"Mira was right." I just say, turning to leave. My heart is aching so bad, and tears press on in my eyes.
"Mira was what now?" Kiara asks, crossing her arms when I turn back to face her.
"She was right. I didn’t want to believe her, but she told me she thought you were cheating. She has seen you sneak around with someone in the packground." Kiara growls fiercely.
"And you don’t stop to think that this is something she has set up? He was in here when I came out of the shower for Goddess sake!"
"HA! And I should believe that? He was pulling on his t-shirt. Goodness, I have been a fool."
"You know what, Alpha asshat. I am the one who is the fool. I thought we were going to be a team! But you believe that snake over me - your mate!" She stomps into the closet, reemerging a few seconds later. "YOU WOULD HAVE FELT IT IF I WAS CHEATING YOU STUPID PRAT!" She runs past me, and when I grab her hand to apologize, because she is absolutely right and I have not felt anything, she whirls around and slaps me across the face with such force I reel back letting her go. She runs away, breaking down and I feel terrible at once. I jumped to conclusions, and I let my fragile ego and insecurities go out on the one person I shouldn’t.
On the grounds, I run into Amber, who shoots me a dirty look before turning to leave. I call her out, and she quickly turns around to shout at me, but I hold my hands up in surrender.
"I am trying to find Kiara, to apologize. I have been such an idiot, and I need her to hear me apologize before she rejects me." Amber closes her mouth for a second, closing her eyes as well and probably calling on the Goddess for strength to handle her twin’s idiocy. freewebnσvel.cѳm
"I am actually looking for her myself. I have not seen her today and she is nowhere to be found." Amber answers with a sigh. "And she doesn’t want to reject you, Maze. She is heartbroken that you could ever think she would cheat." She punched my arm, but my mind was far away. Dread fills my stomach and heart. Amber can’t find Kiara either.
’Kiara, where are you?’ I ask in a mind-link, but she doesn’t answer. I try to reach her again and again, but something seems to be blocking my attempts to reach her.
Amber senses my panic, and puts her hands on my shoulder shouting my name until I finally look at her.
"She’s not here." I say.
"What?"
"Kiara! I can’t reach her through mind-link."
"Is she blocking you?" I shake my head, although I would have understood if she did, but this is not a blockage.
Out of the corner of my eye I see Mira standing a few feet away, with a smile on her face and happiness in her eyes. I instantly know. She did something to my mate. Amber follows my gaze, her eyes turning dark when she sees Mira staring at me with greed and lust. I want to hurl. But I need to know what happened to Kiara.
I gesture for Mira to come over to us, telling Amber silently to let me speak. She is not happy with it, I can see that, but she must have had the same thought as me, because she presses her lips together.
"Mira, I was looking for Kiara, but I cannot seem to find her. Do you happen to know where she is?" I ask politely and casually. Mira’s eyes darken with anger.
"Why are you looking for that whore? She is nothing and never will be, Maze! I thought you were over her?" Her eyes look at me suspiciously, and my gut feeling intensifies. I shrug good naturally.
"I wanted to tell her to leave the pack, but I can’t do that when I can’t find her and I don’t want to drag out the pain." I say, again silently telling Amber to shut up! I need to bait Mira to tell me what she did. She gives me an adoring smile, again sending me to nausea city.
"Well, don’t fret, baby. I made sure she’ll never come between us again." I raise an eyebrow and cross my arms. She sighs dramatically and looks at Amber, who is not concealing her contempt for her former best friend. "Run along, Amber. This is a pack business between the Alpha and Luna." Mira says with a shooing wave of her hands, Amber just crosses her own arms.
"I rank higher than you ever will, Mira Rose, so either you fucking tell me where my sister-in-law is, or so help me Moon Goddess, I will drag it out of you by force." Mira scowls looking at me pleading. I shrug. I am not responsible for my sister and her words.
"Alright! I let her mate take her back to her own pack. She is drugged, so she will not know what happened before she is back, mated and marked by him." Everything runs cold down my spine.
"YOU DID WHAT?" I explode, Havoc livid and wanting to come out. She tries to reach for my arm, but I recoil. She is more deranged than I thought.
"She is gone, Maze. We can be together now." I mind-link Leon and Kristian to take Mira to the dungeons, and my Gamma’s to meet me at the border. I know roughly the direction to uncle Benjamin’s pack. We need to save her!
When Leon and Kristian grabs Mira and drags her off kicking and screaming, I turn on my heels and rush to find my mate. Amber follows me, shifting with me and running at great speed. Overhead we are joined by Blaze, who came the day after we met with Mira and Mason. He flies over us, and Amber mind-links he’ll look for Kiara from above. Fuck!
