Chapter 170: Chapter 170 Cleaning, Honoring and Mourning
Amber’s POV
It’s been almost four weeks since the battle of the Dragon Lands. We have been cleaning ever since that night, trying to rebuild the things that were broken and consol the families that have been affected. I took over most of the duties, and Blaze led the cleaning, looking for enemy bodies to burn, but it seems my outburst of power disintegrated them all. Nonetheless we keep looking. We are not about to let one slip under our fingers and ruin another great day.
Maze went home to the pack a couple of weeks ago, and dad came back. It seemed to speed up the healing process for mom to have her mate by her side. Blaze has been wonderful to give me all the time with Chase as I need, seeing as he was hurt so badly and only has been out of bed for the last couple of days.
A lot of families from all over the Kingdom have been traveling to the castle and nearby town after the battle, seeking help or just curious about the reform we are going to present soon.
We sent King Mesus and Daron out on their last journey back to their respective birthplaces to be buried with grace. We, of course, paid for the whole thing, and sent guards with them both to be protected all the way to their last resting place. With the burial squad was also an announcer, who put up the declaration of their bravery in the battle, as well as the proclamation that the four quarters will be joined under one rule - ours. There will still be local rulers, which I guess we will have to find sooner rather than later. Queen Adalia has two sons, and wil time they will take their father’s place, but for now she will be the everyday reigning Royal in the North. As for King Daron, he was mateless and had no siblings, so for now we are sending a representative to the South to help us until a permanent solution can be found.
Melody and Elina have been wonderful in helping me, while still helping the healers. There were a lot of wounded amongst our people, and they all deserved the best treatment. Which their Princesses gave them. They really won over the hearts of all they treated these past four weeks. And I have heard the mood towards me and the girls are turning - instead of being an outsider bringing in odds laws, traditions and new ways of thinking, I’m now the savior of the Dragon Lands with my mates and daughters. Funny how the mood of the public can change overnight.
Today we are going to speak to the public for the first time as the rulers of a united Dragon Lands, present the new laws and speak about the ones we lost and the plans we have regarding honoring them. We know most of those who joined us from the other quarters were regular men and women, wanting to help and save their homes. We also know Rose’s organization is still out there, working in the shadows in her vision of a ruler more prone to keeping the dragons pure.
"Baby, are you alright?" Chase asks, coming into my office fresh out of the shower. I also have some news for my mates, something I found out during the days of cleaning, and national mourning. Everything has been quiet because the whole nation of dragons has been in a state of shock, and we announced two weeks of mourning for the loss of the two Kings, and countless brave people. This was two weeks ago, when we realized we needed to do something to slow down the questions, audiences and visitors to our castle and town. People took to it immediately, only doing what was absolutely necessary, shops keeping opening hours to a few a day, so everyone could still get their necessities.
"Yeah, sorry. My emotions are all over the place today." I answer, looking at my handsome fiancé with hungry eyes. He laughs when I give him the elevator look for the third time. Damn he’s delicious.
"Amber!" He laughs, snapping his finger at me. "Eyes up here. What’s gotten into you lately? Blaze says you’ve been practically insatiable ever since the battle." I roll my eyes. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Is he complaining?" I ask, crossing my arms in fake anger.
"No, I’m not complaining. But I am wondering. Is there something you need to tell us, little moon, because your change in moods, cravings and morning sickness has not been hard to see." Blaze says, coming into my office as well with amusement shining in his eyes. I pout. That’s not fair! He already guessed it, and he didn’t even tell me.
"You are such a spoilsport." I tell him, and they both go around my table and kneel on either side of me.
"How long have you known, sweetheart?" Chase asks, giving this adorable puppy dog eye. I smile at their antics.
"I have known for a couple of weeks, after consulting the Royal doctor."
"Why didn’t you tell us?" Blaze asks, his hand on my stomach stroking it gently. Chase nods in agreement to his brother’s question.
"Because Chase was still in the hospital, and we had a lot going on ourselves arranging the mourning, announcement, and today." I say, shaking my head when they both dive in and kiss my stomach at the same time. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"Okay, okay. Enough of this. Why didn’t anyone tell me we were taking a shower, hm? I could have joined, and.." I don’t get to finish before Blaze claims my lips in a passionate kiss, and when he’s done Chase is not far behind repeating the passion.
"Because then we would be late for our own event, baby." Chase says, and kisses my pout. I’m hella annoyed and horny at the moment, but they don’t seem to fall for any of that.
"Come one, My Queen. We need to get going if we are to meet the people today." Blaze says taking my hand and helping me to my feet. I narrow my eyes then, and put a finger in each chest.
"No going overboard protective mates - I’m not sick or dying. I’m pregnant, and still capable of doing things on my own." They laugh, and I know they will definitely go overboard on the protective and possessive scale. If I have to be honest with myself, anything else or less would have disappointed me.
Outside we go to the pavilion set up to create some shade in the sun. There’s a lot of them all around, and we sit down in our chairs. Today is the marking of the end of national mourning, and we are celebrating life with a market. Everyone from all over the Kingdom is invited, and there’s already a lot of people. They step to the side respectfully and bow or courtesy as we go past them. The girls are holding my hands, and smiling at everyone. Some of those they healed are there, and they wave to the girls, who gladly return their waves.
As we enter the open pavilion, I turn around and address those who are already here.
"Welcome to the first ever Market of Honor. We will be holding this market every year on this day, remembering and honoring those who lost their lives in protection of our nation and people. We are incredibly happy to see so many people already, and we hope there will be more coming. Let the day be one of happiness and laughter." People clap, and go about their day, except for one small group. They approach the pavilion instead, and bow their heads to us, but their eyes are solely on the girls.
"Queen Amber, my name is Oblong, and I am the leader of the Hidden Shadow community." I raise an eyebrow, not quite knowing what to do with that information, but shrug it off and smile.
"Welcome to our market day, Oblong. How may we be of service to you?" I ask politely, but the others keep staring at the girls, and they seem really uncomfortable. They crawl into the laps of their fathers, hiding their heads from the attention. I growl at the crowd behind Oblong - not very Queen like, but right now I am just a pissed off mother.
"Well, we’re actually here to take the girls back to their family, Queen Amber." He says, and the girls start to cry.
