Chapter 171: Chapter 171 The Girl’s Origin

Amber’s POV

"Excuse me? You are not taking our girls anywhere, Oblong. They are our daughters. We adopted them when they came here with me from Kere’s world." I answer, trying my hardest to keep myself, my wolf and my mates calm at the same time. Both Chase and Blaze are going into overprotective daddy mode, and the last thing we need right now is another battle with crazy family members, however distant.

"I must insist, Queen Amber. They belong with us. They are our kin, and we are not leaving without them." The crowd behind him murmurs their agreement.

"Why now?" Chase asks from my right side. I look at him, and I see Calor is just under the surface, ready to defend his kids if necessary. I know, without looking to my left, the same thing goes for Loch and Blaze. Ignis is growling in my head at the threat at hand, but I shush her. We need to be diplomatic about this.

"What do you mean, King Chase?" Oblong asks, his eyes once again falling on either girl. They have a greedy look in them, and I’m sure he’s only here because our children are powerful, much more than first expected.

"Why did you come for them now, and not when they first came back with my mate? And why didn’t you go to Kere’s world to rescue them? You seem to know where they have been all this time?"

Oblong pales, which further indicates something not being entirely right in this situation. Elina narrows her eyes at him, and I can feel her using her powers.

’Elina, what are you doing, honey?’ I mind-link her, she’s looking intently at Oblong, eyebrows furrowed as if she recognizes something.

’He’s a bad man, mommy. He sold us to the bad woman in the dark place. He said we were never to return again, because if we did, they would find out what he did.’ I lift an eyebrow at her words. He sold Melody and Elina to Keres, and now here he is trying to play innocent and get them back. Oh hell no!

"Queen Amber, if I may." He says, his voice cracking in irritation.

"You may not!" I answer with anger, getting out of my chair and standing in full height with my aura on full blast. Oblong cowers back, not able to stand in close proximity to my heat. Neither of my daughters or my mates seem bothered, and I assume it’s because my aura only hurts those with ill intentions towards me and my family. Plus the bond I share with all four of them makes them sort of immune to it. "You may, or may not know this, Oblong. But my daughters have special powers. One of them being mind reading - which in this case comes in very handy. AND they remember. They remember you, and how you sold them to Keres, worried about the strength they possess. I wonder why that is, hm?" Oblong’s pale face turns bright red, before changing to purple. One of his followers behind him gasps, and she stares at him with wide angry eyes.

"Did you sell my nieces to that bitch Keres?" She yells, harnessing the attention of the surrounding people. They might have begun to wonder why this audience was taking so long, and now they kind of know. Because it regards the Princesses.

"Absolutely not! When I came to Obsidian and Elvira’s chambers, they were dead and their children were gone. I would never!" He says, hands to his chest in pure horror. He’s lying, and he’s good at it. But not good enough.

"It’s a lie." Elina whispers loud enough for everyone to hear. Oblong swirls around, giving her a dirty look.

"Quiet child! How dare you speak in front of your peers." He said angrily, and I had enough. I send a wave of heat his way, while forcing him down onto his knees. Oblong’s knees give, and he’s on the ground. Blaze put a hand on my shoulder, telling me quietly to calm down before something unforgivable happens.

"Oblong, I will warn you this one time; never speak to my daughter that way again, because next time I will burn you alive." The threat is open and visible, but the crowd does nothing to help the man or object to my threat, which tells everything I need to know. He’s not a loved leader, and they rather want him gone than to offend the reigning power of the Dragon Lands.

"Queen Amber, I apologize on his behalf. We will deal with him. If what my niece says is true, then he’ll be imprisoned or sentenced to death." The woman from before says. She walks to the front of the crowd and courtesy, before presenting herself as Elfia, the sister to the girl’s mother. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"Mommy." A small voice says behind me, and as I turn Elina raises her hands for me to pick her up. "I can prove it." She whispers in my ear, and then the world around us disappears. Everyone seems as much in shock as me, but Elina explains what’s going on. These are the memories from Oblong, who whimpers on the ground. He knows he’s about to be found out, and probably regrets coming here to get the girls back.

"They are far too powerful Obsidian, we need to do something." Oblong says to a handsome young man holding two small bundles in his arms.

"They are only babies, Oblong. Do calm yourself. They are powerful, yes, but they’ll learn to control their powers. Don’t worry." The young man turns his back on the seething Oblong. As the door to his chambers opens, and a gorgeous young woman turns around, she smiles at the man with the babies, not seeing the greedy and obsessed look in Oblong’s eyes.

The scene disappears and another opens. Something in this does not make sense. I remember how the girls told me their dad was horrible to their mom, and how he kept them in a basement. But that can’t be true. Not with what we just witnessed.

"This is not over Obsidian! I will not allow you to bring those two up to take over when you die. They can’t! They are. They are an abomination. I don’t know how you and Elvira did it, but they are not normal shadow dragons." Oblong is yelling at the same man as the previous memory, but they have both aged.

"We have not done anything, but they are the first pure shadow dragons in over a century. What do we even know about what they can and cannot do?" Obsidian answer with a dismissive gesture. He turns his back to Oblong, and in the moment he does, Oblong draws a dagger from his pocket. He stabs Obsidian in the back. He falls to the ground making gruesome choking sounds. The door to the room burst open and the woman from before runs in, screaming at the sight of her mate on the ground.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" She yells, despair and sorrow covering her voices. Oblong tries to talk to her, but she’s hysterical. He plunges the dagger into the chest, making her fall beside her mate. Dead.

The scene follows Oblong into an adjacent room, where he takes the sleeping children from their bed. They are no more than two years and a couple of months old. He takes them to the basement, opens a secret room and places the children there. He then calls for a woman, who gasps at the sight. He hits her when she asks questions, telling her to shut up and do her work.

The memories end. Oblong is crying on the ground, while everyone around us looks at him in outrage. Two men step forward and bow to me. They take his arms and disappear into the air in dark purple smoke. The woman, Elfia, cries as well. She looked at the girls.

"I never knew. I’m so sorry. I never knew." She falls to her knees, and I know she’s telling the truth.
