Chapter 110: Chapter 110: The Most Embarrassing Moment

The air grew cold, but the Phoenix didn’t stop until they were deep within a dark, ancient forest far away from the civilization of the Temple.

With a sudden dive, the Phoenix descended into a clearing surrounded by giant, glowing trees. It landed heavily, its massive silver claws finally releasing Yue Yue onto a bed of soft moss.

Yue Yue scrambled to her feet, her breath coming in short gasps. She looked up at the towering bird.

The Phoenix’s feathers were no longer pure silver; they were stained with a sickly dark red light that pulsed like a heartbeat. Its eyes were vacant, filled with nothing but wild, animalistic hunger and pain.

"Feng Yanshen! Stop this! Look at me!" Yue Yue cried out, her voice trembling. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

She tried to step closer, her hands outstretched. She didn’t care about the danger; she just wanted to bring the man back.

She activated her S+++ spiritual energy, sending out a wave of warm, pink light toward the giant bird. She hoped that her healing touch would calm the storm inside him just like it had for Han Soi.

But the moment her energy touched the Phoenix, it was swallowed up instantly. It didn’t even make a dent. It was like throwing a single drop of water into a boiling ocean.

The Phoenix let out a sharp, discordant shriek and flapped its wings, the wind force nearly knocking Yue Yue over. It didn’t recognize her at all.

To the Phoenix, she was just something precious it had captured and needed to keep.

"System! What’s happening? Why isn’t my power working?" Yue Yue screamed in her mind.

The System’s voice responded immediately, sounding more urgent than usual.

[Warning: Target Feng Yanshen is experiencing a Total Spiritual Sea Collapse. His pollution levels have reached 98%. He is only a single step away from becoming a permanent Degenerate Beast.]

Yue Yue’s heart sank. 98 percent? That meant there was almost no human rationality left in him. He was acting purely on the instincts of a crazed animal.

"How do I fix it? I can’t let him turn!" she pleaded.

[Host, his spiritual sea is too vast and too damaged for a standard external broadcast. To save him, you must establish a direct physical and spiritual link. You are the only one who can pull him back from the edge, but at this level of pollution, the Target may become aggressive.]

Yue Yue looked at the Phoenix. It was currently pacing around her, its sharp beak snapping at the air. It was building a "nest" out of the broken trees around them, trapping her inside the clearing. It looked at her with a possessive, terrifying gaze.

She realized that the calm, composed High Priest was gone. In his place was a monster that was hurting and scared. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her shaking hands. She had to get close enough to touch him, even if it meant putting herself right under those deadly claws.

"Feng Yanshen," she whispered, her voice soft and full of pity. "I’m right here. Please, come back to me."

The Phoenix paused, its head tilting to the side as if a tiny part of its soul heard her voice, but then it let out another roar, and the red light around its body grew even brighter.

After the giant White Phoenix finished tearing up trees and building a massive, messy nest in the middle of the clearing, it finally stopped its wild shrieking.

Yue Yue watched with wide eyes, wondering what this beautiful, crazy bird was going to do next.

Suddenly, the Phoenix climbed down into the nest. Before Yue Yue could even move, the bird used its head to push her right into the center of the pile of branches and moss.

Then, without any warning, the massive bird sat down.

It didn’t just sit next to her...it sat directly on top of her.

"What the... hmph!" Yue Yue’s words were cut off as she was buried under a mountain of thick, silver-white feathers.

She was completely stunned. She felt like she was being crushed by a giant, fluffy pillow that weighed a thousand pounds. She was almost suffocating as the Phoenix’s warm, heavy body pressed her down into the nest.

She tried to wiggle out, but the bird just shifted its weight and let out a satisfied, low trill, tucking its wings tighter around her.

"Let go! You bastard! Get off me!" Yue Yue struggled, her muffled voice coming from deep beneath the feathers.

She was so annoyed that she completely forgot this bird was actually the most powerful and holy High Priest in the empire. To her, he was just a very large, very heavy bird that was currently using her as a mattress.

She kicked and pushed, but it was useless. The Phoenix was like a giant, warm boulder. It seemed to think she was an egg that needed to be kept warm.

"System!" she screamed in her head. "What is he doing? Is he trying to incubate me? Does he think I’m his baby or something?"

Suddenly, she heard the System make a sound that sounded suspiciously like a dry cough.

[Ahem. Host...] the System began, sounding a bit awkward. [Based on the behavioral patterns of the Phoenix clan during spiritual collapse, he is not trying to incubate you.] fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Then what is he doing?" Yue Yue snapped, spitting a silver feather out of her mouth.

[According to my data, the Target is currently in his ’primitive mating state,’] the System explained.

[Because his pollution is so high, his human rationality is gone. His beast side has taken over, and it has decided that the only way to stabilize his energy and ’mark’ you as his own is to... well, mate with you.]

Yue Yue went completely blank. Her brain stopped working for a few seconds.

"Mate?" she whispered, her face turning a bright, explosive red. "But he’s a bird! He’s a giant bird right now! How is that even supposed to work?"

She looked up through the gaps in the feathers and saw the Phoenix’s head arching over her.

It was looking down with a very focused, very intense gaze that was definitely not the look of a parent bird. It let out a soft, deep rumble in its chest that made her whole body vibrate.

Yue Yue lay trapped under the heavy weight of the silver feathers, her face flushed with heat. She felt like crying from the sheer embarrassment of the situation.

How is this even supposed to work? she thought hysterically. He was a giant, legendary bird, and she was a tiny human girl.

She wanted to give him a serious reality check. Did she look like a bird to him? Did he really think this "mating" attempt was going to be successful just because he was sitting on her like a giant cushion? It was the most ridiculous and embarrassing thing she had ever experienced.

She thought about shifting into her small white snake form to wiggle out, but she immediately shot that idea down.

If I turn into a snake right now, his bird brain might stop thinking about mating and start thinking about dinner! she realized with a shudder. To a Phoenix, a snake was a snack, not a mate.
