Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Mates
Amber’s POV
"I still don’t understand?! How can he be your second chance mate? You still have your first mate. We haven’t had any trouble, and we haven’t rejected each other?!" We are all sitting in a meeting room in the castle, and Chase keeps asking the same questions. I have no answer for them, and I don’t feel like I have to have answers. They are my mates - both of them. And I am not choosing. Even though that would be the obvious answer to all the questions and troubles, I refuse to choose between them.
"I don’t know, Chase. Selene must have picked both of you for me, but I don’t know why?" I answer with a sigh. It’s becoming tiresome to answer the same question again and again.
"I’m sorry, my love. I just don’t understand. No one has two mates. You have one, and can be granted a second chance - but never two at a time." He says, as he reaches for my hand. I take it and squeeze in reassurance.
"You’ll have to ask Selene." I say, a tad of bitterness in my voice of the memory from earlier today. He nods, while looking at Blaze with suspicion, anger, and jealousy. I recognize all the feelings, and would have been the same way had he had another mate himself.
"I have sent word to my father. We need to get this under control as fast as possible. I might have to renounce the throne for this." Chase says, probably more to himself than to anyone in the room.
I shake my head at his train of thought. Why should he renounce the throne just because of me?
"Chase, honey, there might be another way?" I say with caution. His eyes snap to me as they fill with resolution and stubbornness. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"I am not rejecting you, just because your goddess made a mistake. She will have to take back the bond with him. Then there will be no issue." I retract my hand, surprised by the hardness in his voice, as if the whole thing is solved - like I have no say in the matter.
"I’m sorry, your highness, but I’m not going to let her retract my mate bond with Blaze," I state as I cross my arms. I can hear Blaze snicker on the other side of me, and Ezra grunts in a poorly hidden laugh as well. Chase raises an eyebrow, clicking his tongue and shaking his head.
"As my queen, your majesty, you cannot have another mate. It is a reasonable thing to ask of her." He coos, as if I am having a childish tantrum. I roll my eyes at his answer, to which he chuckles. I never thought there would be sides to my prince I would dislike, but I was sadly mistaken. This overbearing, all knowing, and pompous snobbish side of him is ugly and unlike anything I have ever met. Even in my pack, where people can be all of these things and more. It’s like he sometimes thinks of me as a silly woman, who does not need or have the ability to think for herself or make rational and important decisions.
I stand, turning my back to Chase and disregarding his presence entirely.
"Blaze, we have barely spoken since the woods. Would you please escort me outside? I find myself in desperate need of some fresh air. Ezra you as well. You can tell me about home, and your travels." I ask, using my most snobbish and royal tone in my request. I know Ezra will look through my disguise. He knows I will only do this if I’m angry or hurt, and right now I am both.
"I would be delighted to take a stroll with you, my love." Chase answers, before Ezra or Blaze have the chance, but I ignore him. Blaze sends me a megawatt smile, his eyes dancing in suppressed amusement and my heart skips a beat. He is so handsome - no scratch that, he is downright gorgeous in a rough kind of way. Everything about him draws me in - his black hair, his blue eyes, and tanned skin with tattoos. He screams danger, but to me, he is a safe haven.
"With absolute pleasure, little moon," Blaze says while standing slowly. He reaches out to take my hand, and Chase growls, something Blaze didn’t when I was holding hands with Chase before. He has better control of his emotions it seems, but he also knew I had another mate.
As we walk towards the door, Blaze turns around to face Chase, who is standing stiffly by the table.
"Seems like your plan to have me as an outcast didn’t work, your highness. It is an absolute pleasure to ruin your day." He bows sarcastically, before leading me out the door. Outside in the corridor, we run into Callus and the dragon wise, who seem utterly surprised to see me with Blaze.
"Come on, little moon, it’s getting crowded in here." He says as we walk outside into the gardens. Ezra is following us as a shadow, and I know he will not interrupt unless I ask him a question or he senses me to be in danger.
"There’s a lake nearby, let’s go there. Water always seems to calm me, unless you don’t like the water?" Blaze asks, and I smile. The knot in my stomach lessens further from the castle we go. I like that he wants to take charge, but also asks for my opinion - someone else could learn a thing or two here.
"The lake sounds nice, and maybe you can show me your dragon?" I ask, all giddy about the prospect to meet his beast. Blaze chuckle.
"Only if I may meet your wolf?" He answers, as a rumble rolls through his chest. "Yeah, Loch would very much like to meet your wolf." He says, a tint of red adorning his cheeks.
"Well, Ignis would very much like to meet Loch as well," I reply, as we smile at each other.
"So, the story of your adventure?" I ask, and Blaze starts to tell with the occasional comment from Ezra.
"So, when Ezzy Boo and I scared the shit out of the enemy the moon goddess showed up. She teleported us to the outskirts, and then we met you." I’m laughing so hard at the nickname Blaze has given Ezra that my stomach hurts from the strain.
"Ezzy Boo?" I ask in between laughs, as Blaze just sends me another megawatt smile. I look at Ezra who shrugs.
"Well, half breed and I have an understanding." He states, and I laugh again. We have reached the lakeside, and even though it’s quite far from the castle, time seems to fly by in Blaze’s presence.
"Babe?" I ask, and blush. I haven’t even called Chase that, but it seems so natural.
"Yes?" He answers with a tender look.
"I just... What did you mean with Chase having thrown you out as an outcast?" I ask, and his eyes darken. I probably shouldn’t have asked, but oh well here we are.
"Because that’s what he did," Blaze answered, the bitterness in his voice almost too much to bear.
