Chapter 50: Making Friends
"A joke? What do you mean?" TonkotsuRamen innocently asked.
"Pfft–" Maia held back her laughter.
She found it funny because he didn’t know what the ’pounder’ in Misho’s player name meant.
"Nevermind. I do love Quarter Pounder Burgers," Misho answered, with a slight blush on his face.
Now, he couldn’t help but regret his decision. He didn’t think this far when he thought about his name. He thought he would impress women with his name. Instead, he got awkwardness out of it.
"I knew it! My favorite food is Tonkotsu Ramen! I usually travel worldwide and try out food from different cultures."
TonkotsuRamen was bursting with happiness. These days, it was hard to find fellow foodies. Most people would just order their food and wait for it to arrive.
"I..."
"Do you travel around the world too!? Do you know that there are different variations to Quarter Pounder Burgers!?" TonkotsuRamen asked in fervor.
"..."
Misho decided to shut up. He felt terrible trying to stop this guy. He genuinely seemed happy to share the food he liked.
"Haha. This isn’t the first time this guy lost his cool over food," MadPolygon muttered as he shook his head.
"They really seem to get along well. Hehe," Maia giggled.
Everyone else inside the carriage watched TonkotsuRamen share his experiences while Misho was the unfortunate fellow. He could only passively accept his words. He could stop it, but the passion shining from this guy’s eyes made it hard to do something as harsh as stopping him.
"What is your name, miss?" MadPolygon asked.
He glanced at her up and down. It may seem rude, but he was amazed at her beauty.
"Maisha."
"Does that mean something?"
"Maybe. Hehe~" Maia replied as her face turned pink.
Her reaction confused MadPolygon. He was left at a loss.
"What are your races?" WristRose asked.
She was naturally curious about their races. In this game, you could pick from four races. Each of those races had different variations for each of the two sexes.
"I’m a Succubus, and Quarter is an Incubus. We are childhood friends."
"Childhood friends..? Fufu."
WristRose gave Maia a weird look. It was a mixture of pity and amusement.
"What’s with that gaze?" Maia asked as she frowned.
"Nothing. Just don’t get your hopes too high. Or savor it while you can. There is a curse for childhood friends," WristRose replied.
"What curse?"
Maia stared at her blankly. Somehow, she felt uneasy after hearing those words in her mouth.
"What’s the fun in it if I tell you? You know what, add me as a friend. You can ask me for advice if you have any relationship problems!" WristRose offered as she beamed a smile.
Maia squinted her eyes at her. She was acting very suspiciously, but she also seemed nice.
"Fine."
A menu appeared in Maia’s eyes, and she added WristRose as a Friend.
"Confirmed. Come, I want to know more about you and Quarter."
WristRose pulled Maia close to her and placed her ear close to Maia’s mouth. She seemed very gossipy. Thus, the two of them started whispering into each other. Once in a while, WristRose would giggle and blush from the stories Maia would tell her.
MadPolygon and Jabber glanced at each other before their eyes fell upon Vivien.
"Who are you?"
"Umm... Vivien. I’m a Human," Vivien replied nervously.
He was quite thin compared to Jabber. He looked like someone who could knock him out with one punch.
"Are you their friends?" MadPolygon asked.
"I’m not sure. I owe them money for this trip."
Vivien hadn’t really thought about it. He was acquaintances with them, but he didn’t really know if it was appropriate to call him their friend. He was more like the person they saved.
"They must be rich then."
"Yeah. They..."
And so, Vivien talked about what happened in Freewind Village. He spoke to them about the goblin attack and how he woke up almost dead.
"Damn! They sound like real heroes after hearing that story!" MadPolygon exclaimed.
"Hmm... I think we could trust these two," Jabber muttered.
"Mm. Their stories seemed really genuine compared to that guy from before," MadPolygon agreed.
...
The day quickly passed just like that. The two groups exchanged stories and spoke about some things about the game.
"Halt!" a faint voice came from the front of the caravan.
"We can finally eat. It’s so dark outside. Be careful of forest wolves. They tend to be more common at night," Jabber said as a smile formed on his face.
"Jabber, eat quick, ’kay?" WristRose cutely asked and winked at him.
"Yes."
The seven hopped out from the back of the carriage.
"There are so many people," Misho muttered as he looked towards the other carriages.
There were at least twenty people here, including them.
"Many of them are NPCs," Maia added.
She looked around, and most of them had [NPC] floating above their heads.
Misho and Maia felt weird. This game once again proved to them how advanced it was. These NPCs would all be the same as the villagers in Freewind Village, conscious and alive.
"What are the two of you dazing around for? It’s time to eat!" TonkotsuRamen called out.
He was already far ahead. He was helping the NPCs set up a campfire. freēwēbnovel.com
Misho smiled wryly at that guy and grabbed Maia’s hand. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"Let’s go?"
"Mm."
They held hands as they approached the campfire. Their expressions didn’t change much because they were already used to holding each other’s hands.
"Have you guys tried wolf meat before?" TonkotsuRamen asked.
"W-Wolf meat? Isn’t that like dog meat?" Maia asked sheepishly.
It was weird thinking about eating wolf meat because they were technically dogs in the sense that they were just wild ones.
"Don’t worry. They taste good."
"We will pass," Misho replied and held his hand up.
"What a shame. We do have rabbit meat, but you have to pay the merchant for it."
"How much?"
"2 gold each."
"What?!"
Misho widened his eyes very widely.
"That’s 338 Earth Coins!" Maia exclaimed.
She saw the exchange rate for Gold Coins in the forum before. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
"You could also just eat the forest wolf," TonkotsuRamen calmly replied as he shrugged his shoulders.
