"I am so sorry, but I missed your names?" I say politely, looking at the parents.
"Oh, sorry! My name is Morgan and this is my mate Brandon. We were the Gammas of the old Silver Mist pack." She answers with a small smile. Mira sulks because the attention is not on her right now, and it takes everything in me to not smirk at her. I know what games she is playing. The same ones from my old pack played.
"We would never dream of throwing Mira out when she just got here. But I have warned her - one misstep and she is banished. She is not mated to Maze anymore. I am. And I will not tolerate any advances towards my mate." Morgan nods in understanding, but her father furrows his eyebrows.
"Surely our girl is still Maze’s mate. She was his first mate. And now she is back." Maze shakes his head.
"It doesn’t work like that uncle. She died and severed our mate bond. She is not my mate anymore." Brandon looks at aunt Abby.
"But they both died more times than one, and their bond is intact." I nod as understanding dawns upon me.
"Did they ever lose their counterpart?" I ask sweetly, and he shakes his head.
"Then that is the reason they are still mates. Mira does not have her wolf anymore. Selene retracted her, and left Mira as human." Brandon and Morgan both look at their daughter, who shrugs in turn. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Why do you not smell human?" Morgan asks, puzzled and Mira shrugs again. She stands giving me the evil stare.
"I want to go home." She says instead of answering any of their questions. Both of her parents look at Maze and I, and we both nod in approval.
They walk out after their daughter, still asking her all sorts of questions.
"I have mind-linked Amber with the presence of Mira. She says she has spoken to her mates and one of them is coming here to stay with her for the time being. She won’t leave as long as Mira is in the pack." Aunt Abby says. Maze sighs into my back. We both know this means trouble. She is going to do everything in her power to split us up, probably trying right now to convince her parents I am a mean girl and bullying her to stay away from Maze. I hope she leaves soon.
Maze
Mira has been staying here a week now, and she has been causing more trouble than I could ever imagine. She is trying with everything in her power to split up me and Kiara, and now I have fucked up so much I think Kiara will reject me. We have not spoken for the better part of three days, and what makes it worse?
Amber, Mom, and dad have not spoken to me either. I know I fucked up the moment I opened my mouth and I have no idea what to do to remedy it. Kiara has been sleeping in her old room here at the packhouse, and Mira has been trying so hard to push herself between us. I want to kill her, but I can’t do that.
Especially not when she is human. But the problem is not really her, it’s me. I fucked things up between my mate and I, and I need to make it up to her. Although I am not sure how to do it just yet, I need to speak to her at least. I have been sleeping in my office ever since Kiara moved out three days ago, and I have not seen her.
Neither have I looked for her, because I wanted to give her space. Well, Amber told me - through her mate, that I am a giant asshat and should have talked to Kiara days ago and now she thinks I am mad at her and will reject her. That is at least what is being said in the pack. Something I am sure Mira started.
I go on the hunt for my mate, knowing this is going to be a one chance thing. I should have thrown Mira out on her ass, just as I most wanted to when she came here a week ago. I groan to myself. Havoc has been furious with me as well, and nagging me to go find our mate, but I have been too stubborn and idiotic to do so. Now it might be too late. I think back to Selene’s words, and I silently apologize to her and Inari. I did the one thing they told me to not do - I doubted my mate bond with Kiara.
Three Days Ago
Things have been strained ever since Mira came back. The pack is asking if she is going to be my Luna afterall, and seems confused whenever I tell them no. She is telling people that Kiara is bullying her to stay away from me, and that we really want to be together. It has turned the mood against Kiara, which is taking its toll on her. She just wants to be accepted, and now she is being alienated by the snake to my ex mate. I am trying to help her, but the tension between us grows over the days.
Today it reached new heights, and I acted like a moron.
I am coming back to the packhouse, where I ask Kiara where she is. She links me back, but her mind-link is all flustered and confused. I run up to our room, where a guy hurriedly leaves, putting his t-shirt over his head. He sees me and smirks. While running the other way. I rush into the room, where Kiara is standing in nothing but a towel, her hair wet and her face all red.
"What the actual fuck is going on here?" I ask angrily.
"Maze. This is not..."
"Spare me, Kiara! I saw him leave." I interrupt and she closes her mouth, her eyes blazing with anger.
"Are you going to hear me out or not?" She asks back just as angry, but I snort. What the fuck is there to hear? She is cheating on me with nobody from my own pack. How the hell can she explain that?
