Chapter 182: Above my Rank?
Seth landed before their apartment with a gentle grace that barely ruffled the carpet of grass on the lawn.
He was in high spirits, a small smile tugging on his lips, his eyes carrying a renewed light of vigor.
As brief as his interaction with Kylie was, it was enough to stir his heart and build anticipation for the next time they met.
Honestly, if he could, he would have loved to spend more time with her — time together that would surely cultivate the relationship he envisioned. freewebnσvel.cøm
But sadly, with the state of things, sorting his personal relationships and life was the least of his priorities.
Kylie understood this. It wasn’t like she herself was ordinary either.
She also had her role to play in the big scheme of things, a role just as — if not more — important than Seth’s.
With her specialty and exaggerated talent, she would most likely be the one to carry the advancement of humanity’s technological progression on her back.
It was only natural these two geniuses understood that their duties wouldn’t give them much reign to be two normal teenagers in love as it should be.
Maybe this was the very factor that caused their fates to collide in the first place.
Pressing down on the doorknob, Seth stepped into their abode.
Only to be ambushed from the side, a hand wrapping around his neck as Brandon cocked a nosy grin.
"Tsk tsk! Big Bro, I didn’t know you had such game." He chuckled.
Seth’s eyes rolled in their sockets as he continued walking, dragging Brandon along.
Waving his other hand in the air, Brandon mimicked Seth’s voice with an overly high-pitched tone, "Wait for me, I’ll come back for you!"
"God, Big Bro, your words made even my heart flutter."
His words provoked chokes and snickers of suppressed laughter.
Seth’s lips twitched as his friends hid their faces, their shoulders trembling from stifled laughter.
His cheeks went rosy. He flung Brandon’s hands away from his shoulder with a gruff snort.
Brandon staggered backward, his face twisted in feigned hurt. He clutched his chest. "Ah! Big Bro’s heart is taken by another. Now there’s no more room for me?"
His words provoked even more reaction, as the stifled laughs couldn’t be reined in any longer.
Brandon palmed his face, his head reeling back. "If only I had so much charm. Three days, just three days, and Big Bro bagged himself a beauty. Sigh, the disparity."
Seth didn’t dare waste time rushing upstairs. This guy would only get bolder with his teasing if he gave him the chance.
As he scaled the stairs, an eruption of laughter quaked behind him.
From the taciturn Jack to the frosty Elaine, heck, even the one perceived to be the most mature among them all — Uriel — all of them were teary-eyed, choking from laughter as Brandon continued.
Tsk tsk tsk. Seth could have sworn this guy was better than this.
With a dark expression, he imprinted this memory to heart. As much as they teased him today, he would return it a thousandfold.
Grinding his teeth, his face flushed from embarrassment, he reached his room, locking out the cacophony of laughter behind him.
He sighed, a smile returning to his lips. As annoying as they acted just now, it proved something important.
Everyone had truly bonded. No more guards. They could all finally be their true selves before each other.
It took quite a while, but they still got here eventually. Now they all saw each other beyond comrades of battle — as friends.
Seth collapsed backward onto his king-sized bed, hands clasped behind his head as he stared at the ceiling.
So far, things were going at such a fast pace, and he couldn’t say that he disliked it.
From encountering Kylie to the construction of his genetic battle suit to their clash with the Bloodbornes — who would believe all that happened within a span of around five days?
Compared to his lackluster life of the past, he couldn’t complain. This was the adrenaline-packed life he had always yearned for deep in his heart.
He stretched an arm to the ceiling, his eyes glowing. ’But this is just my Genesis!’ he affirmed mentally.
He sat up, summoning the Oracle Crystal. Emerald lights bled into reality as the crystal orb appeared, levitating right before him.
The crystal reflected in his irises as he quickly asked the question he had been holding onto.
"What is a profession?"
Lights pulsed from the orb as it processed a response.
[Profession, very little information is held about it within designated Tier...]
Seth’s brows raised, his eyes flashed. This only showed how valuable this new slot he awakened was.
For the Oracle to say this wasn’t within its tier meant the information was way above Awakened rank privilege of Tier 2 it currently held.
"Tell me what you know about it!"
The orb wasted no time.
[Profession is similar to class yet still bears stark differences with it...]
[While class is a chosen path that can be threaded to power, Profession is tied to the core of a being’s power and identity...]
[Profession isn’t meant to be available for Awakened rank beings, so host shouldn’t be bothered about it...]
Seth’s gaze narrowed. Not only was the Oracle’s description too vague and brief, it went ahead to state he wasn’t meant to be able to access a profession at his current rank?
But it was sitting in his status right now. How could one explain that?
This was the first time Seth was actually hitting the barrier of the Oracle’s information tier.
Thinking for a bit, he attempted another question. "How can I gain a profession?"
The Oracle flashed, processing a quick reply...
[There are currently various requirements to be able to gain a profession. That is known, but the specifics are beyond tier privilege!]
[The only information currently available on the required subject is that one first has to undergo the third evolution of life before awakening a slot...]
Seth’s eyes widened. The fuck?
Third evolution of life? The Oracle was right — he really had no business attempting to awaken one then.
"But it doesn’t make sense. How did I awaken this slot then? And why?" he muttered to himself, his eyes flashing with confusion.
