Chapter 1161: Chapter 1161: He’s My Dad
"Mom!"
Janelle had just stepped off the taxi when she heard the voice and looked up to see Noah leaning over the balcony, peering downstairs.
Arthur Sutton followed her out, carrying bags of things he’d bought for the kids while shopping.
Janelle reached out to take some of the bags and smiled at Arthur, saying, "I guess my mom has already talked to the kids."
Sure enough, as Noah came to greet them at the elevator entrance, he appeared unusually shy upon seeing Arthur Sutton, not even calling him "Uncle Sutton," though his eyes never left Arthur, hiding shyly behind Janelle.
"You’re here? Come in and sit," Mrs. Tollman warmly invited them.
Even though Janelle was back in her own home, she suddenly felt a bit awkward and uneasy.
It was as if everyone was acting strangely, yet no one was stepping up to address the topic directly.
"Mom, do you need help?"
"No need, you just keep them company. There’s one dish left to cook, then we’ll eat. There are fruits on the coffee table, let Sutton have some to fill his stomach a bit."
"Mom." Noah came over and tugged at Janelle’s skirt, "I have a secret to tell you."
Janelle knew what Noah wanted to ask, she also felt she should explain things to the child properly.
She held Noah’s hand and said to Arthur, "Um... you sit down and have some fruit, I’m going inside to change clothes."
Arthur nodded, and turned to sit down on the sofa.
Chase glanced at him and then continued watching TV.
The TV was showing Noah’s favorite cartoon.
Father and son sat on either side, neither speaking, both watching a program they didn’t really like.
Inside the room, Noah asked Janelle, "Mom, Grandma said Uncle Sutton will be my dad from now on, is it true?"
"Yes, didn’t Noah say he wanted Uncle Sutton to be his dad?"
"Yay!" Noah was so happy he started dancing, "I have a dad now!"
Seeing Noah’s excited look, Janelle suddenly felt a pang of sadness and affection.
"What about Uncle Archer? Can he be Chase’s dad too?"
Feeling a bit taken aback by Noah’s words, Janelle awkwardly explained, "Your dad is also your brother’s dad."
"Why not? Having two dads isn’t bad. That way mom, you won’t be so tired, and I really like Uncle Archer."
Janelle truly didn’t know how to explain this to the child, so she simply said, "You only have one mom, why would you need two dads? Don’t say silly things in front of your Uncle Sutton, he’ll be unhappy."
Noah nodded in half-understanding, then corrected, "He’s not Uncle Sutton anymore, he’s my dad."
Janelle laughed and patted Noah’s head, saying, "Then remember to greet him later."
Noah nodded shyly, "Okay."
Once they left the room, Noah still didn’t have the courage to speak to Arthur Sutton, and Janelle understood the child needed time to adjust, so she didn’t force him.
Not just the children, even Janelle herself was still a bit unaccustomed.
After exchanging a few simple words with Arthur in the living room, she slipped away under the pretense of going to help in the kitchen.
Arthur pointed to the paper bags placed in the corner and said to the kids, "I bought some gifts for you two, go and see if you like them."
Chase glanced at the bags, curious but reluctant to show it.
While Noah was very direct, excitedly running over to pull open the bags and check them out.
