Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Scumbag Couple, Get Out Here
Though they hadn’t seen each other in years, Cecelia had been close to Mr. Kane back then and had even had dinner at his home. She remembered his wife well and recognized her instantly.
She was pleasantly surprised. "Mrs. Kane? What are you..."
Mrs. Kane recognized Cecelia instantly as well.
She was hopelessly romantic, having spent her entire life devotedly and clingily in love with her husband, Kane.
She had a congenital condition that prevented her from having children. Coupled with a relaxed work schedule, she often visited her husband at the university to wait for him, all to nurture their relationship. As a result, she got to know many of Kane’s students.
But over all those years, the one who left the deepest impression was Cecelia Archer.
Not only was Cecelia a good, obedient, and diligent student, but she was also beautiful and came from a poor family.
In Mr. Kane’s own words, Cecelia was the female version of his younger self. Seeing her often reminded him of his own university days. He greatly admired her dedication to her studies and, at the same time, felt a deep sympathy for her.
Out of love for her husband, Mrs. Kane’s heart ached for the struggles of his younger self, and that sympathy extended to Cecelia. She took the initiative to invite the girl to their home for dinner several times.
But then she heard Cecelia had dropped out of school. When she asked Kane what had happened, he said he didn’t know.
She found that odd. ’How could a teacher not know why his favorite student dropped out?’ But Kane had said it was a private matter and told her not to pry, so she dropped it.
But now, seeing her...
Cecelia had shed the naivety and poverty of her student days. Though still young, her clothes and overall aura exuded a newfound maturity and elegance.
She could even afford a Chanel dress.
It was a very simple design, but it was exactly the style Kane loved!
The boy and girl by her side were adorable—they looked exactly like the children she had dreamed of countless times...
A tremor wracked Mrs. Kane’s body, so violent she could barely stand.
She stared at the two children in disbelief. "They... how old are they?"
Cecelia never expected to run into her here, nor did she have any idea why Mrs. Kane had come straight to her hospital room.
Assuming Mrs. Kane knew she had dropped out of school because she was pregnant, Cecelia felt a deep sense of shame.
After all, Mrs. Kane had always been good to her—more like an aunt than simply her professor’s wife.
When she had been exposed for being pregnant and allegedly stealing, Cecelia’s first pang of sorrow wasn’t for her ruined academic career, but for letting down Mr. and Mrs. Kane.
"A little... a little over three."
’A little over three?’
Mrs. Kane did the math. The timing was perfect.
’So she got together with Kane back then. And his bastards are already this big!’
She had treated them with utter sincerity, given them her all, and in return, they had done something so vile behind her back!
SLAP! Blind with rage, Mrs. Kane slapped Cecelia across the face.
"You slut! You animal! Are you even human? I was so good to you, and this is how you repay me? Huh? You’re not even human!"
"So you’ve been raising his children behind my back all these years! You’ve got some nerve, Cecelia Archer! Did all the other men in the world die? You could have hooked up with anyone, but you had to go after a married man! You even dropped out of school for him. You’re utterly shameless!"
"It feels good, doesn’t it? Being his kept woman? Didn’t you say you admired him? Are you just thrilled to death, getting to sleep with the man you admire every day while he pays for everything? Hmm?"
Cecelia never thought Mrs. Kane would fly into such a rage, much less strike her. The slap was solid, leaving one side of her face and her ear stinging hotly.
But that wasn’t what mattered. What on earth was she screaming about?
’What does she mean, "go after a married man"? What does she mean, "sleep with the man you admire"?’ ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Mrs. Kane? What are you talking about? You must have misunderstood something."
"Misunderstanding? You’ve raised these bastards until they’re this big! The naked proof is right in front of me, and you’re telling me I’ve misunderstood? You had the guts to do it, but you don’t have the courage to admit it? Did you take me for a fool? Did you think I’d never find out about your disgusting affair?"
"I just don’t get it. What’s so great about Silas Kane? Besides giving a few lectures, what else is he good for? If it weren’t for me and my father, would he have been able to keep his teaching job at the university? Would he have gotten a position at the oncology hospital? Ha!"
"You’ve crossed me, so your good life is officially over! After I’m done with you, just watch how I’ll deal with him! Call Silas Kane! In front of these two bastards, he’s going to explain himself to me today! Call him! Now!"
Cecelia was speechless.
She hadn’t seen her professor or his wife in years. Life was so busy she hadn’t even had time to think about them. How could this even turn into such a huge misunderstanding?
’Who in their right mind would come up with the idea that these two children were mine and Mr. Kane’s? It’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard!’
Enduring the stinging pain in her cheek, Cecelia tried her best to calm Mrs. Kane down.
"It’s not that I won’t call, I don’t have Mr. Kane’s number. We haven’t been in contact for years. Mrs. Kane, did someone tell you something?"
"You don’t have to believe me, but you can’t possibly doubt Mr. Kane. Is he up for some kind of promotion or award? Maybe someone is trying to sabotage him! You can’t fall for their trap!"
If she didn’t have the DNA test report—the one with her name and Silas Kane’s written on it in black and white—Cecelia’s words might have made her hesitate.
But now, with the report from an official agency in her hand, Mrs. Kane was so furious she felt she might have a stroke.
"You won’t call him? Fine, I will! We’ll find out the truth once we confront him face-to-face! You dare to do it but not admit it? Let’s see you try to talk your way out of this when that bastard gets here! I’m calling him right now!"
She dialed Mr. Kane’s number right in front of Cecelia, but he was in a meeting and his phone was turned off.
Mrs. Kane assumed he was avoiding her, which only made her angrier. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
She slammed her phone to the ground, grabbed Cecelia by the collar, and raised her hand to strike her again.
"I could just die! I’ve been with that scoundrel for over twenty years! I gave him the best years of my life! And just because I couldn’t give him children, he does this to me?"
"You must be so smug, right? He’s hiding, refusing to see me. You must be thrilled! You slut, you ruined my life! I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!"
The two children stared at the ferocious woman, stunned with fear at first. When they realized she was attacking Cecelia, they both rushed forward to pull her away.
"Let her go! Let go of my mom! What are you doing? You can’t hit people! Let go!"
"Mommy! Are you okay? Somebody help! Somebody save my mommy!"
The four of them—one large, three small—were tangled in a chaotic, shouting mess. Seeing the brawl, a nurse decided it was time to get the director and rushed to knock on the conference room door.
Damien Vaughn, Shane Grant, and several top figures in the medical field were in a meeting. The nurse scanned the room and spotted Director Mason.
"Director, could you please come out for a moment?"
As soon as the conference room door opened, the intermittent sound of a woman’s shrill shrieking drifted in.
Director Mason frowned. "What’s wrong? What’s going on out there? Who’s causing such a racket?"
"There’s a fight in room 6602. A woman claiming to be a professor’s wife says Cecelia Archer had her husband’s children and is trying to beat her to death. We can’t pull her off..."
What? Room 6602?
A professor’s wife? Cecelia Archer?
Damien Vaughn, Shane Grant, and Mr. Kane all shot to their feet in unison!
