Chapter 34: Chapter 34 - Drag along

"Bullshit." Jason cursed, flickering out the cigarette butt toward Jackal.

Jackal moved away, afraid of the red heat from the cigarette. Even with this disrespectful act, the smile on his face never fluttered. As if he was pinching a crazy sale idea to his boss.

"Screw that. I am not following that shit. You think I am dumb?" Jason ignored the ugly face and took out another cigarette from his pocket.

He lit it on and took a long breath, filling his lungs with grey smoke.

"Come on, bro. You think I have the influence to touch the drug lord. I am just doing my best."

"And your best is shit."

Vincent rubbed his mind, thinking deeply about the proposal.

Jackal said that in order to have the meeting with Silas. They had to get kidnapped by that drug lord. They will have to wear blindfold and have to stay in a van.

That was the condition set up by the newly made drug lord, Silas.

Like Jason said, it was a bad idea but Vincent was tempted to try it out despite the risk.

"Sir." Vincent called Jason.

The senior detective glanced at him.

"I think it is best to discuss the next step ourselves."

Jason nodded and pointed the red tip at Jackal. He then dragged the cigarette and pointed at the entrance.

Jackal understood the situation and stood up and left.

As soon as the door closed, Vincent prepared to convince Jason but the man was faster.

"I will take the deal." Jason said, blowing out a long string of smoke. "You should stay back for today, rookie." freewebnøvel.com

Vincent shook his head with a soft laugh. "No need for that, I will follow you as well. We are partners right?"

Jason stared at him and nodded slowly. "Go get that fool."

Vincent walked to the door and opened it. He saw Jackal chatting with the two women, his body leaning on the table.

The look of awkwardness on the two women was visible to the naked eyes. Vincent sighed and walked over to Jackal and grabbed the collar.

"Hey, bro."

"Shut up, we have made the decision." Vincent groaned.

Back in the private room, Jason told him that the two detectives would follow the drug lord.

"Sweet dream, bros." Jackal said with a laugh and got up from the chair. "I will go make the arrangements."

"Go ahead." Jason waved his hand, laying back on the chair.

"I will also make a call." Vincent said and took out his phone. He typed Katherine’s number and told her that he would be late tonight.

He hung up the phone and shoved it back to his pocket.

"Girlfriend?" Jason asked.

"No, just a flatmate." Vincent said.

Jackal came back from his own phone call. His face was filled with a twisted smile. It was like staring into a vile creature.

"Good news." He said. "Silas said go to the park in this district and sit on the bench. His men will come and escort to his place."

Jason stood up with a nod.

"Should I follow?" Jackal asked from the side, rubbing his two hands.

"No. You just stay here and enjoy yourself." Jason said, patting Jackal’s shoulder.

Jason walked past and left the private room, leaving Jackal and Vincent.

Vincent smiled and stood up. He ignored Jackal and followed his superior.

The two men walked out from the bar and arrived at the sidewalks.

"Do you have any plan on how to proceed after meeting with Silas?" Vincent asked.

Jason took a deep breath of air he had never breathed before in the room.

"That depends on the meeting. If Silas is the killer then, we will gather evidence and kill his ass. If he isn’t the killer, guess we will follow the clue." Jason said. "Anyway, this case is going to take a long time. Do you know this district?"

"I know somewhat." Vincent answered, recalling his study of the map. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Then,take me to the park."

"I intend to." Vincent sighed.

While Vincent didn’t know the exact location of the district, he studied the entire city’s map. From it, he knew about a similar laid out plan.

So by following those, he began to form a crudely made map in his head. After walking for 30 minutes, they both arrived at the park.

Due to the sun being the highest point in the sky, the park was empty.

"Let’s take a seat with a shadow. I don’t wanna burn my skin." Jason pointed at the bench.

Vincent nodded and went there.

They both took a seat and visibly relaxed.

Jason shoved his hand into the pocket, trying to take a cigarette in reflex but he held back the urge.

Vincent and Jason talked about detective work. It was mostly Jason since Vincent asked about a lot of questions, soaking in the experiences like dry sponge.

Time passed quietly and they didn’t see a hint of Silas’s men around or in the park. A few children playing around.

A family hanging out under the shade of the giant tree.

A few students skipped class and smoked, thinking that they managed to hide well from the eyes of the public. Vincent scolded them from his seat but they weren’t frightened or even startled by it.

They just flipped him a middle finger and went on smoking.

Vincent sighed and was about to follow them when Jason grabbed his shoulder.

"Not worth it."

"Yeah." Vincent sat back and sighed.

They waited for 4 hours. Strangely, Jason was patient and relaxed. Vincent thought that the man would be angry with this but no, it was the opposite.

"Finally." He muttered suddenly.

"What finally?" Vincent asked, tilting his head.

"They are on a move." Jason said with a smile. "Stay firm. Don’t act when they are punching you. Just follow their instructions."

"Alright." Vincent nodded.

Vincent stared at the water fountain and felt the two presences behind him.

"Stay tight, detective." The presence behind him spoke with a twisted tone. A hint of evil hung in the air but Vincent saw through that as a fake.

The presence was forcing himself to be evil.

Vincent smiled and a cloth covered his face and dragged him away.

He was pushed and shoved into the van. A kick landed on his back. He groaned in pain but didn’t complain like Jason suggested.

’Hmm... I didn’t sense Jason beside me. They must have used two cars for this task. What a crazy fellow.’ Vincent thought.
