Chapter 301: Chapter 301: The System’s Death Warning
Yue Yue felt like the world was spinning. Zergs? Parasites? She thought about those Zergs and felt a wave of nausea.
That bitch Lin En has really gone so far; she could be the only one who would use the most disgusting methods possible.
Suddenly, a loud red notification flashed in front of Yue Yue’s eyes, sent by her own system.
[URGENT MISSION: Save the Second Husband, Xing Luoguang!]
[WARNING: The ’Villain Bond’ is absolute. If any one of the five husbands dies, the Host (Yue Yue) will be immediately terminated. Time remaining before brain death: 30 minutes.]
Yue Yue’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. She wasn’t just fighting for her husbands anymore; she was fighting for her own life. If Luoguang’s brain was eaten by those germs, she would die right here on the marble floor.
I have to save him, she thought, her fear turning into desperate, frantic courage. I don’t care about the fight. I don’t care about the mansion. I have to get those things out of his head!
She looked at Han Soi, who was busy trading blows with Shao Han. She looked at the Phoenix, who was still struggling against the black metal shackles.
I am such a fool! Yue Yue screamed in her heart. She had felt hurt by his coldness, but she hadn’t realized he was suffering in a way worse than death.
A beastman would rather rip out his own heart than betray his mate. For Luoguang to stand by Lin En’s side, he must be enduring mental torture beyond imagination.
Ignoring the stinging pain in her neck and the exhaustion in her limbs, Yue Yue lifted her blood stained skirt and ran. She didn’t care about the fire or the flying debris. She ran straight toward him, who was still struggling outside the mansion.
"Luoguang! Xing Luoguang!"
The man winced as she approached. When she reached out to touch his arm, he jerked back violently, as if her touch were a high voltage electric shock. His face twisted into a mask of agony. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Stay... back..." he gasped, his voice sounding like grinding stones.
Yue Yue didn’t listen. She threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his waist to keep him from retreating. She activated her S+++ rank green energy, her palms glowing with a bright green light.
"I’m going to save you!" she cried. She tried to project her consciousness into his Spiritual Sea, hoping to find and kill the Zergs.
But the moment she touched his mental barrier, she was hit by a massive wall of resistance. It was a dark, slimy, and chaotic force.
The Zerg parasites had turned his once majestic spiritual sea into a swamp of filth. She pushed and pushed, but she couldn’t break through.
"Yue... Yue..."
A broken, ragged whisper came from above her. She looked up and saw that Luoguang’s eyes had momentarily cleared. The hollow blackness was replaced by a look of devastating sorrow.
"I am... sorry," he whispered, a single tear slipping down his scarred cheek. "I betrayed you. I failed my duties as your husband. I let her... I let her in."
"Don’t say that!" Yue Yue sobbed, her green energy flaring even brighter. "It’s not your fault! It’s that female Lin En! Just hold on, everything will be fine. I will heal you!"
Xing Luoguang looked at her with a gaze full of tragic love. He could feel the parasites eating the last of his sanity. He knew his spiritual sea was shattered beyond repair. He was a dying man.
"Don’t... waste your powers on me," he said, his hand trembling as he reached out to brush a stray hair from her face. "I am hopeless. But I can still do one last thing for you."
He knew his time was up. He knew the "system" Lin En held was a cancer that would continue to hurt Yue Yue as long as she was alive.
Even in his dying moments, his only thought wasn’t his own pain... it was her safety. He could accept dying, but he could never accept leaving Yue Yue in the hands of that monster.
He squeezed Yue Yue’s fingers one last time, his grip surprisingly strong.
"Yue, I am sorry. Remember... I love you."
Before Yue Yue could respond, a sudden violent aura exploded from his body. In a flash of dark shadow, he disappeared from her arms.
"LUOGUANG!"
Suddenly, a blood curdling scream ripped through the mansion. It was Lin En. The sound was so high pitched and full of horror that it felt like needles being driven into everyone’s ears.
Yue Yue immediately covered her ears, her eyes shut tight in pain.
When the screaming finally subsided into a low echoing sob, Yue Yue scrambled to her feet and ran toward the source of the noise.
She arrived at the center of the hall, where the "Male Leads" and "Villains" had stopped fighting. Everyone was stunned, staring at the empty space where Lin En had been standing just seconds ago.
Cang Yuze walked over to Yue Yue, his expression grim and his clothes torn from the battle. He placed a steadying hand on her shoulder.
"What happened?" Yue Yue gasped, looking around frantically. "Where is he? Where is Lin En?"
Cang Yuze looked at the hole in the distance, his voice low and heavy. "Xing Luoguang... he snapped. He grabbed Lin En and used a forbidden space jump. He has taken her away from here."
Yue Yue’s heart plummeted. She looked at the blood on her hands, Luoguang’s blood. He had used the last of his life force to drag the "Heroine" into the abyss with him.
"No..." she whispered, falling to her knees. "He went to die with her... he did it to protect me."
How could he do it? No, no... she wouldn’t allow him... she has to save him not only for the mission but because he was her husband.
She would never allow anyone to harm her family.
