Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Finding Her Noisy
He had his share of complaints about Anne Sutton before, but because of the baby, he instantly started treating her like family.
Chairman Fawcett paid no mind to whether Anne Sutton agreed or not, simply instructing the maids, "From now on, take good care of the Young Mistress."
Nathan Fawcett looked at his father with disdain and said, "You can go now."
Chairman Fawcett glanced at Nathan, then at Anne Sutton, and grinned. "Alright, I’m leaving! This is wonderful! Our Nathan is going to be a dad, and I’m going to be a grandpa!"
He said this as he walked out, and the people who had come with him sighed internally at their chairman’s undignified display.
After he left, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett went upstairs. She put her things down and took a shower.
’She was pregnant now, and her treatment was already different!’
Nathan Fawcett told her to get some sleep.
Anne Sutton cleared her throat. "How can I possibly sleep this early? I’m going to watch some TV. Is that okay? I’ll go downstairs, I promise I won’t bother you."
Seeing her grab her phone and start to head downstairs, Nathan Fawcett said, "Come back! Just watch it here."
"..." Anne Sutton glanced at him. ’Now that she was pregnant, it was only natural they wouldn’t be sleeping together anymore.’
To be honest, she was relieved.
After all, every time they slept together, she was terrified he would suddenly drop dead in the middle of it.
At Nathan Fawcett’s command, Anne Sutton didn’t dare go downstairs. She climbed into bed, leaned against the pillows, and started watching a show on her phone, keeping the volume low.
Nathan Fawcett’s health was poor, and he spent most of his time resting in bed anyway. He simply lay down on his side of the bed.
Anne Sutton glanced at him. He hadn’t looked well the past couple of days, and now he had dark circles under his eyes. It was quite alarming.
No wonder his appearance had nearly scared his mother to tears when he got home.
Anne Sutton asked, "Are you feeling all right?"
"I won’t die," Nathan Fawcett replied.
’What an answer...’
’He might as well have not answered at all.’
But Nathan Fawcett never discussed his health, and since Anne Sutton didn’t understand his condition, she didn’t press him.
The doctors treating Nathan Fawcett were all top specialists, far more skilled than she was. Besides, it wasn’t her field of expertise, so she couldn’t get involved. That’s why she usually stayed out of it.
After their brief exchange, Nathan Fawcett closed his eyes to sleep.
Anne Sutton usually liked to watch medical videos in her spare time.
Tonight, she happened upon an interview.
It was with Dr. Anna Linden of Concord Hospital, a legend in the medical community and Anne Sutton’s personal idol.
Anne Sutton’s ambition to become an outstanding and successful doctor like Anna Linden was what had driven her to this point.
That was why, even if Nathan Fawcett forbade her from working, and even though marrying into the Fawcett family meant she would never have to worry about money, she would never give up her career.
As Anne Sutton listened to the interview, she noticed that Dr. Anna Linden was truly beautiful. frёeωebɳovel.com
’Truly exceptional people really do stand out in every way.’
Every time she watched one of the doctor’s interviews, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but think, ’If only I could become that exceptional one day.’
Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett beside her. Seeing that he was almost asleep, she said, "Oh, right, Nathan."
Nathan Fawcett opened his eyes and looked at her. "What is it?"
Anne Sutton held up her phone, showing him the video of Dr. Linden. "With your family’s resources, you should be able to get an appointment with any doctor, right? This Dr. Linden is an exceptionally skilled physician. Why don’t you have your father ask her to see you? I know she’s very busy and most people can’t get to her, but with your dad’s connections, it shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Nathan Fawcett glanced at her phone. When he saw the person on the screen, he froze for a second, and his eyes darkened.
On the video, the host was asking Dr. Linden about her personal life. "I heard you have a very handsome son, Dr. Linden. With your work being so busy, how do you balance spending time with him?"
Anna Linden smiled. "My son is very mature; he doesn’t really need me to look after him. He loves to travel and recently sent me quite a few photos. I’ve never had to worry much about him."
"That’s so wonderful, I’m envious..."
At that moment, Nathan Fawcett suddenly reached over and turned off the screen of Anne Sutton’s phone.
"..." Anne asked. "What are you doing?"
Nathan Fawcett closed his eyes and frowned. "It’s too loud."
’...’ ’He was the one who told me to watch it in here, and now he’s complaining that I’m being too loud!’
’He’s so difficult to please!’
Besides, Anne Sutton was pretty much done watching anyway. It was comfortable in bed, and she didn’t feel like moving downstairs now.
She lay down and said to Nathan Fawcett, "I’m serious, though. You should talk to your dad about contacting Dr. Linden for you. Maybe you could actually get better."
Nathan Fawcett sneered. "She’s just a doctor, isn’t she? What, is she a god? You think she can just show up and save me? I’ve already given up. Someone like me just lives one day at a time. I’m used to it."
"..." Seeing his defeatist attitude, Anne Sutton rolled over and turned her back to him.
’It’s not like she had done anything to provoke him.’
’She was just trying to give him a helpful suggestion and couldn’t even get a single kind word in return.’
...
In the middle of the night, Anne Sutton woke to find Nathan Fawcett gone from her side. She had no idea where he’d gone.
Her first instinct was to look for him, but then she remembered his attitude from earlier. ’Why should she go looking for him?’
’Besides, she was pregnant now. Her goal was accomplished. What happened to him had nothing to do with her anymore!’
’All she had to do now was wait for the child to be born and become the Fawcett family heir.’
So, she lay back down and went back to sleep.
...
The next morning, when Anne Sutton got up, Nathan Fawcett wasn’t home, but Charles Prescott was.
He was sitting on the sofa and watched her come downstairs. "Morning," he said.
Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard you were pregnant, so I came to see you." Charles Prescott looked at her, his expression unreadable. "So your womb actually came through."
’Just what he was afraid of. He’d been dreading her getting pregnant, and now it had actually happened!’
Charles Prescott was honestly surprised that Nathan Fawcett, with his frail, sickly body, had actually managed to get her pregnant.
Anne Sutton said, "What, don’t tell me you’re still thinking about kicking me out of the Fawcett family, Mr. Prescott!"
"Nathan Fawcett doesn’t seem to be around," Charles Prescott noted.
"...What’s it to you? Does his absence mean you can bully me?"
"I wouldn’t dare!" Charles Prescott said. "The Chairman has given orders. From now on, everyone in this house is to defer to you. After all, you’re carrying the Fawcett family heir in your belly. I’m not that bold, am I?"
"I think there’s nothing you wouldn’t dare, Charles Prescott!" Anne Sutton retorted. "Aren’t you doing it right now, coming here first thing in the morning just to provoke me?"
’He’s never up to any good whenever he shows up!’
Now, whenever she faced Charles Prescott, Anne Sutton knew she couldn’t let her guard down for a single moment.
