Chapter 51: Overcoming A Culture Barrier

"Hey, hey. If you want us to eat wolf meat, you don’t have to do it this way," Misho complained.

He refused to believe he heard him correctly. One Earth Coin could fetch him a single meal. Even inflation couldn’t be this bad. [AN: It can, but you get it.]

"Aren’t you a foodie too? Don’t tell me you lied?" TonkotsuRamen asked and stared at him like someone who just got betrayed.

"I..."

Misho got himself in a difficult situation. He wanted to tell the truth, but this guy just seemed really genuine about what he talked about. He deserved credit for having such passion for his hobby.

"Why don’t we try it then?" Maia suggested.

"Wait, why?"

Misho was surprised by her words.

"It’s just a game. They are forest wolves too. We don’t need to think too much about it," Maia explained.

She wanted to help out Misho. She knew the difficult position he was in. Sometimes, you just don’t want someone who looked honest to feel sad. It was a natural human response.

"...Alright."

Misho forced himself to agree. The idea of eating dogs put him off. Indeed, it didn’t make sense to associate the dogs in the real world with the forest wolves in the game.

"I knew it! A foodie will always be a foodie!"

A wide smile formed on TonkotsuRamen. He felt accepted and joyful.

He stood up and went to help prepare the forest wolves hunted earlier. Misho watched them carry skewers of unknown meat and roast them in flames.

"It smells kind of good," Misho said.

He tried his best not to think about it.

"I’m also feeling hungry," Maia added.

"Here. This is my best barbecue."

A few minutes later, TonkotsuRamen gave Misho a skewer with several meat cubes on it. The meat was covered with thick and delicious-smelling barbecue sauce.

"What does it taste?" Misho asked, moving his head away from the skewers.

"It’s hard to describe. It’s like asking me to describe what pork tastes like. It has its own qualities."

"I did hear about a lot of cultures eating dog meat. There was even one archipelago where dogs were raised for food consumption until they met some colonizers that loathed the idea," Misho said.

He seemed to be trying to convince himself that it wasn’t wrong to eat wolf meat. Of course, it wasn’t exactly dog meat, but the connection was still there. Once you grew up thinking eating dog meat was wrong, you would always believe that to be the case.

"Be open-minded. We might eat more weird things in the future," Maia said.

She tried to help Misho. She realized that the food they might eat in this game would be drastically different from what they were used to.

"Correct! This world is a gold mine for a foodie like me! I even heard you could eat slimes," TonkotsuRamen agreed with her.

"Really?" Misho asked in amazement.

"Eat this first because it’s cooling down. I will tell you more later," TonkotsuRamen said as he pushed the skewer to Misho.

Misho could only begrudgingly accept it. He reluctantly took a bite and started chewing the wolf meat. It was hard to chew because it was like rubber. It was very lean and lacked the tasty fat found in high-quality meat like wagyu.

But nevertheless, it wasn’t bad. Misho started nodding his head as he chewed more and more.

"How was it?" Maia asked nervously.

Even though she urged him to eat it, she still wasn’t used to seeing someone eat wolf meat.

"It’s delicious. You should try it," Misho said.

He wasn’t kidding. Although it was on the tough side, it was still a good piece of meat.

"Right? Everyone should try first before judging," TonkotsuRamen replied.

He watched eagerly to see if Misho would like it or not. He became happy after seeing him eat it.

Misho swallowed the meat in his mouth and looked around. He saw Jabber chewing and swallowing down wolf meat like a grinder. It seemed like he was in a hurry.

WristRose was beside him. She daintily ate her skewers of wolf meat and savored them.

Misho realized that everyone was eating the wolf meat normally. That was when he relaxed. At least, he wasn’t the only one. It was the only thing he could say to himself to calm down his uneasiness after eating the meat.

"Quarter, I will only eat this if you feed me," Maia said.

Her will wasn’t as strong as Misho’s. She was still put off eating wolf meat even after all the convincement she saw and heard around her. Those were still not enough to convince her to eat them alone.

"You won’t regret it," Misho replied and nodded his head.

He grabbed a skewer from TonkotsuRamen and slowly moved it closer to Maia’s mouth.

Maia blushed and focused on Misho’s eyes as he slowly put the wolf meat into her mouth. She opened her mouth without thinking and took a bite.

She was surprised at the taste. She found it hard to chew at first, but the more she chewed, the more flavors came out.

"Mm! I can get behind eating this," Maia muttered.

"Not bad, right? It’s also free."

Misho and Maia were both happy to get over this challenge. It was certainly a great deal for them. Their culture was against eating dog meat.

Both of them realized that this game would challenge all of their predispositions and beliefs.

"I like this game," Misho muttered.

Soon, they had finished eating all of the available wolf meat skewers. TonkotsuRamen were more than happy to roast for them. As a foodie, serving others good food was one of the things that would make him happy.

"Huh? Where are Jabber and WristRose? They suddenly disappeared," Vivien asked as he looked around.

He could swear he saw them eating just a while ago.

"*Cough* They are training. Don’t go look for them," MadPolygon warned Vivien with a serious look in his eyes. freewebnovёl.ƈom

"They are so hardworking. I admire them," Vivien replied as respect filled his face.
