Chapter 1375: Chapter 1369: It Seems Evander Knows

"No need to wait for the weekend, come back tomorrow night!" Violet Zimmerman’s voice came through the receiver, carrying an unquestionable command. Evander Lancaster thought for a moment. "Fine, I’ll come back after work tomorrow."

In Evander Lancaster’s cold phoenix eyes there was a do-or-die resolve. Since he had already decided to lay everything on the table, sooner or later made no difference. Before ending the call, he said with a half-smile, "You’d better ask Second Uncle to be there tomorrow. After all, he’s one of the parties involved."

Putting down the phone, Violet Zimmerman instinctively looked at Joseph Lancaster beside her. "Joseph, Evander... seems to know..."

Joseph Lancaster’s legs were elegantly crossed as he peeled an orange. A man whose career and family were both going smoothly always looked as if everything was going his way.

Perhaps because he was a year younger than Violet Zimmerman, this man in his fifties looked only about forty. His complexion was fairer than most men’s, especially those phoenix eyes, very similar to the ones his two sons had. The brothers had completely inherited his genes.

"If he knows, he knows. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t. We’re old already; what’s the point in still getting hung up on this?"

"But today..." Violet started, then stopped. After coming back, she had told Joseph Lancaster all of Nathan Moore’s veiled remarks.

Joseph Lancaster had looked just as nonchalant then as he did now. He put the orange segments he’d peeled into Violet Zimmerman’s hand and said with a smile, "I know. Didn’t I just say it? Don’t worry, he’s Evander’s good brother. He won’t go shooting his mouth off outside."

He had dealt with Nathan Moore a few times. Among the four brothers, his scheming ran the deepest; he planned ahead, had a far-reaching vision, and his methods could be ruthless...

He had to admit, Nathan was a successful businessman, and he felt very fortunate that his younger son could be brothers with such an outstanding man instead of enemies.

"But they already know," Violet said anxiously. "Do you think it was Evander who told Nathan, or Nathan who told Evander..."

"Calm down. What difference does it make who told whom?"

Before Violet could finish, Joseph Lancaster cut her off, gently patting her shoulder as he smiled in reassurance. "When the soldiers come, we block them; when the flood arrives, we build a dam. We’ve already walked through half a century of life—are we really still afraid of a few kids?"

Looking into Joseph Lancaster’s gentle eyes, the worry in Violet Zimmerman’s heart seemed to ease a little.

"Evander specifically told us to have you there tomorrow. Do you think he wants to do something to you?" Violet asked anxiously. Joseph lowered his gaze and let out a quiet laugh.

"What’s meant to come will come eventually. What difference do a day sooner or later make?"

More than once, this rebellious son of his had hinted at him between the lines. Although the son was less than respectful toward his father, seeing how smart his child was still brought him comfort.

What virtue or ability did Joseph Lancaster have to deserve, in this life, two such outstanding children—one holding up half of T City’s commercial empire, the other striking out on his own and becoming an excellent medical professional.

To outsiders, his lonely, solitary life might look pitiful, but only he knew that his life, Joseph Lancaster’s life, was complete.

People always say that the hardships of youth are a form of tempering. When he was young, he had wavered and hesitated, he had complained and resented. But as long as he saw those two little toddlers chasing each other around the courtyard, all his grievances and doubts would vanish into thin air.

"Violet, don’t impose your own ideas on the children. We’re old, and they’ve grown up. They’re not going to accept our old ways anymore, so stop insisting. Just say that Evander is already married and has turned President Guo down."
