Chapter 30: Hope Ends Academy

After Kathy ran off to find her Prince Charming, Fate looked at Ruby and said,

"Ruby, I’m glad that you treated that prisoner with every bit of respect that he deserves. I’m sure you know I was just joking about killing that man because prisoners have rights. So just make sure that the prisoner can make an appearance when necessary, even if he is a bit stiff from your previous visit."

Ruby nodded her head in understanding, employing her unique ability to twist Fate’s words completely around and come up with something far worse. Ruby would make sure to bring that guy back from the dead and have him attack anyone who comes looking for him, hopefully killing them in the process.

"Don’t worry, Fate. I will make sure his rights are respected at all times."

Looking at Ruby with an amused look on his face, Fate said,

"Ruby, the maintenance of this academy leaves a lot to be desired. In my new commoner academy that we set up in the former knight commander’s home, make sure that the walking pathways are properly maintained."

Hearing Fate’s words, Ruby nodded her head in agreement, while secretly smiling. This is one of the new tasks of the ultra-elite members of Phoenix Rising: to secretly assist Fate and Ruby in creating comedic situations that can be used to humiliate their enemies.

Author’s Note: Looks like Trinity is sharing the secret comedic relief help.

Fate continued to enter Bloomspire Academy after scaring Kathy off. He could not wait to meet Catherine Primrose in the future. That cold and proud woman would love him and his magic. Catherine is someone who Fate suspects that Ruby knows. In fact, Fate felt that all of the MILF villain bosses in Blissful Paradise may already know each other. This would make things easier for getting them on his side.

As Fate and Ruby walked the grounds of Bloomspire Academy, Fate could not help but notice how this place seems to be more opulent than even his ever-growing gold-plated Shadow Spire Citadel. Looking at Ruby and smiling, Fate said,

"Ruby, look at all of the white marble and gems that are inlaid in the walls of this place. That marble alone is worth its weight in gold, not to mention all of these gems inlaid in them. If I want to maintain my noble and arrogant image with nobles and the rich alike, we will need to step up the opulent nature of my own citadel. I refuse to be outshined by this damn academy. So let’s work on getting some black obsidian marble for my home. Black obsidian marble is worth several times its weight in gold because of its unbelievable sturdy nature and ability to aid in the manipulation of mana. If my home is made of this material, then it will rise to the next level."

Ruby considered Fate’s words, then as if sure of something, said,

"Fate, that is not a problem. I can easily acquire this material, as well as gems that rival those on the obscene crown of that loser King Samuel Bloodsworn." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Fate could feel the killing intent in Ruby’s voice as she mentioned the king. As Fate made notes on how to show off more than Bloomspire Academy, they eventually found themselves in the Student Adventurers Guild, an organization that spanned not just the continent of Vale but the entire world of Eryndale. Walking into the Adventurers Guild, Fate could not help but sneer at the sight of all of these students running around to complete quests for a bit of income. These kids risk their lives for a few gold crowns.

Fate has no need to earn money, but these commoners do. In Vale, the currency of one platinum crown is worth one thousand gold crowns. One hundred silver crowns are worth one gold crown, while one hundred copper crowns are worth one silver crown. As Fate walked further into the Adventurers Guild, he saw on the quest notice board a large number of quests to subjugate a growing number of undead monsters that seem to be targeting the soldiers of local nobles under the service of Fate.

As Fate read these notices on the wall, he smiled in amusement. He could guess where these undead came from, but Fate chose to wisely ignore the situation. Looking at Ruby next to him, Fate could tell that she would make a skilled poker player. While Fate continued to read the quest board, a man’s loud screams were heard coming from the reception desk.

"Sam, you have to do something about all of these undead. They are killing all of the local bandits off. What are we students supposed to do to pay for our tuition if we can’t subjugate bandits?"

Sam, a noble-looking high elf, smiled at the student before her and said in a sincere tone of voice, freeωebnovēl.c૦m

"Andy Fillmore, how many times have I told you? It appears as if the adventurers are not being targeted by those undead unless you provoke them first. So just forget about the bandits and go and pick some medicinal plants from the forest. We also have many requests for manual laborers to build new buildings issued by the Duke’s household."

Hearing about the Duke hiring adventurers to do labor, Andy and many other students spit on the floor in disgust at that wretched Duke.

*Ptui*

"Sam, you know that man is responsible for all of the people who have gone missing lately. Crime and poverty in Valoria may be at an all-time low, but missing persons are at an all-time high. I heard from the prince that Fate Grimsever has captured a beautiful maid as a slave and spends every waking moment of the day tormenting her."

Sam silently listened to Andy’s comments on the actions of the local ruling lord. But Sam put on a stern tone of voice and said to Andy,

"Andy Fillmore, how dare you complain about the Duke in the Adventurers Guild. Duke Fate Grimsever has kindly paid for a full remodel of our guild branch. We will soon be able to outshine the regular Adventurers Guild off-campus used by regular adventurers. He is a generous man, and the guild is on his side fully since he has not only cleaned up crime but started a secondary academy called Hope Ends Academy for the poor kids who cannot afford a premier education at Bloomspire Academy."

