Chapter 128: Chapter 128: I Haven’t Agreed to Let You Marry Him

Anne Sutton looked at her own father. He really knew how to sling mud at her.

The way he put it, she was just some love-crazed fool who’d even had an abortion for Charles Prescott.

She glanced at Nathan Fawcett. He was sitting there, staring at her coldly.

’He probably...’

’...believes it too!’

’Of course he does!’

But it didn’t matter. Let them think she was a love-crazed fool!

Chairman Grant looked at Charles Prescott and said, "Charles, were you really with Anne before?"

Charles Prescott glanced at Anne Sutton and was about to speak when Sean Sutton interjected, "Of course it’s true! He even came to my house and said he would marry Anne. It’s just that later..."

Sean Sutton didn’t finish his sentence.

He was afraid that if he said too much, Miles Prescott would be displeased.

Not that Miles Prescott wasn’t already displeased!

Chairman Grant said, "How long has Nathan been gone? And you’re already involved with your own aunt-in-law. You have no respect for Nathan at all! I never would have thought you were this kind of person! And if that wasn’t enough, you even slandered Ethan Linden, claiming he was involved with your aunt-in-law."

Chairman Grant was protective of Ethan Linden, so he naturally wouldn’t miss this opportunity to condemn Charles Prescott.

Anne Sutton watched the scene unfold. Although things hadn’t gone as planned to expose Charles Prescott...

’...at least people won’t believe I have a relationship with Ethan Linden!’

She was a widow. Anyone associated with her would have their reputation tarnished.

But if possible, she would rather let Charles Prescott take the fall than watch him attack Ethan Linden like this!

Charles Prescott stared at Anne Sutton, not expecting her to say all this today.

He took a deep breath and said, "Yes! I admit it. I’ve been in love with her for years. When she got together with my uncle, I was heartbroken. After my uncle passed, I wanted to take care of her, which is why I did such things. Dad, it’s my fault. I was immature. I wronged Anne, and that’s why she hates me so much today. I should make up for my mistake. I’m willing to marry her!"

When Charles Prescott said this, everyone’s eyes went wide.

Anne Sutton’s eyes went wide too!

’Holy shit!’

’He’s actually saying he’ll marry me!’

’In front of all these people?’

Anne Sutton never expected Charles Prescott to make such an unpredictable move.

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Since you like me so much, you won’t refuse if I marry you, will you?"

She was willing to tarnish her own name just to clear things up with Ethan Linden.

’So what if I marry her at this point?’

President Sterling was also a bit startled by the scene, but he was on Charles Prescott’s side, so he naturally spoke in his favor. "Charles has always been a responsible person. His willingness to marry Ms. Sutton is a sign of him taking responsibility."

Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, watching Anne Sutton. He felt a dull ache in his chest.

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and realized he was forcing her hand.

’Either I marry him, or...’

’...I have to admit I was lying!’

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott and gave a devil-may-care smile. "You’re really willing to marry me?"

She looked as if she were genuinely happy.

When it came to acting, Anne Sutton was very convincing.

Chairman Grant, sitting to the side, watched this and said to Miles Prescott, "President Prescott, with your son acting like this, do you think he’s still fit to manage the Fawcett Group?"

Chairman Grant was a traditional man.

Seeing that Charles Prescott was actually going to marry Anne Sutton, he naturally couldn’t stand it!

Miles Prescott looked at his son and said, "You unfilial son! How could you do something like this!"

Charles Prescott said, "Dad, I’m sorry. I have been unfilial!"

After speaking, he stood up, walked over to Anne Sutton, and pulled her out of the conference room by the arm.

Anne Sutton didn’t struggle, following Charles Prescott out of the room.

Nathan Fawcett was still sitting inside.

The meeting continued.

Chairman Grant said, "Since it has come to this, it’s proven that Ethan and Anne Sutton have no relationship. He can inherit the Fawcett Family estate now, can’t he? I will arrange for the lawyers to handle the rest. As for Charles Prescott... he is no longer qualified to represent the Fawcett Group. Make him resign from the CEO position as well!"

President Sterling defended him, "They’re just young. He and Anne Sutton were engaged to begin with. If you think about it, it was Nathan who stole her away back then. You can’t blame Charles for this."

Chairman Grant said, "Mr. Sterling, don’t be such a hypocrite. That’s not what you were saying about Ethan Linden just now."

Blocked by this retort, President Sterling was left speechless!

Sean Sutton, standing to the side, asked, "Can I go now?"

Everyone glanced at him but no one paid him any mind, so he had no choice but to walk out the door.

...

Chairman Grant looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Ethan, we are all very happy that you could come back. We will all support you from now on."

Miles Prescott sat to the side, looking at Ethan Linden. With Anne Sutton pulling a stunt like this today and making such a mess of things, he could only watch as Ethan Linden took power.

Nathan Fawcett stood up. "We’ll talk about this later."

With that, he walked out the door...

The others watched him go, a little dumbfounded, not understanding what he meant.

...

Anne Sutton was dragged out of the conference room by Charles Prescott.

She looked at the man and said, "Charles Prescott, are you insane?"

Charles Prescott looked back at her. "Didn’t you want to marry me? I’m marrying you. Aren’t you happy?"

Anne Sutton pulled her hand back. "The sight of you makes me sick."

"Then what are you going to do?" Charles Prescott said tauntingly. "You’re the one who said you wanted to marry me, that you liked me... Now everyone believes it, and so do I! If I can’t have everything from the Fawcett Family, I’m willing to have you. What, did you take your lie too far? Regretting it now?"

"What do I have to regret?" Anne Sutton said. "I couldn’t ask for more than to marry Mr. Prescott."

Charles Prescott said, "I hope you mean that!"

’Anyway, Father would never want me to be with Anne Sutton.’

’This is perfect!’

’At least now I don’t have to hide my relationship with her anymore!’

Charles Prescott said, "Let’s go! It’s time for lunch. We’re going to eat."

’Even though things at the company are a total mess right now, but...’

’...why wouldn’t I take the chance to have this woman eat with me?’

’Besides...’

’Even Ethan Linden likes her. That’s something I didn’t expect.’

Anne Sutton followed Charles Prescott. Just as the two were about to enter the elevator, Nathan Fawcett walked over and said, "Stop."

Anne Sutton froze for a moment, then turned to see Nathan Fawcett standing right there.

Behind him were the shareholders from the meeting, who had just followed him out of the conference room.

When Anne Sutton saw him there, her heart skipped a beat. ’What is he doing here looking for me at a time like this?’

’I went to all this trouble to ruin Charles Prescott’s reputation, and now he’s about to be fired. He’s not going to do something stupid again, is he?!’

Nathan Fawcett had already walked over and was standing in front of Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton looked at him and shook her head. "Ethan!"

’I want to be with him, but I don’t want to affect his inheritance of the Fawcett Family estate because of me.’

’I hope he can understand what I’m thinking!’

Nathan Fawcett stared at her. Seeing Charles Prescott’s hand still on her shoulder, he reached out, pulled her over to his side, and asked, "You want to marry him?"

Anne Sutton said, "This is what he owes me."

Nathan Fawcett stared at her and said, "I haven’t given you permission to marry him!"
