Chapter 35: Chapter 35 - Personal Detective
The car moved in a zip zap pattern. Sometimes, it circled. The driver was clearly trying to shake off the mind of the detective.
Vincent laughed inwardly and allowed them to do as they please. Afterall, no matter how much or how many ways they do, they would never shake off the fact that Vincent will know about their location.
Vincent stayed silent throughout the entire trip, occasionally rubbing his waist due to the itchiness.
The car stopped and Vincent was sent flying, crushing his face into the back seat. A hand reached out to his collar and grabbed him up, lifting him in the air. ƒreewebɳovel.com
’He is strong.’ Vincent thought of the unknown man.
The car door opened.
"Get out." The man said, pushing him out once again allowing Vincent to fall off to the ground.
Vincent groaned in pain and stood up with a shaking knee. Then that man guided him, grabbed his hand and led him.
"Stairs." He said just one word of warning.
Vincent nodded and followed, carefully stepping on the stairs.
After climbing up for an ungodly amount of minutes, they reached the desired floor. Vincent didn’t remember which floor they were on and he didn’t have the desire to care any more.
He was tired, treated like trash. And the bag which covered his face made him suffocate, messing up his judgment.
Soon, he arrived at the room and the man pushed him to the soft sofa, finally resting his ass.
But he didn’t take off the bag on his face yet.
Vincent waited in the darkness, soaking in everything his mind threw at him. It was uncomfortable as his mind wondered about the parents.
They were dead in a car crash at a young age but Vincent carried them in his heart. Their kind gazes, their banter, everything about them, he remembered.
A ruffle of the clothing heard from his side. Vincent lifted up his head and turned toward the direction. Even if his head was covered by the bag, the instinct followed.
"Jason?" He called out.
"Yeah." Jason replied, confirming that the senior detective was indeed beside him.
"How is the journey?" Vincent asked.
"Surprisingly good. They treat me well. No shoving. No pushing." Jason answered. "Aside from the fact that the bag felt uncomfortable. Everything is good."
"Haha. Same." Vincent laughed.
Then a door swung open softly, a series of footsteps echoed inside the room.
Judging by the sound, Vincent noted that there were three people who entered inside.
Someone sat in front of them. That person must be Silas.
Vincent waited silently.
"Take off their bags." The man ordered.
Vincent finally breathed in freely. He sighed and smiled, looking ahead and paused.
Silas was a young man about the same age as him. His eyes were sharp and he carried himself as a boss. Well, it was expected since there was no way, ordinary person could be a drug lord.
"Alcohol?" Silas asked, lifting up his chin.
"No." Jason answered, stretching his neck.
"Boring." Silas muttered with a smile. He then turned his attention onto Vincent. "You?"
"Same as him. I am not that good at the alcohol thing." Vincent said.
"What a boring meeting." Silas said. "Then, let’s get to the point. You want to know the murder of the kid right?"
"Correct." Jason nodded. "You got the information?"
"Of course. I have everything about all the drug Lords in this city."
"Impressive work." Vincent said. "But it is not free right?"
"Nothing is free, detective Vincent." Silas said, playing with his hair. "I want two things."
"We only want one thing. It isn’t a fair trade." Jason said. His eyes were cold and ruthless as if he was staring at the bug or worse, some kind of monstrous creature.
"This is fair trade. Beside the name of the drug lord, I will give up the evidence of the killing and much more. If you want, I can also give you a way to capture or kill him." Silas said. "I prefer to give a way to killing since it is much easier."
"Temping offer." Jason said, rubbing his chin.
"Tell me about the thing you want." Vincent asked.
"It is really simple." Silas said, showing two fingers. "The first one is to be my personal detective."
"The two of us?" Jason asked.
"No, just you." Silas pointed at Vincent. "Be my personal detective. I will give you money, women and everything you want."
"What about the second thing?" Jason said, ignoring the first one.
"Haha. Don’t say anything about me in your report. In other words, I don’t want anything to do with the current situation. Leave me alone."
"It is manageable." Jason nodded. "As for the first one..."
Jason stared at Vincent. "That depends on him."
Silas nodded. "You can discuss things you want."
Jason nodded and signalled Vincent to come near him.
Vincent stood up and walked toward Jason. There were another two men beside Silas, observing everything they did. Their gazes were collected not anything like the criminals of the slum.
They acted more like professional guards. Silas must have trained them a lot.
"What do you want to do?" Jason whispered to Vincent’s ear.
"I will take the offer." Vincent stated plainly. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Think about it more. Once you are a part of this world, it is difficult to escape."
"Don’t worry about it, sir. I have thought a lot." Vincent smiled. "You won’t tell this to the captain right?"
"I won’t. I know how it works. Even if told to the captain, he won’t care about it. Almost everyone in the Homicide Division worked with the drug Lords or other criminals." Jason sighed. "But be careful. Don’t cover them. If you do something heinous, I will personally catch you."
"Don’t worry, Jason." Vincent said. "I know my heart."
"Very well."
The two split apart.
"Deal." Jason said.
"Very well. Give me one day to prepare all the evidence." Silas nodded with a bewitching smile. He was the charismatic leader.
The tone of his words eased the person’s mind and heart.
"Then, we will take our way." Jason stood up.
"Wait a minute, you haven’t told me about the way you want to deal with the drug lord."
"Kill." Jason said.
"Very well. I will also prepare a way to kill." Silas smiled, kicking the corner of his mouth. "My men will escort you to your car but detective Vincent will stay with me to discuss things."
Jason looked at Vincent.
Vincent smiled, ensuring him that he would be fine alone with the drug lord. Jason sighed and nodded, walking away with the two men.
Finally, only Silas and Vincent were left alone in the room.
Vincent calmed his mind quickly and thought about a way to dig deeper into Silas’s mind. He didn’t know why Silas would choose him as the personal detective.
