the sky, a flicker of fear flashing in his eyes.
The giant moon weighed on everyone’s hearts, as if it could fall at any time and crush them all.
"Tuantuan?" Jiang Che tried to contact Tuantuan, but got no response.
"Is she coming?" Xiong Jie asked, puzzled.
"Probably not. She hasn’t answered my calls at all," Jiang Che shook his head.
Xiong Jie said nothing, his heart turning cold. He knew Jiang Che could contact evil spirits, just like he himself could reach out to his master in an emergency.
"Let’s wander around a bit. If nothing happens, we’ll head back." Xiong Jie had to make sure his master hadn’t given new instructions, or had finished giving them, before returning to the human side.
Jiang Che called Tuantuan several times again, but still got nothing.
Strange—Tuantuan usually never ignores his calls.
Tuantuan felt the communication in her mind. Right now, she was lurking at Fei Hu’s side, watching as Fei Hu stared in fear at the moon above.
All the security in the area was active, with no incident alerts at all.
She relaxed a little, found a stool, and tried to sit down to rest.
Bang—
Fei Hu landed flat on her ass, crashing heavily to the floor.
"Where’s the chair?"