As Fate listened to the beautiful and voluptuous elf Sam sing praises of his deeds, he realized that a lot of this was news to him. Since when is he paying for a remodel here? Or, for that matter, how did he cut down on crime? Fate looked at Ruby with a dubious look on his face. Normally, Fate would ignore these kinds of things. But how can he ignore the fact that Ruby is spending his money?

Fate looked at Ruby with a dubious gaze and asked her, "Ruby, you are not spending my money on this guild remodel, are you? I’ve approved the academy and hospital for funding, but that’s it. My money is better spent on me and my growing list of enemies."

Ruby smiled at Fate and, with a slightly obsessed tone of voice, said, "Fate, don’t worry. As I said before, all of the funds for the school and all of the other projects I’ve started in your name are being paid for by me. I’m a filthy rich woman, after all, so can’t I pay for my man’s things?"

Fate was dumbfounded for a moment. Then he recalled that all of the MILFs he wanted to recruit were indeed oppressively rich. Not just normal rich, but economy-crashing-with-a-single-word rich.

So, with a proud look on his face and a sense of undeserved accomplishment, Fate said to Ruby, "I’m so lucky to be treated so well by my woman like this!"

Fate was so sincere about not having to spend money on anyone but himself that a single tear formed in his eye, then fell to the ground.

Ruby saw this scene and quickly said to Fate, "Fate, look behind you!"

Fate turned his head to look at what Ruby pointed out, only for Ruby to move faster than any human could with her shadow magic to capture this single tear from Fate before it hit the ground.

*Swipe* was heard as the tear was caught in a suspiciously well-prepared bottle that looked made to capture someone’s tears while using magic to preserve it at the same time.

Then Ruby said to Fate, as she reappeared in her original position as if nothing had happened, "I’m sorry, Fate. I must have been mistaken. There was something in my eye. So, nothing of interest was in that direction."

By this point, the argument between Sam and Andy Fillmore had become very heated.

"I’m telling you, Andy, that Duke Fate Grimsever is a good and righteous man of integrity. Since his new female guards have taken over, crime in the city is at an all-time low. Even more importantly, so are the cases of perverts who dare to target us women. I can actually walk home after dark thanks to the new street lighting that our lord paid for, without the worry that some slaver is going to target me. Haven’t you noticed that all of the slavers have been driven out of the city?"

When Fate heard that the slavers were gone, he was secretly glad. The majority of all slaves in this world are women since it’s easier for men to earn money at a job.

This is a bit of tax money that Fate is happy to give up.

What Fate did not know was that these slavers had not actually been driven off, but very quietly sent six feet under to meet their maker. Their slaves were freed and sent to one of Ruby’s many new underground communities for rehab and treatment so they can reenter society as members of Phoenix Rising.

Finally, Sam seemed to have enough of Andy Fillmore and slapped him in the face. This rude student was sent flying into the air by this slap and landed in the garbage can that conveniently appeared in the corner of the room for him to land in.

Fate’s MILF harem had already formed a covert team of elite assistants to help Fate with his role of being a villain and slapping people in the face. Be sure not to tell Fate about this, though. He just thinks it is his natural luck and ability that makes this happen.

Fate clapped his hands in excitement and said to Sam, "That was a great shot! You got excellent air from that hit."

When Sam heard this voice, the entire guild hall became deathly quiet.

Sam was one of only a few actual people who liked this notorious Duke. Sam began to address him, but as she did, she stuttered, "Du-Du-Duke Grimsever, what brings you to the Bloomspire Academy branch of the Adventurers Guild?"

Fate could feel many hidden murderous eyes on him from the student adventurers in the hall. Many of these kids had lost family members when the city guard was killed off several days ago.

Fate smiled and said to Sam, "Sam, I’ve come today to look around the school that my wallet seems to be paying for. But that’s another matter for later consideration. I’m here today to register as an adventurer so that I can participate in a few monster subjugations when necessary."

What Fate did not say was that he needed to verify if the story of Blissful Paradise was still going to happen if he had not been killed off yet. Fate had the feeling that without his intervention, the forces coming after his life were only going to become even more exaggerated.

Fate decided that he might attend classes at Bloomspire Academy once in a while. He wanted to cause some problems for Nimrod and Maria, and also Kathy Primrose now that she had decided to show up.

Sam looked at Fate as if he was a true weirdo for a moment. She wondered, since when do nobles sign up to be adventurers, especially a Duke?

Sam smiled and put on a firm smile, looking at Fate as she said, "Duke Fate Grimsever, I would be honored to register you as an adventurer. But you will only be able to start out with the rank of an F-grade adventurer, the same as everyone else."

"Please, just call me Fate. As for the matter of my rank, that is fine as well. I’ve no doubt that my rank will rise in the guild soon enough."

The death glares that came at Fate as he flirted with the beautiful receptionist, Sam, only increased after this statement.
