Chapter 181: I Will Be Back
Seth staggered forward, face pale, feeling dizzy, his vitality quite low.
His four friends following behind did their best to suppress their amusement as they watched his unsteady gait.
Seth had been properly drained of a few liters of blood by Kylie, leaving her with a content expression as she hoarded the blood packs away like they were priceless treasures.
Though hesitant, Jack, Uriel, and Elaine approached her after she was done, in order to request her help in crafting them genetic battle suits as well.
Naturally, they were ready to pay the price if possible. After all, losing a few liters of blood couldn’t be that bad, right?
But to their utmost surprise, Kylie only took one glance at them before waving their offer away, agreeing to do it for free!
Only for Seth to interrogate her, and she merely said his blood was so valuable she didn’t need anyone else’s.
Unable to know whether to take this as a compliment or as a loss, Seth and his team set out to leave the facility.
Which led to the current scene now...
The five reached the broad reception hall of the facility, swarming with both military and government agents at this point.
On their way towards the motion detector slide-glass exits, they were stopped — not by the military but by civil workers, who handed Brandon and Seth sheets on which they were required to put down their detailed reports.
The moment the higher-ups had heard that Seth was involved in the cause of the phenomenon, they were instantly less worried and less curious.
Assured, they had sent orders for the military soldiers to return, since there wasn’t any threat to deal with as they initially assumed.
And this filing Seth and Brandon were going through was merely protocol.
In truth, no one asked him about anything or forced him to give account for the genetic battle suit. Heck, the officials didn’t even bring it up.
This attitude from the government solidified Seth’s conjecture that the ones truly against the existence of him and his friends — or to be more exact, against the level of power and influence his team was beginning to wield — were from the military.
So after putting down statements, the crew were cleared to leave...
The massive double-glass exit of the facility slid open on detecting incoming movement, and the moment Seth stepped out he let the wind wash against his face, which was already quite ruddy.
His title World Saint kicking in, his vitality was already surging, the lost blood already recovered and more even.
"So to be clear, we will still be going tomorrow?" Seth asked, as his teammates trailing behind walked out of the facility.
They all nodded, Brandon aside. "I just hope we won’t find foes in ambush," Uriel muttered.
Elaine shook her head. "It’s been about two weeks now. There’s no way they’ll wait for that long. I doubt aliens are that petty."
Thinking about the foes they had encountered last in the origin realm — the ones that sent them fleeing — Seth’s heart skipped a beat.
He didn’t know why his instincts always flared the moment he thought of those guys.
He remembered their eyes, especially that particular figure that never acted but gave him chills just from being there.
He had stared at Seth and the others, his eyes carrying a familiar glint — one similar to the exciting flicker Seth had in his eyes when he saw loot.
He frowned, his brows furrowing. ’There’s a whole other verse in that realm. We will have to be more cautious till we have a base understanding of everything.’
Thoughts aside, that wouldn’t stop him from going. That was a whole other dimension filled with immense opportunity and resources. Seth couldn’t possibly pass that up.
Plus there was the fact that they really needed a class.
Like the Oracle Crystal once said, an Awakened Rank being isn’t fully one till he has a class.
That was the true dividing factor from Shackled realm beings to Awakened elites.
The five got ready to set off. Taking a ride home, though possible, would take time, and after tasting the efficiency of flight, they found this means of transportation more appropriate.
And just as they were about to take off...
"Seth, wait!" A familiar voice called — one that almost instantly caused Seth’s heart to race.
He turned around, and indeed there she was, panting and huffing. Kylie had definitely run to catch up with them.
Her vermilion hair still tied in a messy bun, she tucked a few stray strands behind her ears as she let out a puff of misty breaths, her face flushed.
Her eyes flashed with complicated lights as she stared at Seth.
Immediately she had his blood, she thought she had what she needed. With her boundless curiosity bubbling, she got ready to begin her research right away as Seth and his friends left.
But as she prepped a new space she would be managing till her workshop got back into commission, she felt hollow. freēwebnovel.com
Unable to concentrate on the work before her, she felt...
Like something was missing. A deep yearning remained, one that she had forced herself to believe stemmed from curiosity.
She thought all her interest in that man stemmed from his uniqueness, her curiosity to figure out what made him... him.
But she was wrong... she was so used to objectifying everyone in her life, she didn’t realize it.
She didn’t even know what she felt as of this moment.
She ran here, as her instincts drove her to come see him before he left. But now she was here, all these complicated emotions bubbling, and she didn’t know what to say.
She didn’t know the right words to say to him. She knew if she didn’t do something, their relationship would take a route of plain professionalism.
And somehow she found herself adverse to this.
She didn’t know why, but...
She wanted to see more of him, know more of him, be by his side.
This was a side of her that still remained quite alien to her — one that meeting him seemed to surface.
On Seth’s end, seeing her, a smile broke on his lips.
Seth wasn’t a fool to deny his emotions. He wasn’t dense enough to be blind to this.
Never in his life did he expect to meet his first love interest in this way.
A girl he barely knew for three days, and he already found himself deep in irredeemable attraction.
And now that she made a move, that was all he needed.
He walked forward, holding the same complex lights behind his gaze.
His teammates seemed to sense the beat of the atmosphere and tactically flew away without him, giving their friend the private moment he needed.
In the skies, Elaine gave the research factory a second glance, her frosty blue pupils honing on Seth and Kylie.
Involuntarily, she glanced at Brandon’s back, her eyes flashed...
Back on the ground, the two now stood face to face. No words were spoken, but somehow a conversation was made.
Seth reached for her hands. He stared at her seriously. He was new to this.
But he knew if they wanted to progress, if they wanted to peel this thin layer of unfamiliarity between the both of them, he needed time and care.
So despite having a lot to say, he narrowed it to a few words. "Wait for me. I will come back for you!"
Kylie’s eyes dilated, a sense of elation filling her heart. She always knew he was going to be back. freewebnøvel.com
She always knew she would see him again surely, but this promise... it felt more personal.
He wasn’t coming back because of a job that needed to be done. He wouldn’t be coming back because of something he wanted.
He would be coming back for her...
She didn’t know why she ran all the way here, but hearing these words she knew this was what she wanted.
Her gaze softened. "Mmn," she nodded softly as Seth released his grasp over hers.
Walking backwards, still facing her, he flew away, a gust of wind brushing over her, loosening her hair to billow beautifully in the wind.
She stared at his disappearing silhouette. ’So this is what butterflies in the stomach feel like,’ she thought.
