Chapter 27: Chapter 27 - Role-play

"Jackal works in all kinds of business. Drug, tracking, loan.. name all the illegal stuff. But he draw the line at killing and raping. I don’t know if I should praise him for that but hey, he isn’t truly evil." Jason said, chugging the beer.

"I say he is evil. No matter how small the crime is, as long as that crime is hurting someone then you are evil." Vincent declared.

"That is the blind Justice." Jason said. "But if I have the choice, I would throw his ass in jail. He is pissing me off."

Vincent and Jason chatted while drinking cold beers. Some would say that they are being lazy in the work hours but they were just doing the job.

Since the government didn’t want to raise the awareness that they were planning on taking the drug lord, the information of their case was closed off.

Only three people knew about this in the entire Homicide Division. The Captain. The lead detective, Jason and his partner, Vincent.

Vincent checked the watch and noted that the wait time was getting closer.

He then glanced at the empty beer bottles scattered around them and smiled. His senior partner could really drink well.

As for Vincent, he was always a heavy drinker. And with his new unlimited energy, he could work his liver to the max limit. If he concentrates into the liver, the effect of intoxication calms down quickly.

Another way of using the useless power.

"Sir, the time is getting close. We should hide in the corner and wait for him to catch." Vincent said, tapping Jason who just put his head against the table.

He looked up, her face flushed with red. "Good idea."

The two stood up and turned around.

Vincent heard footsteps coming from the door. His eyes met with the new customer of the bar. The man was thin and his eyes were sharp like a hawk. Slanted eyes.

As soon as the two men connected the eyes, the movement changed.

It all happened too fast.

The jackal had barely stepped into the bar when his eyes met Jason and all the sudden, he was outside.

His legs moved like someone just put an engine on.

Jason sprung into action. He had no time to alter Vincent whose attention was fixed on processing the situation.

In a split of the second, he was outside chasing Jackal.

Jason was fast despite his heavier, muscular frame, but Jackal was skinnier, lighter and moved with the agility of a rat. Jason decided to try the friendly approach first.

"Jackal, I just wanna talk to you, slow down for fuck’s sake."

Jackal paid no attention of Jason’s call and in a semi-suicidal move crosse the street, disregarding the traffic.

Jason followed him, but his run was slowed down by the street crowd and the constant people swerving.

Twice he had to perform a quick and awkward left-right-left dance to avoid bumping into street punters.

Jason was breathing down his neck, but again he had to zigzag around pedestrians and an uneven piece of sidewalk caused him to take a false step.

He felt his left foot twist at the ankle. A sharp pain shot from it quickly consuming his entire leg. His run faded into an awkward hop.

"Shit." He yelled as he watched Jackal disappear into the distance.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Jason saw a figure come past him with incredible speed.

Vincent was moving like an Olympic champion.

With just a few steps he had left Jason behind and was fast gaining ground on Jackal who had turned right into a small alleyway next to a large warehouse.

Jason limped his way after them.

Up ahead, it didn’t take long for Vincent to be within an arm’s length of the tall skinny man.

He reached out and grabbed him by his jacket’s collar.

"Fine. Fine. I give up." Jackal said, slowing down and putting both of his hands up in the air but it was too late.

Vincent spun him around and threw him against the wall, twisting his right hand behind his back.

Jackal screamed in pain.

"Running away from the armed detectives? Have you been this stupid or is this a new virus?" Vincent asked, cooling down his breath.

"Let go of me, I have done nothing wrong."

It took Jason about thirty seconds to reach them.

"Are you okay?" Vincent asked, looking at Jason’s leg.

"I am fine. Twisted my ankle back there." freewebnøvel.com

"Let go of my arm."

"Shut the hell up." Vincent slammed Jackal’s body against the wall once again.

Jason turned to Jackal. "What the hell were you doing? What’s with all this running stuff?"

"Force of habit, big dog. What is this all about? Let go of me, man." Jackal twisted his body, trying to escape Vincent’s grip.

Jason gave Vincent a nod who let go of Jackal.

"You can’t do that man. I am an upstanding citizen now." Jackal said, massaging his right wrist with his left hand and stepping away from the wall.

"Do we look like police to you? Man, you are as dumb as you look." Vincent rolled his eyes.

"Upstanding citizen? You? Last time I checked prostitution and drug trafficking was still illegal in this city. We can take your ass straight to prison now." Jason said, pushing Jackal back to the wall.

"Enough with the wall slamming. I am not a madam." Jackal protested.

"If my ankle swell, so will your face." Jason threatened.

"Ain’t my fault, big dog."

"Of course, it is your fault, Big Dog. If I don’t have to chase you like a fucking cat I wouldn’t have twisted my foot."

"Why are you chasing me? I didn’t do nothing."

"Exactly, we just wanna ask you some questions."

"Why don’t you say so in the first place?"

Vincent sighed. Jason dragged the collar. "Come on, let’s chat somewhere private."

"Fuck no."

The slap to the head came from Vincent, throwing Jackal’s head forward with a loud thud.

"You wanna be smartass? Man, I am really starting to dislike you."

"Hey, big dog? This is police brutality. I can press charges you know?"

This time the slap to the back of the head came from Jason. "Does this look like play time to you? Come. Move you skinny ass."

The three men walked away, ignoring the attention they brought upon.

Jackal walked in front of them.

"Good job, rookie. I don’t think you will play a bad cop role."

"I am not roleplaying, sir." Vincent joked. "I didn’t like his gut at all."

"Good to see you adapting well." Jason patted him in the back.

They slowly walked back to the Benny’s bar and asked for a private room.

They entered inside. Jackal ordered the shot and swallowed it whole in one swing.

He then clicked his tongue in satisfaction.

"So what do you guys wanna ask? Woman? Or drug?"

"Both." Jason replied, taking out the cigarette from his pocket. He gave one to Vincent but he declined the offer.

"Tell me more." Jackal asked.

"Not yet, the day is bright. Let’s chat about your life for now." Jason said, laying back on the sofa.

"Curse my luck. I am just here to have a good time with lady. Now, I am here with guys coming up to my ass." Jackal complained.
