Chapter 32: Chapter 32 - Quack Doctor
Vincent was in his room, cleaning the blood from his hands. But he noticed that his clothes were soaked in blood as well.
So he took a quick shower and came outside.
Katherine also came out from her room.
Their gazes met and she turned away, looking at the table. The mess Vincent created was in full display.
Normally, she would scold him for such a mess but just for this case, she felt happy.
"Let’s go check Nathan." Vincent said, pointing his chin toward Nathan’s room.
Katherine nodded and followed him. Vincent opened the door and saw Nathan laying on the small bed.
Despite the huge interior of the room, the bed was very small. And the cushion on the bed was also thin.
"He will get a back ache with this bed." Vincent commented, checking Nathan’s pulse and heartbeat.
He wasn’t the doctor but he could at least understand the condition of the patient.
"When will he wake up?" Katherine asked from the side, her eyes filled with worry.
Vincent didn’t know the answer either. The blood loss was immense. If not from his unlimited energy supplying a huge amount of blood, Nathan could lose his life.
Of course, if that happened, Vincent would drag him to the hospital ignoring Nathan’s request.
Due to the blood loss, Vincent knew that the brain took damage.
"He will wake up." Vincent lied through his teeth. For Katherine’s worry, he lied.
He then turned around from Nathan and smiled.
"Cheer up, at least he is alive. I don’t know what kind of mess he got into but I am sure he will wake up."
"You are right." Katherine nodded, mustering up the glimmer of hope.
Vincent grabbed her hand and pulled her away from the room.
"What are you doing?" Katherine asked, not shaking away his hand. In fact, she clenched tighter than his grip.
"We have to clean the living room and frankly I don’t think I can do it alone." Vincent said.
"But Nathan needs us."
"No he doesn’t." Vincent said flatly.
"What if something happens?"
Vincent tapped his watch. "I have synchronized his physical condition with my watch and you. We will be alert when he has an abnormal condition."
"But.." Katherine’s head hung low, looking down at the floor.
Vincent patted her head and ruffled her black silky hair.
"I know you will stay there. But it isn’t a good thing for both you and Nathan. Let him rest alone. You will get lazy."
"You are cruel." Katherine said.
Indeed he was cruel. Nursing beside a patient was the best choice but considering Nathan’s personality, he knew that he wouldn’t want that.
"Come on, help me clean up."
"Alright." Katherine nodded. It seemed that she understood his thinking somewhat.
They both cleaned the mess in the living room. Vincent picked up the trash and threw it into the bag.
He looked down the blood stained carpet and sighed. "We need to change this."
After cleaning everything, Vincent sat on the chair and let out a sigh. He covered his eyes with his hand and gathered himself. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Katherine made the coffee for the two of them and placed it on the table. She then sat in the opposite direction.
Vincent smelled the coffee and grinned. He didn’t think he could handle another coffee. His stomach was full of drinks. But since Katherine troubled herself, he would enjoy it like a gentleman. freewebnσvel.cѳm
He grabbed the coffee and drank it. It was sweet, not bitter like morning.
"So do you know what happened to Nathan?"
Katherine paused and nodded slowly. Very slowly as if she was conflicted about it.
"Can you tell me about it or not?"
"Guess." Katherine said.
Vincent smiled, placing back the cup. "I am not very good at guessing games. They rely too much on luck. But I will say that you will tell me about it."
"Sure, there is no harm in telling you. It is just that Nathan has been acting alone lately." Katherine sighed. "You see, he is taking the job in the Capital City."
Vincent’s interest lifted up. "Capital City. What kind of job?"
"Hunting villains."
"Isn’t that supposed to be the job of heroes?" Vincent was confused.
"Yes but Nathan is a bit of a strange detective. He is good at solving crime and finding the mastermind criminals but..."
"He is the best at hunting down Villains and killing them."
Vincent was taken back by this. He didn’t understand how a regular human like Nathan could kill Villains.
"Gun fight? Or did he have superpowers?"
Katherine shook her head, smiling.
"Gun fight? He couldn’t even shoot a car even if the car was stationary. He has a bad aim. As for superpower, I don’t think so. If he did, he would be very good at hiding his secret."
"So how did he hunt the Villains? You know about this right?"
"Yes. I heard bits and pieces from him sometimes."
"Tell me about it. I am interested."
"Not all Villains are deranged individuals. Some possessed terrifying intellect and loved to test their limits. Those are the types of Nathan hunts."
"So you think this is the result of that battle?"
Katherine nodded. "It is possible."
She then checked the time and said, "It is getting late. We should prepare food."
"Alright."

After the dinner, Vincent checked Nathan once again. The man hadn’t woken up from his slumber yet.
So, he came out from the room and went to his office, continuing his study there. He read many books, filling out the gaps in his knowledge.
Even if he felt like he knew everything, he would continue studying.
At 12 AM, Vincent closed the book and went to his bed.
He woke up at 6 AM and did the exercise. He ate breakfast with Katherine since his meeting was around 10 AM.
Suddenly, the door or Nathan’s room swung open and a man emerged from it.
Vincent threw a quick glance, observing the skin and complexion of Nathan.
’Good, he is healing properly.’ Vincent nodded.
"How cruel! You don’t even invite me for such a feast." Nathan joked walking toward the table with his injured arm.
The arm was fixed with a makeshift cloth for it to rest.
"It is because you are still sleeping like a kitten." Katherine said, returning to her previous sarcasm.
Nathan sat on the chair and began to eat the breakfast furiously. No words were spoken.
After the breakfast, Nathan settled down the spoon and looked around.
"Does anyone want to know what happened to me?"
"Isn’t that obvious?" Vincent rolled his eyes. "Look at Katherine, it is written all over her face."
"Hey."
"Calm down. Calm down." Nathan chimed in, stopping the two of them from further bickering. In normal circumstances, he would allow it to happen since it was fresh air in his heavy life.
But now, with his injuries, he didn’t want to listen to that. For now.
"I will tell you guys." Nathan sighed. "Before that can I smoke?"
Nathan’s eyes drifted to Katherine. It was puppy eyes, trying to gain sympathy.
Katherine turned away from his gazes and pouted cutely.
Knowing that he didn’t have the permission, Nathan sighed.
"I was in a deadly battle with three people." Nathan started the conversation. "I won’t share who they are for obvious reasons that I didn’t want to."
"Yeah. Yeah." Vincent scoffed.
"Anyway, because of that battle, I suffered this wound and teleported here. End of the story."
"Hold on. The story is too short." Vincent waved his hands.
"I thought you all didn’t want to waste time." Nathan said.
"I got time."
"Same." Katherine agreed.
