Chapter 423: Chapter 425: Breaking the Heavens
Having dealt with so many of them, Su Nian was starting to feel tired. She yawned, pulled a bottle of water from her bag, and planned to take a quick break before continuing her cleanup.
After all, she was going to turn this place upside down, and that would require plenty of stamina.
However, Su Nian glanced in disgust at the charred chunks of flesh littering the ground. The lingering stench was nauseating. Wrinkling her nose, she walked over to a nearby bench and sat down.
Just as she was about to take a drink, a sudden chill ran down her spine.
’I have a feeling someone is out to get me!’
Realizing this, Su Nian, who was already on high alert, grew even more wary.
She feigned taking a drink, holding the bottle up while her eyes darted around.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, Su Nian caught a glimpse of something under her bench.
Through the slats of the wooden bench, Su Nian saw a pair of lecherous, squinted eyes. A fat, red tongue darted out, licking its thick lips with relish.
The sight was both disgusting and bizarre. Most importantly, Su Nian noted that this ghastly thing looked neither human nor animal—just a grotesque, strange creature.
Su Nian’s face turned green with disgust. She instantly lashed out, her hand darting under the bench.
But the ghost was surprisingly agile, vanishing in a flash.
Su Nian scanned the area, but there wasn’t a single trace of it.
’That ghost... how could it have hidden so quickly?’
She checked her surroundings again. This time, Su Nian finally noticed something was very wrong.
The entire zoo was filled with a strange, eerie feeling. And as for that creature just now... it wasn’t so much that it was hiding *under* the bench, but rather that its eyes were *part of* the bench itself.
A bizarre and hair-raising theory began to form in her mind.
’Could it be that this entire zoo... is actually a park made *of* ghosts?’
Unlike a normal ghost amusement park, here only ghosts with a certain status could officially reside in the various enclosures and earn a name for themselves.
’And the ones without status—like the benches, the tables, and that little train I rode earlier—are perhaps just ghosts in disguise?’
Once she figured this out, the anger in Su Nian’s heart swelled uncontrollably.
She had planned to take things one step at a time, but that bench-ghost had well and truly pissed her off.
Su Nian leaped off the bench and started stomping on it. THUMP, THUMP, THUMP.
She kept stomping until the bench was reduced to splinters, then tossed a match onto the wreckage. Amid the crackling flames, she faintly heard a pained shriek, which completely confirmed her suspicions.
The thought made her seethe. In a few swift motions, she flung her suit jacket to the ground, grabbed the two ghosts she had trapped inside, and shook them out, causing a pile of flesh chunks to spill onto the dirt.
The scar-faced male ghost had been in the middle of a heated gossip session with two other ghosts when Su Nian unceremoniously dumped him on the ground.
The chunks of flesh squirmed and slowly reassembled themselves into a human figure. The scar-faced male ghost looked up, confused. "What’s going on?"
"You. Go find all the other ghosts for me!"
"Huh? I’m not so sure about that..."
The scar-faced male ghost still looked dazed. His mind was on the old crone-ghost’s recent promise to set him up with someone, so he was feeling rather reluctant.
"Just go!" Su Nian roared, cutting him off.
The scar-faced male ghost flinched. Cowering, he had no choice but to obediently lead the way.
Su Nian’s tone was harsh, and her slaps were excruciatingly painful.
A moment ago, with just a casual swat, Su Nian had sheared clean off half of the scar-faced male ghost’s shoulder.
He had to reassemble himself with his already pitifully small amount of flesh, making his entire ghostly form a little shorter.
Terrified, the scar-faced male ghost could only lead Su Nian from one location to the next, searching for the other ghouls.
As they walked, he explained, "You’ve probably figured it out by now. This whole place is teeming with ghosts. A rock could be a ghost in disguise. Even the water in the river could be a ghost."
By now, he had led Su Nian to another enclosure. A sign clearly read: Bear Garden.
The scar-faced male ghost was about to offer a few words of caution.
But then he saw Su Nian kick the door. The scar-faced male ghost felt his spirit falter and instinctively recoiled.
He had expected Su Nian’s efforts to be futile.
After all, he had chosen this place specifically. The ghost in the Bear Garden was incredibly powerful, but it was rarely ever in its enclosure.
But who would have thought that after a few kicks from Su Nian, the door would slowly creak open? The other ghosts were stunned. So it turned out this monster could open the doors herself, without any help?
Just then, a fat man came strolling down, yawning. Several large gold teeth glinted in his mouth.
A deep gash on his neck was particularly noticeable, the flesh peeled back and still dripping blood. He paid it no mind, however, and simply glared furiously at Su Nian.
"Who are you?"
However, Su Nian didn’t say a word. She walked right up and delivered a massive slap. She was already strong, but now, fueled by her anger, she put every last ounce of her strength into it.
That one slap was enough to send the Bear Ghost’s gold teeth flying right out of his mouth.
Witnessing this, the scar-faced male ghost trembled and cowered off to the side, terrified of drawing any attention to himself.
However, what they didn’t know was that in the ghost’s eyes, Su Nian was an even more spine-chilling sight.
Su Nian grinned. "Well? Are you going to work for me or not?"
So blunt!
The question was so utterly brazen that the male ghost in front of her just blinked, unable to process what she’d just said.
The scar-faced male ghost was so shocked he let out an audible gasp. He knew this particular ghost was the most rebellious one of all.
The portly ghost said nothing, but his eyes couldn’t help but dart toward the scar-faced male ghost.
The scar-faced male ghost immediately lost his nerve, cautiously trying to shrink behind Su Nian.
But before he could get close, Su Nian slapped him again.
Seeing that the portly ghost wasn’t answering, Su Nian sneered. She didn’t bother waiting for a reply, much less resorting to threats or bribes.
She found a length of rope, expertly trussed him up, and began dragging him along like a dog on a leash.
"Alright. Next."
With that, Su Nian kicked the scar-faced male ghost, forcing him to lead the way. They went from one enclosure to the next, but found the next several empty.
It wasn’t until they reached the deeper parts of the zoo that Su Nian caught two more ghosts.
One was a skeleton that was bleached bone-white but gave off an unbearable stench. The other was a female ghost in red, her face smeared with crimson and her long hair floating around her.
As before, Su Nian banged on their doors, but when she received no response, her patience wore thin and she simply kicked them open. And sure enough, she found the ghosts inside.
When she found the skeleton, it was gleefully powdering its own bones, vowing to be a perfect, snowy white for its public appearance. It hadn’t expected to be caught when only half its body was powdered.
The other half was still a foul-smelling, rotten yellow when Su Nian burst through the door, grabbed its bony frame in under a second, and started dragging it away.
It all happened so fast. The skeleton ghost blinked its eye sockets, not yet comprehending the situation. By the time it came to its senses, Su Nian was already dragging it outside.
