Chapter 33: Chapter 33 - Unparalleled intellect
Vincent was shocked to the core. His mind couldn’t wrap around the fact that Nathan even managed to stay alive and come here.
He even doubted that the story Nathan told them was a lie. It was all just one big lie.
But no. He saw the truth in the senior detective eyes.
"You should write a book about it." Vincent sighed, massaging his temples.
"Maybe I should. I am sure I would gain some readers." Nathan joked.
"Four way card game." Katherine said.
The two men looked at her with confusion.
"You should name the book Four way card game."
"Too generic." Vincent said.
"Agree."
Katherine gritted her teeth in anger.
Vincent checked the watch and saw that it was around the time for him to leave.
So he stood up.
"Now, unlike you two, I have a job." Vincent joked. "I think I will come here late today so please don’t lock the door."
"I will try." Katherine said.
"Good luck on your job, Vincent." Nathan said.
"Hmm.. strange, I thought you are the type to not believe in things as luck." Vincent said, rubbing his chin.
"Oh, I believe in luck. Magic. Everything is strange in this world. Maybe I should tell you a story about how I was bested by a Villain who has the ability to control Luck." Nathan laughed.
"Of course, the story ends in the Villain’s head being split open."
"That is graphic." Vincent covered his mouth acting like a frightened child. "But not now, I need to digest the story you just told me. See you guys later."
Vincent left the building, walking beside the sidewalk, swinging around his car keys.
He entered the car and warmed up the engine. After a few minutes, he drove off from the dome city.
Inside the car, his mind drifted back to the story Nathan shared.
Three Villains and One Detective.
They all played the card game where each person has two cards and have to make the strongest pair by exchanging and dropping the card.
After three exchanges and three drop outs, the round ended.
The highest card holder became the king and could order everything he wanted to the three losers.
But there was a catch like every game. The king must know the order of the three losers. And have to order them by that sequence.
Failure to do that results in the losing one part of the king. As for what that part meant, it could be anything as long as all three losers agreed on it.
If they didn’t agree to take the part of the king, the game restarted.
There was no true ending in the game from the start. Either you live or die.
The fact that Nathan survived this kind of game with three other Villains meant he managed to outsmart them.
But his plan wasn’t a success and as a result, one of his arms was injured by the villain.
"To be able to read three other Villains and manipulate the flow of cards. You will need to know the opponents inside and out." Vincent muttered.
And the craziest thing was that Nathan didn’t know any of these Villains personally from the start. So, he had to figure them out by playing a dangerous game.
One of the villains has the power of teleportation. One has energy manipulation and loves to cut a person’s limbs and fingers. The final Villain has Low level Mind readings and emotions projection.
"Crazy. Crazy. Crazy." Vincent muttered those three words.
If he was in Nathan’s situation, he would be dead. But probably not in the first round.
But in the second round, he knew that he would succumb to the trick of mind reading and emotions projection. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
He wondered how Nathan managed to do that. Did he possess a different level of intelligence than him?
He wasn’t sure.
Also How did he manage to form a plan under mind control?
He asked Nathan but the man just shook his head and said, he needs to figure it out on his own.
It was frustrating and yet exciting.
Frustrating because there was an answer in front of him. But he was unable to get that answer due to Nathan’s refusal.
Exciting because Vincent realized that there was more to just tracking down the criminals.
As the excitement grew the car also sped up.
Suddenly, a police siren was heard from above.
"The car with Number 09/567. Stop to the side."
Vincent sighed and complied with the police.

In the dark room. Among all the private rooms behind Benny’s bar was a party going on.
Jason would describe the situation he was in as a party but the mood was low.
"Your partner isn’t coming, Mr.Detective." Jackal said from the side, pouring out the glass of alcohol.
"That kid must be scared shitless with the drug lord’s business." He chuckled.
"Shut up, Jackal. I am not in the mood for banter."
"Yes. Yes."
The room went silent. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
The smoke lingered in the air as Jason popped out another cigarette. It was the fifth cigarette, he was smoking.
"Should I leave or come back again?" Jackal interrupted the silence once again with his foul mouth.
"Shut up."
"Come on, Big Bro. I don’t want to spend my time drinking alcohol with another dude. You know my heart right? Try calling him."
"No."
After waiting for a half hour, the door to the private room swung open.
Vincent came with a bright smile.
"Where the hell have you been doing, rookie?" Jason shouted with annoyance etched in his voice.
Jackal was fidgeting his legs and amused by the situation. The earlier part of the conversation was so that he could make Jason angry.
Vincent put up with his arms and waved. His shoulder lowered and his head even more so.
He sat down on the empty chair and let out a long and suffering sigh.
"I was in the police station."
"Oh.. did you get caught doing something bad Detective?" Jackal said from the side.
Jason threw him a threatening glance.
Vincent laughed and nodded. "Indeed. The police said I was driving without a driving license so they arrested me."
"You could just show your badge and be done with it." Jason muttered, now calmed as he listened to Vincent’s explanation.
"I did but the police said I was lying. He said that I was too young for the Homicide Division."
"True. Didn’t he check with his own system?" Jason asked.
"He did and the result said that I am a Detective as well but he is unconvinced." Vincent sighed. "I think he has a personal grudge against the Detective or something."
"So the police dragged your ass to the station and checked there."
"Correct. As expected of the smartest person in the room." Vincent said.
"Enough with that nonsense. So how do you clear your name? I am sure you will get a fine for driving without a license."
"Hehe." Vincent chuckled. "I got a connection."
Jason realized that Vincent was talking about Nathan so he nodded.
Jackal was confused but he knew for sure that Vincent wasn’t just a simple rookie.
After yesterday, he tried to hold off everything he could learn about Vincent but didn’t find anything.
No one knew about him.
He didn’t even know where he stayed.
As for Jason, Jackal already got the surface level information about him. He could try to get more information from Jason but he valued his life more.
"So, now that we are all here. I will tell you a way to meet Silas."
