Chapter 1139: Chapter 1139: Mysterious Boyfriend
There were a few seconds of silence in the air before Arthur Sutton nodded, "Mm."
Even though Janelle Tollman had already suspected it, she was still in disbelief when she saw Arthur Sutton nod in acknowledgment.
"...What on earth is going on?"
This was something Janelle couldn’t figure out. She felt that the interactions between Arthur Sutton and herself were polite and courteous, not like two people who would have a romantic entanglement.
This kind of man was supposed to be the father of her child, and such a relationship should have been very intimate, yet the way they interacted was very distant.
It was very contradictory.
Arthur seemed hesitant to speak, appearing troubled.
Janelle’s reaction was not one of delight or excitement, but rather she expressed concern, asking him, "Why haven’t you shown up for so long, and why have you suddenly found us now?"
Arthur Sutton: "...I’m sorry."
Janelle: "So now you want to take the child away?"
This question sent a tremor through Arthur Sutton’s heart; no wonder Janelle was hostile toward him, it turned out she had always been worried he would take the child away.
Arthur hurriedly explained, "No, you’ve misunderstood, I have no such intention."
Janelle had been confused by her past for too long, and now that she had finally found someone who knew the facts, her emotions were not as composed as usual: "Tell me everything."
"That night, we both drank too much, and that was the first time I met you. By the time I sobered up, you had already left, and only a vague face remained in my memory. After that, I searched for you everywhere."
Janelle: "...What day was it? Where was it?"
Arthur Sutton answered very clearly, "Four years ago, on June 3rd, at The Vermilion Hotel."
The familiar date and location were the time and place her mother had previously mentioned where she had the car accident.
Upon hearing this, Janelle finally understood why there was such a contradictory relationship between her and Arthur Sutton.
Even if they were the parents of a child, they couldn’t be considered close nor completely strangers.
Arthur Sutton: "I didn’t know your name, wasn’t clear about your appearance, and for a long time afterward, I couldn’t find any information about you, as if you had suddenly disappeared from this world."
Janelle: "...So you have been looking for me all along?"
Arthur nodded, "At that auction, I saw Mr. Archer’s painting, and that blurred face in my mind instantly became clear. But when I asked him about the girl in the painting, he didn’t want to reveal more."
Janelle also understood why the child’s father had never visited her during her hospital stay, realizing it was because he simply didn’t know where she was.
Arthur Sutton: "Later, my sister happened to come to your shop and saw Chase, took a photo, and said he looked like me."
Janelle: "So that’s how you found my shop."
Arthur Sutton: "Yes. I didn’t dare to tell you all this because I was afraid you would hate me for it, considering... Our meeting couldn’t be called a happy event, and for a girl, it might have been an unfortunate encounter."
Janelle didn’t have memories of that incident, so she didn’t know why she met Arthur Sutton that night and had a relationship with him.
At this moment, she maintained some skepticism towards anyone’s account, as she wasn’t sure if these words contained elements of deceit.
But for now, she tended to believe that Arthur Sutton didn’t seem to be a bad person.
She remembered her mother once saying that before the accident, she had a boyfriend, and she had always thought the child was that man’s.
She thought that when the man saw her accident, he was afraid of being implicated, so he never appeared again.
So when she suspected Arthur Sutton was the child’s father, she started to believe that Arthur Sutton was that scumbag.
Now it seemed that she indeed misunderstood the man in front of her.
