Chapter 8: Chapter 8 - Assaulted by Dinner

Katherine left the two after paying the money to Old Cloak. Vincent watched and thought.

’I also need to learn the money system. It is the same as a dollar but there is a middle one. Guess, world history will cover the money aspect.’

Vincent waved at her. "How cold." He muttered as Katherine left without turning back.

"I think she is just that way from the start. You know, not all people acted like you." Hera consulted him.

"I am sensing that she is testing me." Vincent said.

"Testing you? I don’t see it that way."

"Must be my mind playing a trick on me." Vincent laughed. "Do you have a place you want to go? Katherine said I got about 2 hours."

He ignored her threat. If he didn’t come back to the building within these 2 hours, he would have to sleep outside for 1 week.

"I don’t have any place in mind." Hera answered.

"Then, I will escort you to the car." Vincent said in a gentleman’s manner.

"I think I am having cold feet about this." Hera said suddenly as they walked down the street.

Vincent didn’t say and listened.

"What if I mess up? I don’t care about popularity but I still want people to like me. Maybe I should just take that costume."

"You can still turn back." Vincent said. "But I don’t think you will."

"Why?"

"Because that is the decision you make in the clothing store." He said.

She stared at his black eyes and nodded slowly. "Thanks."

"No need. Just don’t forget when you get swarmed by fans. Wait, maybe I should take your autograph right now." Vincent said.

Hera laughed, covering her mouth.

Time passed so fast as they arrived at the car. Vincent opened the door for her and let her enter. He then closed the door and waved at her.

The window rolled down and Hera’s head came out.

"I will visit you after the weekend."

"So next Monday?" freewēbnoveℓ.com

She nodded.

"Why?"

"Do I need a reason?"

Vincent shook his head. "You don’t need one. You got my number, Hera. Text me when you come so that I can prepare to be the best."

Hera smiled softly, her face blushing. She lifted up her face, not bothering to hide her rose cheek. She continued to stare at him.

Vincent smiled and added. " And you can call me at any time. I will gladly pay you the debt I owe."

"I would call it a debt." She shook her head. " You also help me as well."

"That is a small help."

"But a help nevertheless. See you soon, Vinc."

Hera drove off with incredible speed. Vincent stared at the back of the car and shook his head.

No matter how much he liked and wanted to experience the warmth of flesh with her, he wouldn’t stay with her in the car.

He sighed and turned around. He got a phone and a notebook. He didn’t have any money yet but a wallet for his intensification card.

"I will take a look at the street. Some window shopping and see if I can get a few connections and information."

Vincent took a step forward and entered into the dome-city. He slowly walked around and looked at the store.

There were tattoo shops, cafes and a few clubs but they were closed since there was still sunlight.

Vincent stared up and looked at the dome- light. The light was artificial.

Is this place like that one movie where the protagonist was watched by everyone?

Vincent flinched at the thought and erased the chain of thoughts processed in his mind. Sometimes, you just want to forget stuff or else, you will be hunted by the memories.

Vincent walked around the small city. After remembering all the routes around the detective building, he came back.

He entered through the second floor and searched for people.

He called out and met with no one. Now, he had a choice. Stayed in the guest room, read some books and waited for Katherine or figured out every room on this floor.

Born with an adventure spirit, Vincent chose the latter.

He started from the entrance.

After the entrance door, you walked about 10 steps and met with two rooms. On the left was the guest room. And to the right was another office.

But seeing how much effort the person put into the cleanliness, he suspected that it was Katherine’s room.

After these two rooms, just another 15 steps away, you will find two doors.

One was locked for reasons he didn’t know and the other was a stair, connecting the first and third floor. Vincent restrained himself from going away from the second floor but his eyes moved.

As he was looking down, a cough came from upstairs.

Vincent looked up and saw Katherine walking down, gracefully. If he moved his head to a certain angle, he could see into her skirt.

But he didn’t.

Obviously because that wasn’t the right thing and she expelled the aura of murder in her eyes.

"Hi."

She continued to stare at him and nodded. Suddenly her cold expression changed as her red lips curved into a thin smile.

The smile was beautiful but her eyes didn’t change. "Good job for fighting against your impulse, you pervert."

"Thanks."

"Come upstairs, I will show you your room." Katherine said and returned to the third floor.

Vincent followed behind her like a dog.

The third floor had a very different structure than the second one. In fact, it was similar to a standard giant apartment which you rented together with your friends in a big city.

The living room was placed on the left side of the building.

"There is no shared bathroom." Katherine said with a smile. "Feeling sad?"

"What? No. You really think I am a pervert."

"Obviously. Are you deaf? Don’t you hear me calling you that?"

"I did but still.." Vincent sighed.

Katherine ignored her and showed the room. As for the bags, Katherine used the automatic robot to send here. She said she didn’t want to look at the pathetic look on his face.

At least, she was still kind to him a little bit.

After learning everything he knew about the apartment, he nodded.

He opened the door to his room and was about to close but he remembered.

"Hey, Where is Nathan?"

"Looking at the case."

"Can you tell me details?"

"No." She flatly denied him. "You need to train to appear more intelligent. You also needed to learn everything useful about the city. And we need to promote you to the world."

"Don’t worry." Katherine said with a smile. "I will teach you everything about the world of detectives in one week. So prepare yourself and rest now."

Vincent nodded and closed the door but a foot suddenly shoved in, stopping him.

"You know that I am not really telling you to rest."

Vincent sighed and flicked her forehead. "I know."

She backed away and rubbed her head, in a shook expression.

Vincent closed the door but heard her voice soaking through the gaps.

"I don’t want to live beside a nasty man. Clean your place very well."

After that, he heard footsteps leaving.

Vincent sighed and turned around. He started unpacking everything he bought and placed in the respective places.

It took him 2 hours. He didn’t know why he spent that much time on that.

Vincent smelled himself and decided to take a shower.

The time was around 6 pm and he came out of his room and entered into the kitchen.

He searched for foods to cook and put the necessary ingredients on the kitchen table. At the same time, he heard two distinct footsteps coming up from the stairs.

Nathan and Katherine.

Nathan looked tired, the bag under his eyes was visible now that the room was bright with light. His hair was rough and twirled a lot.

He looked over at the kitchen.

"You can cook?" He asked.

"Very much so. Name the dishes you want, I can make it." Vincent answered with pride.

"Hmm. I will test you in that. Prepare the best dish you have." Nathan said. "I am going to take a shower."

He announced and entered into his own room.

Katherine came to the kitchen and looked over at his works for a moment. She covered her face and smiled softly.

Vincent ignored her. She was beginning to express more in front of him. He should take it as a good thing right?

He wasn’t sure. Maybe, she liked to torment the person she was familiar with. Vincent hadn’t met that kind of girl but heard from others.

She also left her room and disappeared, leaving him alone in the kitchen.

Vincent was still amazed at how much they put trust in a stranger. He shook his head, shooing away the unnecessary thoughts and began cooking.

Since they asked about his best, he would gladly take the challenge.

After an hour of cooking, he put down the food on the table and waited for the challengers to come.

The foods were this.

Chicken Wontons in Spicy Chili Sauce. Red Chile Tostadas with Eggs. Parmesan Garlic Butter Crusted Halibut.

Three main dishes and a few side dishes like salad and taco.

As for the drink, he found a few wine bottles and placed them in an ice bucket. The smell of the food covered the entire floor, dragging the two out from their rooms.

Nathan came out and stared at the feast. Behind him was Katherine, looking at all the foods with a widened expression. She couldn’t believe Vincent could deliver such amazing looking foods.

She refused. The smell would be appetizing but the taste was more important.
