Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Good Child

Anne Sutton glanced at the butler, then at Nathan Fawcett. She still hadn’t figured out why Nathan had come over today.

If he was here to talk about divorce, she felt there was no need to try and please him anymore. Even if she cooked for him, he probably wouldn’t be interested in eating.

After all, he already had someone else taking care of him now.

"Does Mr. Fawcett want to eat? If you do, I’ll go make something. But you probably didn’t come to my home just to eat. If it’s about something else, I think we can talk, and then you can leave."

Nathan Fawcett stared at Anne Sutton. "Are you trying to kick me out?"

’She... How dare she!’

’First, she stays away for all these days, and now she won’t even cook a meal for me?’

Anne Sutton said, "I just don’t want to get in the way of your time with Ms. Shields."

The butler looked at Anne Sutton and explained, "Ms. Sutton, you’ve misunderstood. Mr. Fawcett hasn’t been with Ms. Shields these past few days. While you were away, he was all by himself."

Hearing this, Anne Sutton froze for a moment. She looked at Nathan Fawcett. ’He hasn’t been with Stella Shields?’

Anne Sutton stood up and went to the kitchen.

Mrs. Sutton was stir-frying vegetables. As she cooked, she secretly observed Nathan Fawcett.

Since Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett had gotten their marriage license, this was the first time her mother had actually met him.

’He looks so terrifying!’

She could hardly imagine her own daughter had married such a devil-like man.

Mrs. Sutton said to Anne Sutton, "What are you doing in here?"

"I’m going to make a couple of dishes for him." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Mrs. Sutton said, "I can cook. You’ve been working all day, don’t wear yourself out."

Anne Sutton said, "It’s fine. I’ll cook after you’re done."

She started by prepping the ingredients she would need off to the side.

Mrs. Sutton stood to the side, watching Anne Sutton’s deft movements. "Ever since you started working, I haven’t let you cook much! Don’t tell me he makes you cook all the time at the Fawcett family home? Don’t the Fawcetts have servants?"

As she said this, Mrs. Sutton’s eyes welled up.

’To think my precious daughter is suffering such hardship in Nathan Fawcett’s home!’

Even if the Sutton family’s glory days were over, she had always doted on her daughter and rarely made her do chores!

Anne Sutton glanced at her mother and said, "Why are you crying?"

Wiping her tears, Mrs. Sutton said, "I just feel like you’ve been so wronged! First it was Charles Prescott, and now Nathan Fawcett... Anne, your life is so hard."

Hearing her mother, Anne Sutton knew she had misunderstood. "It’s not what you think!"

’It’s just that Nathan Fawcett is a picky eater; he can’t stomach food made by others. It’s not like he’s trying to enslave me!’

Anne Sutton looked at her mother. "I’ll explain later. Why don’t you go get Sharon first?"

Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Okay."

Anne Sutton finished cooking the dishes specially prepared for Nathan Fawcett and brought them out. Seeing this, Sean Sutton said to Nathan, "Mr. Fawcett, please!"

Nathan Fawcett, sitting off to the side, didn’t move.

Sean Sutton looked at him, unsure if he hadn’t heard him or if he had heard and was deliberately ignoring him.

He could only look to Anne Sutton for help.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Come and eat!"

Only then did Nathan Fawcett look at her. "Come help me up."

"..." Anne Sutton stared at the man, walked over, and supported him.

Mrs. Sutton came downstairs with Sharon Sutton. Seeing the way Nathan Fawcett was treating her daughter, her heart ached.

...

The family sat down.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, placed some food on his plate, and said, "Eat."

Nathan Fawcett sat there, eating his meal quietly.

She watched the man and asked, "Is there something you came here to say today?"

Nathan Fawcett was drinking his soup. Hearing her question, he glanced at her and said, "I heard you’re pregnant."

Anne Sutton: "..."

’Holy shit!’

’Does he have me bugged?’

’I just had the check-up today, and he already knows?’

’So that’s why he came here? Because I’m pregnant?’

At these words, the Sutton family also looked at Anne Sutton, their expressions instantly filled with sympathy.

Sharon Sutton glanced at the terrifying man. The moment he arrived, the atmosphere in the house had become dreadful. She couldn’t help but feel relieved. ’I’m so glad I’m not the one who married him!’

’If it had been me, I would have been scared to death by now!’

At the same time, she felt a pang of pity. ’My sister has it so rough, getting pregnant with this man’s child!’

Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton in disbelief and asked for confirmation, "Anne, you’re pregnant?"

Seeing that Sean Sutton was also looking at her, Anne Sutton nodded. "Yes."

No one mentioned it again, but the Sutton family’s attitude could hardly be described as happy.

With Nathan Fawcett present, the meal was an agonizing affair.

After dinner, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. Everyone else had been sent away.

She looked at him and said, "If Mr. Fawcett doesn’t want this child, the agreement can be voided. I know you’re on good terms with Ms. Shields now."

’Otherwise, he wouldn’t have called Stella Shields upstairs that day!’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Voided? Are you saying I should just abandon this child?"

Anne Sutton said, "I just think you probably have a better candidate now."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, not deigning to explain himself, and simply ordered, "Go pack your things. You’re coming back with me."

"..." Anne Sutton said, "So, you do want this child?"

Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett gave her a complicated look. "Of course!"

’How could I not want it?’

Anne Sutton went upstairs, grabbed a few of her personal belongings, and came back down.

Mrs. Sutton was standing at the door, watching her. "Anne, are you really... going to have this child? That Mr. Fawcett doesn’t treat you well at all. If you have his child, there’s no telling how much you’ll suffer in the future. I’m so worried about you."

Seeing her mother had been worrying about her all evening because of Nathan Fawcett’s visit, Anne Sutton couldn’t help but hug her. "Don’t worry, I’m fine! I’ll handle it."

...

After comforting her mother for a while, she went downstairs. Nathan Fawcett was already sitting in the car.

The butler opened the car door, and Anne Sutton got in.

In the car, she remained silent.

But she could feel Nathan Fawcett’s gaze fixed on her.

’He probably hasn’t accepted the fact that he’s going to be a father yet.’

’After all, based on the timing, it must have happened within the first couple of nights they were together.’

When the two arrived back at the Fawcett residence, just as Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett through the door, she saw Chairman Fawcett waiting for them in the living room.

When he saw Anne Sutton, his attitude was very enthusiastic. "Anne, come, sit down!"

Recalling his previous attitude toward her, this 180-degree turn left Anne Sutton feeling a bit unsettled.

She sat down, and Chairman Fawcett said, "I hear you’re pregnant!"

Anne Sutton hadn’t expected the hospital to inform the Fawcett family of her pregnancy so quickly.

Anne Sutton said, "Yes."

Chairman Fawcett said, "Good child, you’ve been through a lot. It’s my fault for misunderstanding you before! From now on, just focus on a healthy pregnancy. Don’t worry, once the child is born, you will be handsomely rewarded."
