Chapter 107: The Goblin Slayer Has Arrived
Fate entered the Adventurers Guild, determined not to get sidetracked. He had noticed lately that a lot of idiots liked to place themselves in his way, hoping that he would give them a good beating.
While Fate loved to beat others for no good reason, senseless violence needed to be done in moderation, or else it would simply not be any fun anymore.
When Fate got inside the Adventurers Guild, he noticed a lot of people stopped what they were doing and looked at him.
This made Fate—someone who is naturally paranoid by preference—stop for a moment and look around the guild hall.
Then Fate remembered that recently, he had become even more handsome, so, as any villain would do, he convinced himself that this was the reason why everyone was looking at him.
Fate, now knowing why he was the center of attention, walked confidently to the reception desk of the guild.
What Fate failed to notice was the large number of Adventurers in the guild hall wearing the unique color of red that the members of the Faithful liked to wear.
Fate looked around the reception desk for a moment until a man noticed his presence. The man walked up to Fate from behind the reception desk and said rudely to Fate,
"Well, well, if it isn’t Duke Fate Grimsever. What the hell are you doing here? Didn’t you cause enough trouble the last time you came to the guild?"
Fate looked at this receptionist for a moment and did not recognize him, so Fate said to the man,
"Where is the guild receptionist, Sam? She is the woman I would prefer to deal with today. I already filled my quota of idiot beatings earlier."
As if some divine power had called to her, the Adventurers Guild receptionist Sam suddenly showed up behind the rude man talking to Fate at that moment.
Sam tapped her unimportant colleague on his shoulder and said to him,
"Can I talk to you for a moment in the back room?"
The stupid man, blinded by Sam’s beauty and not the deadly look in her eyes, was led away, only for the room they disappeared into to suddenly have its door slammed shut when a blood-curdling scream was heard from inside a few seconds later.
Fate figured that it must be normal guild policy to chew out someone when they are rude to nobility like him. But again, Fate did not realize the growing extent of his own influence; wherever he goes, things have started to forcefully go his way whether those around him want it to or not.
Sam came out of the back room three minutes later, satisfied with her results. It only took her one hundred and eighty seconds to torture someone to death for disrespecting her God, Fate Grimsever, like that. It was a new personal best for Sam. But she knew she had a long way to go if she wanted to make it onto the legendary heretic death leaderboard that Phoenix Rising recently started using to rank its Faithful on how they torture heretics to death.
A heretic to Phoenix Rising is anyone who gets in the way of Fate for any reason, either directly or indirectly. It’s one of Sam’s favorite activities these days; there is something very fulfilling about dealing with heretics.
Sam walked up to stand in front of Fate and smiled, saying,
"Lord Fate Grimsever, how can the student branch of the Adventurers Guild assist you today?"
With a smile on his face, Fate said to Sam,
"I want to take my wives on a quest and also use this as an opportunity to rank up from F-rank adventurers to E-rank adventurers if it’s at all possible."
Sam nodded her head enthusiastically as she smiled at Fate and said,
"Lord Fate, Ruby Valentine came by a few days ago to register your second wife, Amara Sterling, with us, so you don’t need to worry about registering her with the guild."
Fate nodded his head as he thought about Ruby. As expected of his first wife, she always takes care of all the hard stuff for him. Fate was very glad that he encountered Ruby like he did all those months ago. If Fate were to look at Valoria now compared to back then, he felt that his city has never been more peaceful than it is now. Fate just wished that red fog in the sky would disappear soon. It was beginning to make the sunlight take on a blood-red tint, and that screamed to Fate that it might raise a flag for him if not dealt with properly. But Fate was sure that Ruby had things handled.
But little did Fate know that his home territory of The Southern Hampshire Plains is quickly becoming known as The Land of the Rising Blood by the rest of the Kingdom of Westridge.
With a smile on his face, Fate said to Sam,
"Sam, that’s good news. Then I will take a look at the quest board to see what kinds of monsters we can have fun killing together."
Fate walked away from Sam and over to the quest board to see what he could find for quests. His attention was immediately attracted to a notice about the sudden appearance of goblins in his territory. Several small towns had already been raided by them, with the goblins kidnapping a bunch of the local women. Fate frowned as he pulled the notice off the board.
How come goblins never showed up when he played the game *Blissful Paradise* before? It could be possible that the game just missed mentioning their presence. But if these cockroaches are left to fester, innocent women and children could be put at great risk. Fate was by no means a hero, but even he would not turn a blind eye to something threatening women and children who can’t defend themselves like this.
So Fate decided to take this quest. He felt the need to investigate the source of these goblins because he never encountered them in the original game.
Fate walked over to Sam and placed the quest sheet down for her to read.
Sam picked it up and frowned as she read the details. Then Sam said to Fate,
"Fate, we have records of these goblins in our archives, but they were thought to have been wiped out several hundred years ago. No one wants to take this quest because of how easy goblins are to kill, and the quest does not pay much, so it’s only ranked as an E-ranked quest."
Fate frowned. If goblins were wiped out hundreds of years ago, why are they suddenly back now? Even the demon lord Gloria Pasternack would not accept such vile creatures into her demonic ranks.
