Chapter 129: Chapter 129: How to Handle This?
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Ethan, the company comes first. Don’t do this! The shareholders will get the wrong idea again!"
If they found something to use against him, all the arguments she’d made today would be for nothing.
Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. Ignoring her apprehension and concern, he simply asked, "Do you like Charles Prescott?"
Anne Sutton glanced at the man beside her. Seeing that Chairman Grant and Miles Prescott were both walking over, she nodded. "Of course, I do."
’Even though she was sick to her stomach.’
Nathan Fawcett said, "Oh. Then tell me, what is it you like about him? The fact that he married someone else, or that he wants to marry you off to another man?"
"..." Nathan Fawcett’s words pained her.
Anne Sutton lowered her head. "As long as he doesn’t inherit the Fawcett legacy, I’ll do anything."
’So what if I marry Charles Prescott!’
’At worst, we can just make each other miserable!’
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "If this is just about the right to inherit the Fawcett Group, you really don’t have to do this."
’Even though he’d genuinely wanted to strangle her when she said she wanted to marry Charles Prescott.’
’But now, he couldn’t bring himself to let her go!’
Anne Sutton gazed at Nathan Fawcett. "But this is the only way..."
Charles Prescott stood to the side, watching the two of them. ’For some reason, the way Anne Sutton looks at Ethan Linden makes it obvious how much she cares about him.’
’She’s trying to screw me over for Ethan Linden’s sake, so he can just swoop in and reap the benefits.’
’That crazy woman!’
’Watching this, he actually felt a pang of bitterness!’
’Damn it, why has she never looked at me like that?’
’After all these years I’ve been by her side, am I really not good enough for her?’
Nathan Fawcett looked at her, knowing what she wanted to say. But there was no way he could stand by and watch her foolishly get entangled with a scumbag like Charles Prescott.
He lowered his head, leaned in, and pressed his lips to hers...
The directors stood to the side, staring at the scene. They never thought Ethan Linden would actually...
Chairman Grant’s face darkened as well.
’The Fawcett Group was almost in our grasp. What is Ethan Linden doing?’
’Has he gone mad?’
Anne Sutton was screaming internally.
She raised her hands, desperately trying to push the man away.
’She would rather ruin her own reputation by getting together with Charles Prescott, all to keep him from getting dragged into this.’
’But he...’
’What is he doing?’
’What in the world is he doing?’
’By acting like this, he’s made everything she’s done completely pointless!’
She raised her hands to push him away, but found Nathan Fawcett’s arm wrapped around her waist like iron, giving her no chance to escape.
Charles Prescott stood to the side, watching them kiss. He felt completely superfluous.
’Even though everything was shifting in his favor, he found that, in this moment, he wasn’t happy at all.’
’Instead...’
’All he felt was a sharp pain in his chest!’
The kiss lasted for several minutes.
Only when Anne Sutton had given up struggling in his arms did Nathan Fawcett let her go.
Chairman Grant said, "Ethan, what are you doing?"
President Sterling also chimed in, "Mr. Linden, this is simply..."
Miles Prescott merely smirked.
’He’d thought the situation was unsalvageable, but he never expected Ethan Linden to...’
President Sterling seized the opportunity. "Everyone, you see? The one involved with Anne Sutton isn’t Charles, it’s this Ethan Linden! A man who goes after his own sister-in-law—is someone like that truly qualified to inherit the Fawcett Group?"
Nathan Fawcett glanced at the chubby man. "I’m going to marry Anne Sutton. Charles Prescott wants to marry her? He’s not worthy!"
Staring at the man, Anne Sutton’s head was buzzing.
’He’s lost his mind!’
’He’s really lost his mind!’
’It’s over. Everything the Fawcett Family has is gone!’
’She had thought Ethan Linden’s return was her only hope of getting revenge on the Prescott men.’
’Just great!’
’After a stunt like this, no one will ever trust him again!’
’And inheriting the Fawcett legacy? That’s completely impossible now!’
Upon hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Charles Prescott said, "How could I possibly compete with Second Uncle? I wouldn’t dare."
’Ethan Linden was serving himself up on a platter to clear my name. I couldn’t have asked for more.’
’At least now all these directors know who is more suitable to inherit the company.’
’Even Chairman Grant must be speechless now.’
Chairman Grant looked at Nathan Fawcett. He couldn’t believe it. He had just been inside arguing that Charles Prescott should be forced to resign, and now he was hearing this from Nathan Fawcett.
He walked over to Nathan Fawcett. "Anne is still your sister-in-law, Ethan. People will ridicule you for this."
"There’s no need to persuade me. My mind is made up."
President Sterling walked over with a smug grin. "Everyone can see what kind of person Mr. Linden is. When Chairman Fawcett passed away, you didn’t even return to pay your respects. And now that you’re back, you’re trying to steal your own sister-in-law. If we actually handed the Fawcett Group to someone like you, the old Chairman would be rolling in his grave. But I suppose, having made such a decision, you won’t have the audacity to keep fighting for the company, will you? After all, you’ve made your choice."
Nathan Fawcett glanced at the men allied with Miles Prescott, led by President Sterling. ’Who knows how many people he’s bribed behind the scenes.’
Nathan Fawcett said, "Rest assured. I want Anne Sutton, and I want the company."
After speaking, he glanced at Anne Sutton, grabbed her by the arm, and walked away, leaving the dumbfounded board members staring at each other.
Chairman Grant’s expression was as black as thunder.
Anne Sutton was pulled along by Nathan Fawcett. Following behind him, she cried out, "Ethan Linden!"
’He’s really lost his mind!’
Nathan Fawcett walked ahead, ignoring her.
Anne Sutton said, "Let go of me! Please? We need to talk properly."
Nathan Fawcett didn’t stop pulling her until they reached the office door. Only then did he turn to her and ask, "What do you want to talk about?"
He was still furious, his chest tight with pent-up anger as he stared at her with a cold, detached gaze.
Anne Sutton said, "Go talk to Chairman Grant. He’ll support you as long as you and I aren’t together. Please, don’t be so stubborn, okay?"
Nathan Fawcett sat on the sofa and looked at Anne Sutton. "And what? Let you get together with Charles Prescott?"
"I don’t even like Charles Prescott. It’s just... the company is what’s important, isn’t it? You can’t throw away the company just for me! After the scene you just made, Chairman Grant will never support you again."
Nathan Fawcett stared at Anne Sutton. "Let me tell you something. If you even think about leaving me again, I wouldn’t want the Fawcett Group even if it were a gift."
’He couldn’t believe that today, she had tried to get together with Charles Prescott all over again.’
’He knew she had her reasons, but he was still genuinely upset.’
’After all, she had only just promised yesterday that she would be with him!’
Anne Sutton stared at the man. "Why? Why are you being so reckless? What about me is worth all this?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at her, raised a hand to her cheek, and stroked it gently. "Just be good and stay by my side. I’ll take care of the company’s business. If I dared to let Charles Prescott know we’re together, then I obviously have a way to handle it all."
Even though he said that, Anne Sutton was still worried. "But things are such a mess now. How are you possibly going to fix this?"
