Chapter 127: Chapter 127: Sean Sutton’s Testimony
’She’s insane!’
He never thought Anne Sutton was actually this crazy!
Did she really want to take him down with her?
How could she say these things here?!
Miles Prescott quickly jumped in to defend Charles Prescott. "You truly are a vicious woman! You had an abortion and got rid of Nathan’s child, and we never held you accountable. And now look at you, spreading rumors here just to force my son to marry you! What are you really after?"
After speaking, he stood up and said, "Everyone, you all know what kind of person I, Miles Prescott, am. My father has also held Charles in high regard all these years. Charles has never done anything to wrong Ms. Sutton. Sean Sutton’s company has been struggling, and it’s always been our Charles helping him out. He has done everything he possibly could for this woman, yet I never imagined she would pull something like this in public. Even if she is Nathan’s wife, I can no longer tolerate her ruining my son’s reputation like this. My only choice is to call the police and let them handle this."
President Sterling said, "A woman like her really should be punished! To think she’d claim Charles likes her! With Charles’s standing, what kind of girlfriend couldn’t he find? Why would he want to be with her?"
Charles Prescott sat to the side, and when he heard his father talk about calling the police, he did feel a bit worried.
But Anne Sutton had started it!
He could barely save his own skin right now, so he couldn’t worry about her!
Nathan Fawcett sat nearby, looking at Anne Sutton, and asked, "You’re saying... Charles Prescott forced you to abort Nathan’s child back then?"
Anne Sutton nodded. "Yes. After Nathan passed away, they were eyeing the child in my womb like tigers. I had no choice but to pretend to be with Charles Prescott. After the Chairman passed away, he forced me to get rid of the baby. My baby could have been born safely. It was them. They’re the ones who made me lose my child."
As she spoke, she looked at Miles and Charles Prescott, her fingers clenched tightly together.
Hatred surged within her!
Hearing this, President Sterling said, "That’s complete nonsense! You disregarded the child’s safety and insisted on running back to the Sutton Family, which is how you lost the baby. And now you have the nerve to blame President Prescott and Charles. Sean Sutton was the one who told everyone about this! What, are you saying your own father is lying?"
When the incident with the child happened, Miles and Charles Prescott had deliberately made Sean Sutton spread that story so no one would suspect them.
Because he was Anne Sutton’s father, everyone believed the loss of the child was an accident.
No one pursued the matter further.
Chairman Grant said, "In that case, let’s call Sean Sutton over and have him clarify things. That child was Nathan’s. If it really was aborted deliberately, this matter definitely needs to be investigated thoroughly."
If it turned out the Prescott father and son were behind it, they certainly couldn’t be let off the hook so easily.
Miles Prescott said, "Then make the call. Have him come over. I’d like to get to the bottom of this myself."
They quickly called Sean Sutton and told him to come over.
While they waited for him, Anne Sutton sat to one side. Nathan Fawcett sat there, staring at her.
Anne Sutton lowered her head. Thinking of her father, she didn’t know if he would tell the truth.
’But his relationship with Charles Prescott hasn’t been great lately, and he knows Charles won’t genuinely help him. He shouldn’t act the same way he did before, right?’
Anne Sutton sat in her chair, feeling extremely anxious.
Nathan Fawcett also sat there watching her.
About forty minutes later, Sean Sutton finally arrived.
He walked in behind Henry Underwood, startled to see so many people in the conference room, and even more shocked to see Nathan Fawcett sitting there.
President Sterling said, "Sean Sutton, you’re just in time!"
Sean Sutton said, "I’m not sure why you all asked me to come here."
"Your daughter says Charles Prescott forced her to abort her child. You tell us, is that what happened?"
Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, gazing at Sean Sutton.
Sean Sutton’s scalp tingled under his intense stare.
He remembered what he had told Nathan Fawcett back when the incident occurred...
He had said that Anne Sutton wanted to get rid of the child herself.
’If I tell the truth now, Nathan Fawcett will probably kill me!’
"Dad," Anne Sutton began. "At a time like this, I hope you can be honest. This is Ethan Linden. He’s Nathan’s younger brother. As long as you tell the truth, he will back you up. You don’t have to be afraid of certain people. I just hope you can tell the truth. I’m begging you as your daughter, can you do that?"
Sean Sutton looked at Anne Sutton’s expectant gaze, then glanced at Nathan Fawcett. He saw Nathan Fawcett sitting there, expressionless...
If he hadn’t said what he did back then, he could still be honest now. But looking at Nathan Fawcett, he was truly terrified...
Charles Prescott, sitting nearby, also clenched his fists tightly.
Although he had warned Sean Sutton, Charles Prescott truly couldn’t guess what he would say.
’What if Sean Sutton tells the truth...’
Miles Prescott looked at Sean Sutton and said, "Mr. Sutton, we’ve been like brothers for so many years and know each other inside and out. If you have something to say, just say it directly. If the child really had something to do with our Prescott Family, you can say that, too. In front of everyone, you don’t need to protect me."
He sounded very reasonable and understanding.
Sean Sutton looked at Miles Prescott, but he was all too familiar with that look in his eyes.
He and Miles Prescott had been ’brothers’ for many years, and Miles knew everything about him.
Including all his secrets!
If he really did something to betray the Prescott Family, his own secrets would be exposed.
He said, "Back then, it was Charles Prescott who said he wanted to marry my daughter. He and Anne were engaged, and the two of them had always been close. Later, out of spite, Anne married Nathan Fawcett. After Nathan passed away, the two of them got back together, and Anne wanted to get rid of the baby. I’m the one who went with her to the hospital. I admit, I was deluded at the time. It’s just... my daughter and Charles Prescott had been together for so many years, and I really hoped she would have someone to take good care of her. If I had known that Charles wouldn’t be willing to marry her later, I wouldn’t have let her make such a foolish decision."
Hearing this, the color returned slightly to Charles Prescott’s face.
’Although...’
’Although admitting he had a thing with Anne Sutton would affect me, it’s at least justifiable under the circumstances.’
’As long as he doesn’t bring up the truth about the baby, it’s fine!’
Anne Sutton stared at her father, unable to believe it. He knew perfectly well that aborting the child hadn’t been her decision.
And yet he could still push all the blame onto her!
Anne Sutton cried, "Dad! Can’t you just tell the truth?"
Sean Sutton said, "I am telling the truth! Anne, I hate it too. I hate that Charles Prescott won’t marry you. But... even if you like him that much, the man doesn’t like you, so you shouldn’t force it! Dad will find you a better man in the future. Anyone would be fine, just not a scumbag like him, okay?"
The way he said it, he sounded like a good father who cared deeply for his daughter!
As if everything he did was a difficult but necessary choice.
