Chapter 36: Chapter 36 - Impossible dream and Possible power
The staring contest was held by the two men. The opponent was Silas, the newly made drug lord of the City.
His demeanor was soft but he carried himself sharply and illuminated the warmth sensation in his eyes.
But behind those charming eyes, Vincent saw the vicious darkness.
’It is like staring into a mirror.’ Vincent thought.
"Why did you want me?" Vincent asked, breaking the brief silence between them.
"Aren’t you a detective?" Silas smiled. "Try uncovering my goal?"
"I don’t know." Vincent admitted.
"Come on, don’t be a boring man. I dealt with hard boiled men all the time and they all cracked."
"Because they are scared of you." Vincent commented. "Anyway, I think that you chose me because I am just like you, a fresh meat in this city."
"Haha." Silas chuckled. "Good start. But you are right. The jackal contacted me saying that two detectives want to meet with me. At first, I was indifferent. Everyone wants to know about the new drug lord. But since you guys are the first from the government, I thought I will make a connection at least."
"First, Jason..." Silas paused, frowning. "That man is dangerous."
Vincent nodded, agreeing with Silas.
"But he is a good detective. The best in the city."
Vincent smiled. He won’t call him the best while a figure like Nathan stood in this ground.
"So, I was tempted but when I searched for your information. I was even more impressed." Silas pointed at him.
"Why? I am just a regular human." Vincent said.
"A humble one." Silas shook his head. "You suddenly came to the Homicide Division and got the job. I searched your background, but it is all ordinary stuff. So, there must be someone backing you. Someone important enough to shake the government."
"So you are looking for that backing." Vincent nodded.
"No, don’t act stupid, Vincent." Silas sighed. "My aim is just you. Someone who managed to get that kind of backing must be extraordinary."
"What would you do if it was all luck?"
Silas laughed, holding his belly. He laughed as if he just heard the best joke in the entire world.
The laughter of the unrestricted man echoed loudly in the room. Silas looked at Vincent’s face and paused, dumbfounded.
"Seriously? It is luck."
Vincent sighed. "Of course."
Silas shrugged off. "It doesn’t matter whether it is luck or not. You are the real deal I am looking for."
Vincent’s interest peeker up.
"Since we are going to have a good relationship in the future. I suppose I should tell you about my goal." Silas said, waving his hand to the side.
"I am going to kill all the drug lords and destroy the criminals’ activities in this city. Then, I will move on to the next."
Silas stared at Vincent and nodded in approval. "Good, you don’t laugh."
"Am I supposed to?"
"Many laughed at me, saying that it is an impossible dream I am chasing."
Vincent rubbed his chin. "They are correct. It is an impossible dream but with enough power, it can be done."
"That is a contradiction, My Detective." Silas said, locking his mouth. It seemed like it was his habit. "You said it is impossible but with power it can be done? Then, it isn’t an impossible dream at all."
"Impossible power?" Vincent shrugged, looking at Silas.
The two broke into laughter.
"Good one." Silas nodded. "Yes, impossible power. But I have that inside this." Silas pointed at his head.
"I can make this happen."
"Is this a noble dream of yours?" Vincent asked.
"Maybe. Now, let’s conclude our conversation. I got a job to do." Silas stood up, fixing his black suit. "I will contact you about the information regarding the drug lord. After that, we can discuss my dream."
"Sounds good."
Vincent left the building. Maybe because his status now changed into the henchmen of the drug lord, his treatment improved greatly. freewebnøvel.coɱ
He was escorted by a very fancy flying car.
The brute looking man dropped him in front of his car without saying a word.
Vincent sighed, looking at the orange sky. He took out his phone and called the policeman.
"Hi."
"Yes, sir."
"Good job, thanks for the help."
"It has been my pleasure, sir."
The call closed off. Vincent lied about having stopped by the policemen. Well, it wasn’t a lie but it wasn’t the complete truth at all.
He was indeed stopped by the policeman but he cleaned everything smoothly and requested the two policemen to follow them. He didn’t trust Jackal, so he planned the safety net.
Thankfully, everything was processed smoothly.
Vincent called Jason and talked about the planning.
The senior detective listened quietly and sighed from the other side. "Good job, I will talk about our strategy to the captain. Rest for today."
"Are you going to request help from the heroes?"
"This isn’t my decision." Jason said. "But it all depends on the evidence and the information given to us by Silas."
Vincent nodded and said goodbye and hung up the phone. He whistled a tone and thought about the next step.
The second case of his career was turning into a close Chapter. He also gained the connection with the heroes and now, the connection with the criminals was also established.
Now, he needed to use those two connections to enter into the world of villains. After that...
Vincent sighed, shaking his head. "I will plan after that."
He entered inside his car and drove off to Nathan’s building.
"It is a busy week." Vincent muttered to himself.
Tomorrow was going to be filled with action and he also had a date with Hera.
Vincent came back to his room and studied while training his body to the limit. He also practiced the plasma revolver.
Everything was slowly improving.

Nathan was resting in his office. He would be lying if he said he didn’t want this kind of peace.
But still, he couldn’t help but wonder when his next target would be.
Tap... Tap...Tap...
He tapped softly and rhythmically on the wooden table, losing out his mind. frёewebηovel.cѳm
A sharp headache assaulted his mind. Nathan clenched his head and his face twisted with a painful expression. The battle with the mind reader out a serious troll on his fragile mind.
It was easy to anticipate the attack from that Villain but it was hard to counter.
A fax machine placed beside the wall suddenly vibrated, showing a sign of activation.
His eyes opened and he dragged his wounded body to the machine. The paper came out.
Nathan grabbed it and read the content. Slowly, his eyes widened.
Surprised, terror, fear and rage.
All in that order took his face. He clenched the paper into a ball of crumbled mess and tossed it to the side.
"He is here."
