Chapter 97: A Brand New Day For The Base
So, the military took three full days to solve the zombie outbreak caused by the Cataclysm Brotherhood. Fortunately, Theodore heard the news that Victor had not killed the man who had masterminded this problem.
Today, the base was announced to have stabilized, and the residents hiding in their homes could come out now. The military headquarters also said they had provided food in the canteen for the people. freewebnovel.cσ๓
Considering that it had been three days since people had worked or received food aid from the military, many people were naturally very relieved to be able to come out.
Since trouble broke out in the North Gate area, many people who lived there escaped and fled to other locations, losing their belongings and food supplies.
This also became a new problem for the base; indeed, it would be very difficult for the base to build a decent life for all its residents.
Theodore knows very well how hard it is to live in this apocalyptic world. Even in his previous life, he had to suffer because he had no supplies. Fortunately, this time, Theodore did not repeat his mistake.
The situation was safe for them to go out, so Theodore invited Geoffrey to go out. Theodore knew that Geoffrey must be apprehensive about his sister’s condition.
Meanwhile, Theodore intended to find Victor and ask about the current state of the base, asking if there was anything he could do.
The problem was that for the past three days, Theodore had only been busy harvesting vegetables and fruits that he had planted in the sacred dimension. So Theodore was quite bored and intended to do something to occupy himself.
"Geoffrey, hurry up. Don’t you want to meet your sister?" Theodore, already inside Geoffrey’s apartment, could only wait for him, who was busy himself.
"Wait a minute, brother Theo!" Geoffrey shouted from a distance so Theodore could hear his voice.
Theodore rolled his eyes lazily, then sat on the sofa in the apartment’s living room to wait for Geoffrey.
"Well, I’m ready, let’s go!" Geoffrey came out of the room carrying a backpack full of stuff.
Having traveled extensively with Geoffrey, Theodore knew that he rarely carried a backpack, let alone one full of stuff like this one.
"Why are you carrying so much stuff like that?" Theodore looked at Geoffrey with apparent confusion on his face.
"Just in case my sister can go home today, I brought a change of clothes for him. It’s almost winter, so I bought a thick jacket for her!" Geoffrey was very excited as he explained what he had brought to Theodore.
Quite surprised at how much Geoffrey cared for Roxanne, Theodore blinked his eyes several times.
"Then let’s go now," Theodore invited them.
The two of them immediately rushed down from the floor of their apartment to the ground-floor lobby. As Theodore had expected, the staircase they were using was very crowded at the moment because everyone was intending to go out as well.
Theodore was sure that their destination was the same: the military headquarters. But, their purpose was to take their meal rations at the military headquarters canteen while Theodore was running to the headquarters to look for a job.
"It’s so crowded. People must be looking forward to going out after being cooped up inside for three days," Geoffrey said in amazement when he saw that the stairs they were walking on were very crowded.
Usually, only a few people used the stairs. Theodore had expected this, so he wasn’t too surprised.
Something that impressed Theodore with Geoffrey was his good social skills. Theodore didn’t even know the people who lived in his apartment building other than Geoffrey and Cassian’s group, who had just moved in.
Geoffrey seemed to already know some of the people living in their apartment building. For example, right now, Theodore could see Geoffrey chatting with several people walking in front and behind them.
"Where are you guys going out?" Geoffrey asked one of the people walking in front of them.
"To the military base, of course. You know we’ve only eaten instant noodles for three days."
"I’m the same way. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a decent meal."
Several people complained about the food they had consumed during the three days they had been confined to the house.
"You guys didn’t have any food supplies before?" Theodore replied when he heard the people’s words.
"Little did we know that the world would turn out like this. They would have run out after three months if we had food supplies." freewebnøvel.com
"You’re right, but most people don’t have food supplies anymore. I’m afraid the base can’t provide food for us anymore."
Hearing that person’s words, the other people who heard it agreed and hoped the base would still provide food for them.
As Geoffrey was just thinking about this, he realized that sooner or later, they would have to find their own food; he could only depend on the base sometimes.
Geoffrey tugged lightly on Theodore’s jacket. When Theodore turned to him, Geoffrey whispered, "If the base really can’t provide food for us anymore, that means we have to leave the base to look for food supplies, right?"
Theodore could see the fear in Geoffrey’s eyes as he asked him that. Theodore ruffled Geoffrey’s hair lightly. "Yes, you should prepare yourself to go outside the base; sooner or later, you will," Theodore replied.
Living in an apocalyptic world like this requires them to know the reality that hit their lives; Theodore would not hide this reality from Geoffrey.
Inevitably, Geoffrey had to know that their lives had changed, and he had to be able to do everything to survive in this harsh world.
It took them about half an hour to reach the military base, and when they got there, Theodore and Geoffrey immediately turned toward the clinic.
"It’s not just me who feels that there are more people here," Geoffrey said, surprised when he saw more patients inside the clinic.
"No wonder there must be many injured after what happened," Theodore replied as he glanced around.
The doctors and nurses in the clinic looked very busy and were going back and forth. Theodore even felt tired just looking at their busy lives.
Theodore and Geoffrey walked towards the room where Roxanne was being treated. However, they were surprised to see Roxanne coming out of the room when they got there.
"Why you’re here? Are you allowed to come out already?" Geoffrey asked worriedly when he saw Roxanne’s figure.
"Not yet, actually. But they need more space to treat the other victims," Roxanne explained with a grimace.
Geoffrey quickly removed a thick jacket from his backpack and draped it over Roxanne’s shoulders.
"If I knew that, I would have come here sooner. Then let’s go home." Geoffrey immediately took Roxanne to go home.
"I can’t come with you. I still have some business to take care of here. You guys can go home first," Theodore said when Geoffrey turned to him to take him home.
