Chapter 180: Reunion

Across from Seth, hurrying down the hallway, was naturally the worried trio.

Uriel, Jack, and Elaine...

And seeing the haggard silhouettes of their teammates, they were taken aback.

What could possibly have left these two in such a state?

Hurrying forward, they wasted no time bombarding the duo with questions, completely missing the fact that there were two others accompanying their teammates.

Seth left the narration to Brandon while he slipped away with Kylie, who led him to a place where he could find some clean clothes to change into.

Meanwhile, Elder Ron took initiative to lead them to his personal workshop. To the scientists within the facility, their workshops and labs were their homes, so naturally he had nowhere else hospitable to hold the visitors.

Kylie led Seth to the male staff cloakroom. There he could find spare clothes and even take a shower if he wanted to.

Time flowed like water as minutes passed by as Brandon took his sweet time narrating while savoring his friends’ shocked expressions with a smug smile.

One might assume he was speaking of his own feats.

"That’s enough, go change," Seth said, letting out an exasperated sigh, throwing a pair of clothes onto Brandon’s face.

Brandon didn’t argue and left right away to go change...

Collapsing onto a comfy recliner, Seth let out a deep sigh as his muscles stretched, his damp hair sprawling across his shoulders.

Uriel stared his way...

"What?" Seth asked, opening a single eye to meet the stare.

Brooding for a minute, Uriel spoke. "The military... something’s changed."

Seth chuckled dryly, recalling his interaction with the rude major. He scoffed.

"Nothing’s changed... it’s just that we met a hard-headed brute who can barely hide his malice."

His friends glanced among themselves, immediately understanding Seth’s words.

Elder Ron, who was listening, couldn’t help but butt in, asking, "What do you mean? Last I saw you with the president, I was under the impression that you had the whole government and military behind you guys."

Seth coughed again, sitting up. He slanted his head a little sideways, reaching for his neck to knead his dull, aching muscles. He replied, "That’s only on paper. I doubt there are too many people pleased with the fact that a bunch of teenagers hold so much power."

Uriel nodded. "Exactly. We hold too much leverage in our relationship with the government. They literally have nothing on us. It’s bound to make some people... uncomfortable."

"Especially since they’re used to being the ones on top," Elaine added.

Jack, leaning on a nearby wall with eyes closed, chimed in also. "And it doesn’t help that three among us come from private colossal powers that might one day pose a threat to the hegemony of the government."

They didn’t need to explain further. Elder Ron had already caught on. He might pride himself on being a humble scholar, but he wasn’t ignorant about politics.

He could also see the underlying problem, but still he frowned. "But the president..."

Seth stared his way. "The president’s opinion doesn’t account for that of his subordinates. They will still act in accord with their beliefs... even if it points to us being a threat."

Elder Ron still argued. "But they’ll risk antagonizing you all. Is it a risk worth taking?"

Seth shook his head. "Hence why they are more careful. They tread so lightly. If it wasn’t for our encounter with that dull-headed brute, I’m sure we wouldn’t have seen their trails..."

His words provoked silence, everyone silently thinking more on the matter.

After a few more seconds of silence, Seth shrugged. "It’s nothing to worry about though. At this point, there’s hardly anything they can do to us. They are the least of the problems we are currently facing." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Everyone nodded. They had to agree. With the Earth already in its finishing stages of its planetary upgrade, very soon the myriad races of Earth would mobilize their forces against the humans.

Plus there were also corruption zones. Though they seemed pretty harmless now, those things were silent ticking bombs that would only show their true threat level once the upgrade was finished.

Suddenly Seth felt burning gazes trained upon him. He raised a brow, spinning the recliner to face his friends’ stare. "What is it?"

The silence still held for a few more seconds. Seeing the guys were slow in speaking, Elaine spoke out.

"About the genetic battle suits..."

Seth gave a knowing smile. "I already got you guys. Once Kylie is back, drop blood samples for her and she’ll work on drafting the primal patterns. Before we are back from the origin realm, she should be done."

His words brought light to the eyes of his friends. With Brandon and Seth having genetic battle suits, it was only natural they would be tempted to own one.

Even Jack, who wasn’t a big fan of weapons, found himself more fond of them lately. He was naturally curious about how much these armaments would improve his prowess.

The door slid open. Everyone instinctively turned, expecting to see Brandon, but it was Kylie.

Her hair was tied into a messy bun, a strange light of excitement brimming in her eyes as her fair hand pushed forth, carting in a series of medical instruments.

Seth’s eyes lingered on the stack of empty blood packs on the bottom cart, a feeling of foreboding setting in.

Kylie’s stunning features were lit with an even more beautiful smile as she stared in Seth’s direction. "It’s time for the payment we discussed."

Seth’s lips twitched. "But you wouldn’t be able to break my skin though."

He said it half informing her, half comforting himself.

Pulling out a needle-strapped tube, Kylie’s smile drew wider. "Trust me, as long as you don’t consciously resist, I will be able to."

"This!" She gestured, pulling out a luminescent serum from the tray. "Was fashioned from the drop of blood you gave me. Once applied on your skin, it will do well in softening the organic tissue by making your cells lax and tender enough for me to penetrate it."

Seth’s expression went stiff...

"You called me a genius, remember?" Kylie said as she got closer.

His expression turned ugly...

Unknown when Brandon had arrived, but his voice rang.

"You can do it, big bro. I bet your pain tolerance will be off the roof," he cheered.

Kylie nodded. "I’m banking on that, because this... this will sting a bit."
