Chapter 45: Taxes Paid In Blood Pt. 2
As two of the eleven church guards fell to the ground as corpses, the remaining nine began to be overcome with the adrenaline of battle. Five guards went towards Ruby, and the remaining four went head to head against Amara.
Amara took her giant mace and swung it up into the air. The first man to reach Amara saw this giant mace coming down towards his head. The dumb guard sneered, thinking he could handle this mace, so he lifted his sword to block it. As he did so, the man taunted Amara, saying:
"Ha ha, I can’t wait to play with a dark-haired beauty like you when this is over."
Finally, Amara’s giant eight-foot-long mace impacted the man’s sword.
*Snap*
The sword shattered into pieces smaller than the eyes could see, a testament to the strength of Amara’s blow. The mace went past the broken sword, landing on the guard’s head.
*Squelch*
*Splat*
The guard’s entire upper body was crushed like ground meat from the impact. Blood and body fragments flew everywhere. Amara used her armored boot to kick the bottom half of this man at another guard rushing towards her. The crushed guard’s body had a large portion of the spine sticking out of his stomach area. The spine had a sharp broken tip on its end. So when the half-crushed guard’s body hit the second man rushing at Amara, it impaled him in the gut as all of his own entrails began to fall out of his stomach. The heat of his own organs made steam rise up from his body as he collapsed on top of the crushed man that killed him.
Amara, seeing this, laughed and licked the blood off from her mace, saying:
"It tastes like anguish!"
With two of the four guards dealt with, Amara took the initiative to run at another of the guards on her left. Then Amara took her mace and swung it in the air. As the mace was flying through the air towards the guard, it suddenly made impact.

*Bang*
*Splat*
The guard on Amara’s left met his demise to her mace as it turned him into a cloud of blood mist. The last guard to confront Amara was a complete beginner in combat and ran through this blood mist. As he did so, he cried out:
"Ahh, my eyes! I can’t see anything, I can’t breathe."
"Cough"
"Wheeze"
Amara, used to fighting on a battlefield of blood and death, saw this complete amateur and realized that somehow the standards for guards since she left the church had gone down significantly. This seemed weird to Amara. Was the church up to something by only stationing weaklings at this church? Amara decided to investigate what the church has been doing lately after this battle was over.
Amara thought that perhaps Ruby had information on their activities since intelligence and espionage are her specialties. Walking up to the soldier still coughing from the blood mist, Amara did not even bother to use her mace, so she put it away on her back again for future bloodshed. Amara made a unique hand motion and punched the guard in the throat with a smile on her face.
The man found himself saved from breathing the blood from the air into his body, but then he discovered that he could not breathe at all anymore. This scared him because he was hardly even hit in his throat. What did this woman do to him?
"I can’t breathe!"
"Agh, help me, someone!"
After a few more seconds, the man’s face turned purple, and he began to bleed out of his eyes. Then blood came out of his ears. Finally, blood rushed out of the man’s mouth. At the moment of Amara’s hit to his throat, all of the blood in his body immediately began to rush to his head, ultimately ending in his head going:
*Boom*
Amara was covered in brain matter from the unlucky man’s head exploding due to all of his body’s blood rushing to his head all at once. The man considered himself lucky. His last virgin thoughts were that at least he could die as half a man since such a beautiful and enchanting woman touched his body.
Amara’s only thoughts at this moment were: Another simp bites the dust. Amara was no stranger to the look this man held in his eyes as he realized he was going to die. At least the last thing the man saw before he died was something he knew he could never have.
Amara did a slow, sexy walk over to stand by Fate’s side as she observed Ruby using her signature weapon, a razor-sharp garrote wire. A silent weapon for a silent killer. The five guards came at Ruby all at once, but she disappeared into her own shadow. Using her shadow magic, she traveled in the Dark Veins of the world.
The Dark Veins are what connect all of the shadows in the world of Eryndor. This was not just exclusive to the continent of Vale. But as far as those who lived in Vale were aware, their entire world is only as big as the continent of Vale. Only the Adventurers Guild and people like Fate know that Vale is not the end of this world but merely its beginning.
Using the Dark Veins, Ruby appeared behind the first of the five guards. She came up out of his shadow like a black widow spider that sneaks up on her prey while he was unaware that she was there until it was too late, and sadly for this man, it was.
*Swish*
The garrote wire dripped with blood as it cut through the guard’s head like a hot knife through butter.
*Plop*
The man, not even aware of his own death, saw Ruby standing behind his now headless body as his own head hit the ground. He wanted to call out to his comrades:
"Behind you!"
But all that came out of his mouth was a spurt of blood. One of the guards said to his friends:
"Where did she go?"
By this time, reality had caught up with Ruby’s first kill, so they heard the first body hit the ground now headless. Ruby moved quietly on to the next man. One of them discovered Ruby behind their encirclement, but not before Ruby singled the poor man out as her next victim.
