Chapter 9: Chapter 9 - History of the world
The sound of the mental spoon colliding on the plate echoed loudly through the room. Then, a man’s groan could be heard followed by that.
Nathan clicked his tongue, shaking his head, still a mouthful of food in his mouth. After he finished chewing the food, he swallowed hard.
Vincent poured him a glass of water and he drunk it.
Nathan put down the glass and laughed, rubbing his belly.
"This is the best dinner I have in a while." He declared. "Katherine, raise his salary. Even if he wasn’t good at the job, he can work as a chef here."
"Ahem." Vincent coughed. "I am sure I can do the job well."
Nathan smiled and placed his hand on the chin, tilting his head to the side with amusement in his dark eyes.
"Confident?"
Vincent nodded.
"You know the basic of our job?" Nathan asked. "Like how we gather information and worked with the police. Although, I am not officially in the government, I worked for them. My group is known as some sort of special division in the detective offices."
"I have a general knowledge about what the detective do but the knowledge is mostly came from the books and television." Vincent admitted.
"That is the start. Don’t worry too much, Katherine will train you everything you need to know about the job. And I will help you guide on the way to the best detective." Nathan said, stretching his limbs. "Man, I am stuff."
He stood up and left the kitchen.
Only Vincent and Katherine was left alone.
Katherine’s head hung low, staring down at her feets. The plate in front of her was clean, she ate it all. He heard some rumbling coming from her.
Vincent sighed and stood up, stacking up the plates.
"Katherine?" He called out softly.
"I admit." Her voice suddenly came out.
She lifted up her head with moist on her eyes, looking like she was about shed some tears.
"Huh?" Vincent was greatly confused. He knew that his cooking skill was out of this world. His friends from the University always begged him to cook. (Well, their diets were mostly ramen and alcohol.)
But he never saw someone cried from his foods. He should be proud right? This is the highest compliment the chef can get right?
Still, he didn’t want to see tears.
He walked over to her and lifted her head to his face. "I will teach you the secret to my cooking." He whispered.
Katherine frowned, sensing hidden intentions beneath his charming smile.
"Of course, that is a deal."
"What sort of deal?" She asked.
"Teach me everything you can."
"Oh, that? You think I would sabotage you for petty reason? That is rude." Katherine answered slapping away his hand.
Vincent rubbed his hand and smiled, looking down at her. "Deal."

Tuesday morning.
Vincent woke up sharp at 6:30 am. He looked at the clock on the wall and smiled in satisfaction.
His sleeping schedule was fixed.
He walked into his bathroom, washed his face and finished his bowel business. He winded up his shoulders and remembered.
He needed some exercises. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to maintain his body shape but there was no weight around him.
He sighed and walked out of the room. Katherine was up and in the kitchen, making a breakfast.
"Good morning." He greeted her.
She turned around and nodded, continued with her preparation.
"You are early." She said. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Good habit of mine. Where is Nathan?"
"Still sleeping. He usually wake up around 9."
"That is.." He couldn’t find a word so he dropped it.
Katherine’s breakfast was good. Not the best he had but still good.
After that, she dragged in to the second floor and put in the locked room in front of the stairs. The interior of the room was clean, free of dust. But there was only a few furniture in it.
An office desk and a few set of chair.
"This will be your office. But now, we will use this place as study room." She said.
Vincent nodded, opening up the window. The wind entered inside, giving them a fresh air. Since,it was the underground, everything was cold.
It didn’t take him that long for him to close the window. He fixed the furnitures and put them in their respective places.
Katherine came back with a stack of books and dropped it in front of him. The table shook.
"Everything?"
"Yes, everything. This is only just the entrance of the detective world."
Vincent chuckled and nodded.
"If you need anything from me, come find me at my office. You can study your own right?"
"I can." Vincent answered, his eyes still glued to the books.
When Katherine left, he began to sort the books.
Beginners guide for investigation.
Stylish Detective of the future.
Stylish Detective of the past.
Useful thinking pattern for investigation.
Connection you need for Private detective.
Those kind of books, he labeled as a detective related.
The rest were knowledge needed for the jobs. It wasn’t the requirements but the more knowledge you accumulated the better you were at solving the case.
Soon, he began looking deeper into the books.
Times passed as he continued studying.
The earth here was two times bigger than the previous earth. And there was no such things as countries.
That was surprising.
Well, in the past, there as a few great nations but during the age of Villains, everything changed.
Because of the nations, cold war against each other’s. The villains took over everything and took the hostage of the world.
But the heros came and fought. The battle between the two groups, destroyed the entire nation, according to the history text.
The heroes managed to defeat the villains as usual and built the world government organization.
Every nations was forced to accept the overarching government. And that was how the world came to be. freewёbnoνel.com
And all happened 60 years ago, still freshed. Maybe that was why the world government wasn’t corrupt.
Vincent shook his head. Something was missing. How did these villains take the hostage? The entire world? That was absurd.
Those villains were mostly related to the chaos that Eris mentioned. He needed to investigate them.
But not right now. His current position was still unstable.
A knock came to his office.
"Come in." He called out.
Katherine entered with a set of foods. She placed on the table and looked over at his notebook.
"Good." She just muttered one word and left.
