Chapter 1140: Chapter 1140: Giving You and the Child a Complete Home
After a moment of silence, Janelle Tollman looked up and asked, "So, is Mr. Sutton doing all this because of the child’s existence, feeling that he should take responsibility?"
Before Arthur Sutton could answer, Janelle continued, "If that’s the case, Mr. Sutton, you don’t have to feel any psychological burden. I won’t reveal your identity to the child, nor will I disturb your future life."
"I came to you not just because of the child, nor simply out of responsibility." Arthur’s fingertips gently rubbed the handle of the cup. After pursing his lips, he looked up at Janelle Tollman: "Can’t you tell that I like you?"
Janelle was taken aback, her ears showing a slight blush, but on the surface, she tried her best to remain calm and composed: "...But we don’t really know each other that well, and haven’t interacted much."
Arthur Sutton smiled and gently shook his head: "To you, we’ve only known each other for a few months, but to me, it’s been four years."
Janelle’s tone was somewhat puzzled and incredulous: "...Just because of that night?"
"If I admit it, I hope you won’t think I’m a strange person," Arthur confessed frankly. "Actually, before you, I had no romantic experience, and after that day, finding you became an obsession in my heart. For four years, every night, I would recall that vague face in my mind, trying hard to make it clearer."
Janelle listened quietly, her calm exterior unable to control the emotional turbulence caused by Arthur Sutton’s words.
Her circle of friends had always been very simple, and she had never imagined that a man had been searching for her for four years.
And this man was the father of her child.
"Janelle... I sincerely hope to give you and the child a complete family and want to make up for the years I’ve missed. I’m sorry you had to endure so much hardship alone."
These words were undeniably moving, and even Janelle, who always considered herself strong-minded, was swayed.
However, she still feared and hesitated, feeling both hopeful and uneasy about the future.
Wayne Archer’s call came again, and after answering, Janelle stood up and said to Arthur Sutton, "Mr. Sutton, I understand your thoughts and feelings, but I might need some time to consider. I’m sorry I can’t give you an exact answer for now."
Arthur Sutton smiled and nodded, responding softly: "Alright."
To him, Janelle’s lack of rejection was already a good progress. He never expected Janelle to agree immediately.
"...Thank you for the afternoon tea." After a smiling thank you, Janelle left the café with her handbag.
Arthur Sutton didn’t linger at Janelle’s shop after settling the bill and drove directly back to the office.
After revealing this secret, Arthur Sutton felt much relieved.
Fortunately, Janelle didn’t dislike him because of this matter.
And the identity of "the child’s biological father" made Arthur feel he had an advantage over Wayne Archer.
That afternoon, as it approached the time for the child to leave school, Arthur Sutton contacted Janelle: [Is the shop busy? Do you need me to pick up the child?]
Janelle saw this message just as she was planning to change out of her work clothes and head to the child’s kindergarten.
However, there were still many customers in the shop at this time, and she still had a lot of work on her hands.
Now that she knew Arthur Sutton was the child’s father, it seemed to give her a different perspective on him.
After hesitating, she replied: [Okay. But the pick-up card is with me, so you might have to swing by the shop first.]
Arthur Sutton replied immediately: [Alright, I’ll come over now.]
Janelle felt at ease letting him pick up the child alone; perhaps it was a sign of her trust in him.
